Even if it is a sensible decision Sonya is making it out of pretty selfish reasons. Well, enitrely selfish, really. Instead of trying to improve whatever she has with Gary she just ends it. For better or worse for Gary and herself.

First she wanted Gary to do more than just grope her boobs - so he did.
Then she wanted Gary to do more than just grope her boobs and her butt - so he did.
And then she wanted him to be better at sex.... and dumped him before the obvious logical conclusion kicked in.

And it inevitably will, if the pattern holds - Gary is being taught how to be a perfect boyfriend, one lesson per girl per time.
Kiley got Gary used to hanging out with a girl without tripping over his tongue, Yuki got him used to the idea of being in a relationship, Sonya got him used to physical intimacy without his nose fountaining gore all over the place, but she couldn't leave it just long enough for the next stage; let's call it 'advanced technique', aka, pleasing a woman in bed.
Now the next girl in line (Amber? Didi? Senna?) will get to reap the benefit... And then won't YOU be jealous?

Average, or even most common, does not equal objective. If you polled a group on what they appreciate in the opposite sex and then produced a model based on the averages of these opinions, it is entirely possible that no one in the group is going to be happy with that model.

A test is called objective when every person who performs the same test (correctly) with the same conditions would come to the same conclusion every time. Since one of the variables that influence the test of hotness is personal taste, and personal taste is not the same in every tester, the test of hotness can never be objective.

You know, something that strike me as odd is how ineffective the swirly is on Sonya. I mean, take Gary's time with Kiley. Even though he was utterly disappointing, the swirly was apparently amazing enough to make her not only forget the first disappointment but be willing to give Gary another turn even though it was pretty apparent it would be just as one-sided. Yuki pretty much says that it is the best she's ever had and gets addicted to it. Amber is also willing to bend some morals in order to get another taste of it and what not. But while it seems good for Sonya, it doesn't seem to have the same mind bending effect.

I wonder if perhaps this is evidence that Sonya may actually be a lesbian and the discomfort of being around a guy cancels out the swirly effect. Or maybe it's just not really wanting Gary as a boyfriend (it's pretty much stated to be more of a revenge/make yuki jealous thing), or rather really wanting to be in a relationship with Zii, or maybe she's just crazy.

In any event, if we can use Kiley and Amber as a base, a reasonable minded woman enjoys the swirly and should be willing enough to put up with Gary's initial awkwardness in bed (provided there are regular swirly breaks to rock her world).

...of course, there just may be no reasonableness in the mà3 universe anyway.

I think we can agree that Sonja is physically attractive, by pretty much all of our standards. She is, however, stupid, narrow-sighted, selfish, spiteful and spoiled, and each is a massive turn off from even the hottest girl or boy in the world.

I genuinely don't think there are enough boobs in the world to 'pay off' such a repulsive personality, for me.

And Gary could've just said "well, only one way to get experience ifyannowaddaimean". That Sonya doesn't realize that -- or maybe she does, but doesn't offer herself as a candidate for the following reason -- and goes hopping off naked for some time with Zii is very telling. (I mean, the absent-mindedness during sex from before is at least relatively normal.)

Hm... Well, while, of course, a person who is... so much like Sonya would not be one you would want to have a relationship with, merely for the purpose of having sex - unless she wants to set your most vital areas on fire during making out - it doesn't really matter.
The thing is... yeah, she is selfish and all kinds of things but she isn't terrible to the person she "likes" (to loosely use that term). She seems to have been nice enough on various occasions and I guess during their dating marathon she can't have been that terrible to Gary and only scored with soft core make outs. So there are definitely much worse people in the world who would instantly seem unattractive where it really is more the fact that most of the things we do see from Sonya are her bad moments, over the last months.
Long story short: Yeah, Sonya isn't a nice person but she is not a puppy kicker and still able to function within a society.

Remember - Zii, who she stalks, and whose home she broke into, and whose bed she hijacked, and who ex-girlfriend/current friend she has been mercilessly trying to up-one, and whose relationship she has deliberately been trying to sabotage on the grounds that she wants to have Zii and that's all there is to it?

That's how she treats someone that she likes.
