I may or may not have drunkenly growled along to Amon Amarth while walking home last night.

I'll sing along to Iron Maiden blind stinking sober.

That's nothing to be ashamed of. I'll rap along to Chief Keef in a heartbeat. Racial slurs be damned. Honestly I'm probably not talented enough (or have the lung capacity) to sing along to Bruce Dickinson.

Avantasia: While I'm on the subject, here's the concept of a Power Metal super-group taken to its logical conclusion. Tobias Sammet of Edguy calls in every other Power Metal singer that he can find to sing on various tracks. The only album I have from them is The Wicked Symphony, which has the distinction of featuring one of the best songs that Tim Owens has done since basically ever*.

Go get The Metal Opera. Both parts. Go now. Run.

Also if we're talking power metal, Axel Rudi Pell is kinda awesome. They actually have more of a classic NWOBHM sound goign on. Pretty good.

Hey, anybody have some good, classic folk metal? I'm introducing Brütal Legend's Tim Schafer to it and I need to cover the scope of the genre.

Skyclad are one of the original folk metal bands. Try Folkemon.

Orphaned Land have also been around for a while. Plus it's an example of Middle Eastern folk metal, and there's not a lot of those around.

Also if you want to classify Bathory's Viking stuff as folk, Hammerheart and Nordland I and II are great examples.

When Melodic Death Metal bands lean into the "Melodic" more than the "Death Metal". I dunno. Feels like they should pull the trigger and just become indie rock, already.

Sure, a lot of melodeath groups are like that. But this one, with it's John Carpenter-esque synths and worn melancholy, seemed more the kind to hang around the record store than be off fighting dragons.

For future reference is this thread inclusive of hardcore punk? I know genres like grindcore occupy a grey area. And then there's Hardcore Punk bands like Kvelertak who incorporate elements of Black Metal.

And (mostly) BM bands like Impaled Nazarene that incorporate grindcore-punk elements, so I would say it's fair game.

I know last time I asked blackened crust was fair game, but I dunno about straight up hardcore punk. Maybe there should be a whole separate punk rock thread? I'd be for it. :v

Hmm, interesting. Kind of reminds me of Carach Angren, who recently impressed me very much with their latest album, Where The Corpses Sink Forever.
