Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
I have to say I wouldn't mind if that Orc dies right there. And really horribly. He's ugly, stupid and utterly unsympathetic.
Grem on the other hand at least has a personality.
And despite that the orc probably still has alot of fans...

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Hey, alot of fans must be handy during a heatwave.
I wouldn't mind both of them killing each other, really. Biscuit really reeks of "let me tell you about my half-elf ranger" syndrome: the guy is a collection of hodgepodge character traits that seems like they've been chosen because they seemed cool to a player that needed to reroll a new PC. (I wouldn't be surprised if it were, in fact, deliberate.) But that doesn't make him a good story character. In fact he's not even a good roleplaying character.
And Grem is yawn. Just yawn.Hark! An avatar drawn by Kate Beaton!

If you can relate to him, he is not unsympathethic because you have sympathy for him. Therefore you have no reason to have sympathy for him.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Frankly, "It's a very sunny day" is his best line for me. Also I don't think he is all that stupid. He manged to escape the Switchbeast and get it to attack the Vipers by using his head.

I prefer Biscuit to Grem myself; I do want both to survive, though.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
I notice everyone seems to think that one person in each match-up is going to die. Was that confirmed by Thunt or something? Or is this just a big assumption?

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
We dont' know for sure that anyone will die, but it seems probable based on the teaser that at least one character will. Of course, whether any of them other than Dies counts as a main character is up for debate. (And he already died horribly, so it'd be kinda anticlimatic for him to die less-horribly now.)
I reiterate my fondness for Biscuit (though it seems likely Grem will kill him just based on the fact that the comic is named Goblins rather than Goblins and a Giant Orc, plus there's the absurdly obvious romantic subplot between him and Fox that's almost certain to come). Since Duv is the comic's top villain (apart from possibly Kore) and Random Viper Boy isn't a main character by any sane definition, Biscuit is far and away the likeliest casualty, but I'll miss him. A gigantic, very wise orc was just too awesome a character (although I could have lived without the transparent lips, they make his expression difficult to read).
(And I don't know who said he was stupid but it wasn't me. That's part of why I like him, even if it admittedly makes his orc-ness more of a stretch than it already was due to his size and the transparent parts.)Last edited by willpell; 2012-08-31 at 08:47 AM.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
It was me, but when I said stupid, I didn't mean it in the sense of not intelligent. I meant it as "it's just a stupid character concept".
His most defining trait is his "I don't care for anything", but if you don't care that you lost something, then there's no motivation to try to protect what you have. Or to maintain a friendship even if it doesn't 100% match with your goals.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
SpoilerI don't know. Thunt kind of likes anticlimaxes... So, I'm placing my bet on something like (but not necessarily) Grem throwing the finger at Biscuit in desperation, and either missing completely, or Biscuit simply swatting it away with the flat of his axe or the back of his hand (the part covered by his gloves, since evidently it has to be skin-to-skin contact for the melting effect to trigger) and following up by decapitating Grem.

Spoiler
To be honest I don't mind if both of them, in their current weakened state, die to the disease of Mr Fingers.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
SpoilerIs there any feat Biscuit could take that adds his wisdom modifier to his fort save? Or does he have to take a level of monk?
According to the stat block that shall not be referenced, it would be what, a 16 to save (assuming a minor finger)? That should easy for Biscuit to make with either of those.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
SpoilerMy thought was that Biscuit may recognize Mr. Fingers and stop attacking long enough to discover Grem's identity; they're fighting now because Biscuit just sees another Viper and Grem just sees somebody killing Vipers, if they talk to each other they might decide they're on the same side.

Of course, this comic isn't strictly run by the rules. If he manages to hit Biscuit's neck, or stuff it down his throat, then yeah, he can at least assure Biscuit's death.Last edited by The Linker; 2012-08-31 at 10:31 PM.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
SpoilerThe suicidal part would be that he saved a piece of Mr. Fingers in the first place (assuming that it retains potency after the monster's death). It would be like carrying a glass vial of Ebola in your pocket and saying "Oh, I just won't bump into anything".
