Re: Minecraft Thread X: In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the ... SSSSSSSS
No more than Bronze/Iron armor does. You're thinking of Composite armor, I think.
Anyways, 1.4 is officially out.
The new Portal thing has been expected for a while, Coestar even mentioned this possibility when Portals were first introduced, and built a containment room specifically for his portals, on the off chance that a ghast would get through. Mystcraft linking books provide a viable alternative which doesn't risk this problem. In fact, you could probably use the Nether as your Nexus and get from one part of the Overworld to the other fairly quickly that way.
I'm liking the stair corners. It means i can make my roof look purdy without needing RP2 microblocks.
Mobs can now pick up gear and use it? So if they kill you, they can pick up your phat lewtz and use them on you? Umm... yea, that just boosted the danger level of a corpse recovery.
Cobblestone Walls are nice. Built in crenelations for your castle-esque builds, and arrow nooks to be built into walls as well.
Witches sound fairly scary, I'll probably be destroying any witch huts I run across, simply because of the potential danger these represent.
Creepers blowing up when they fall makes certain darkroom mobivators no longer viable.
More food options... pumpkin pie seems like a viable renewable food source to replace mushroom stew that can stack for one of the best non-meat renewable food sources in Vanilla.
Carrots now can be used to guide Pigs when riding. I guess this makes it easier to get the 'When Pigs Fly' achievement. If I want to do long-distance movement, though, I'll just make a rail.
Anvils are nice, but I generally use IC2 electrical tools because they don't break. Still nice for keeping that one UberEnchanted Tool going. Would probably be a LOT of use in the Super Hostile maps.
Oh, zombie villagers. Meh, I haven't done much with villagers, so I'm not sure how nifty this is.SpoilerQuite possibly, the best rebuttal I have ever witnessed.

Well, I updated without thinking, so I'll be stuck off the server for a little while. Which is good timing, since I need to work on school stuff for a little while anyway.
And yes, I know, I can downgrade my copy. I just don't want to go through the effort when I won't be playing that often anyway.LGBTA+itP

Re: Minecraft Thread X: In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the ... SSSSSSSS
My suit of Nano Armor speaks otherwise, as I have personally experienced zero damage from zombie hits, skeleton arrows, and creeper blasts.
Quantum armor negates hunger damage and (I think) fall damage, but both Nano Armor and Quantum Armor negate "conventional" damage entirely.

Re: Minecraft Thread X: In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the ... SSSSSSSS
I have never experienced this with my nano armor. Perhaps you were not at 'ground zero', and/or were blocking with your sword? I've seen Vechs on his Super hostile maps eat four creepers at point blank range just because he was blocking.
Also, here is the link to the wiki.
Nano armor is just iron/bronze that recharges. Quantum armor has different benefits, depending on which slot. The quantum helm negates hunger and allows water breathing. Quantum armor negates conventional damage entirely. Quantum legs give you dash. Quantum boots give you high jump and take no damage on a fall.SpoilerQuite possibly, the best rebuttal I have ever witnessed.

Not really. First off, it's not Redpower, it's IndustricalCraft2. Second, the amount of resources you have to sink in to get one is tremendous. Third, it's only the chest plate which does that, and it can absorb a certain number of hits before it has to be recharged.
Personally, I never bother, because the chest slot is also where the Lappack goes, which keeps my drill and chainsaw going.SpoilerQuite possibly, the best rebuttal I have ever witnessed.

Yeah, Nano armour gives 0 damage unless attacked with a sabre. Quantum just adds in other cool fun things to play with.

Re: Minecraft Thread X: In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the ... SSSSSSSS
...I think I know what might be going on here.
Have you charged your nano armor in a MFE/MFSU? Or did you simply craft it and put it on?
You have to charge nano armor before it becomes a Power Ranger set. Uncharged, it is, in fact, pretty much equivilant to an iron/bronze set.
That said, I just tested Creeper+Face Syndrome, and DID take two hearts damage. Still better than my bronze was though.
In other news, I love the Mining Laser.Last edited by The Bushranger; 2012-10-26 at 01:01 PM.

Re: Minecraft Thread X: In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the ... SSSSSSSS
Note that repairing enchanted tools is really expensive. If you would want to repair your 'UberEnchanted Tool' you're probably using more xp than you used to make it in the first place. [I tried to combine two swords, one with Fire Aspect I and Smite IV, the other with Knockback II and Loot I, and it took me around 60 levels. It was only possible in Creative, Survival just said 'Too Expensive'.]<-- I'll have to check this, I'm not sure if it's right.

Re: Minecraft Thread X: In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the ... SSSSSSSS
Yea, I've been playing with IC2 since 1.1. I know to charge my stuff before putting it on. Also, when it has no charge, it provides no protection, unless they changed that in a ninja-patch somewhere. Then again, I've never let my nano armor get under half charge, so I've never personally experienced it.
The other difference could be a) I play on Hard difficulty, and b) I don't use the chestplate, I use a battpack/lappack, so my armor rating is quite a bit shy from full nano.Last edited by ShneekeyTheLost; 2012-10-26 at 02:00 PM.

Also, just finished hooking up the proper way to deal with creepers spawn-camping outside my door...

Re: Minecraft Thread X: In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the ... SSSSSSSS
An easier way would be to hook up an MFSU to an uninsulated HV cable which loops around your perimeter. Basically, an electric fence, since anything touching the uninsulated HV cable takes damage based on the charge running through. So at 512 Eu flowing through... yea, roasted creeper.
It'll also probably be less energy intensive, to be honest, and prevents accidental friendly fire.SpoilerQuite possibly, the best rebuttal I have ever witnessed.

Wait, so we have a tekkit server now? What's the IP? And what version is the regular server running atm? I accidentally borked my jar.

Re: Minecraft Thread X: In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the ... SSSSSSSS
Alright people, I managed to figure out the wiring for the PVP doors, that made it so that both teams have to push a ready button, that doesn't retoggle it's signal once the button pops back out, the signal is 1-bit memorized, and alerts the other team with a redstone torch that you are ready. When you push the ready button, on your side you have a glowstone that turns on saying that you are ready (for people who don't know if they're ready or not). Once you're ready, and both teams have pushed the ready button. Signals will go to an AND gate, which is then connected to a flip flop or a latch (don't remember), but that resets the ready buttons with a pulse, as if enacted by a push of the button. The doors for both teams open up, and have a delayed close (I timed it and got about 18.8 seconds) that the two doors were open for. That should be enough time for at max 5 people to funnel through the door to the battle. After that time, the doors close, and the whole thing is ready for the next group to come through. Here's a picture of the wiring; Let me know what you all think :D I'm very proud of myself for having gotten it to work (even though it's not that difficult).

Regular server is, as far as I know, 1.3.2. I don't think we have a Tekkit server. I, at least, am playing Tekkit singleplayer.
(Yes, Tekkit singleplayer, not Technic. I don't want Thaumcraft and Somnia would kill my computer dead. I did add the Forestry mod and CT3 though.)Last edited by The Bushranger; 2012-10-27 at 09:01 PM.

Re: Minecraft Thread X: In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the ... SSSSSSSS
So i kinda ballsed up in making an XPgrinder on my singleplayer from a zombie spawner, made the things fall like, three or four blocks before getting crushed, so they are already missing some points of health. Now it's getting tricky to find a repeater setup that doesn't either kill all but one or two of em entirely or make them all three to four hit kills.

Re: Minecraft Thread X: In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the ... SSSSSSSS
Okay, the ultimate XP grinder super set up:
1) Find your spawner. Skeletons used to be best. Now with the new drops I'm not sure.
2) Light and clear the area around it.
3) Have them fall into water far enough away from the spawner to allow more to spawn.
4) Have this water push them to a 1X1 area they cannot move from. (When you block and de-light the place) You want the lower half of their body visible. It needs to be close enough to the spawner, when you stand next to them the spawner activates, but you need to set it up so light doesn't leak into the spawner.
5) Set up a splash potion of healing production area.
6) Delight the area.
7) Wait for mobs to pile up. WARNING THIS CAN BREAK THE SPAWN LIMIT AND PREVENT NORMAL SPAWNING ON THE SERVER
8) Throw down splash potion of healing.
9) WARNING THIS MAY CAUSE SERVER LAG WHEN THE XP IS COLLECTING.
10) Pick up the loots and enjoy the max XP.
Advanced grinders involve a water elevator and a well measured drop so you just need one potion to kill them all. A simpler set up will likely require multiple potions, but that shouldn't be an issue.

One thing to be cautious of with mob grinders now is that in 1.4 creepers will explode after taking fall damage...

think i got the grinder working, still kills off at least a third of the zombies and the rest are at least two punches to hit, but i reaaaly don't want to move the dang thing up annother block just yet. they still take damage when they fall, and ladders won't fix it. Vine's idk about.

That also means you need to be careful about 'natural' spawns in your machine...
Still doable, but a little less certain now.
As far as choices, either zombie or skeleton, now that zombies drop iron gear rarely. Particularly if you have RP2 to turn undamaged iron armor back into ingots.SpoilerQuite possibly, the best rebuttal I have ever witnessed.
