Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
Oh good, I'm not the only one. All I can remember about it was something about a woman literally undergoing labour, and the frantic husband trying to get her into the hospital before his firstborn came into the world in the middle of the atrium, and the receptionist being hideously cruel and unhelpful.
I was informed by my friend that I was meant to find this amusing. I...did not, to say the least."Not trusting me might be the smartest decision you made since getting off of your horse."

I can't stand British Television, honestly. To surreal.
Then again, I woke up from a dream where I was a research assistant who got super-powers while fighting Doctor Wiley.

I liked... some bits of Little Britain. Like the voice over (all the time), and some of the sketches... the first three times.Jobs-wise I think it's meant to be. In honesty, though, I'm not just being pessimistic about that job: a big part of it is acquisitions, which I actually haven't done before, really. But don't tell anyone <.<

Little Britain is a disgrace to the good names of Britain and British comedy.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
Oh good, I thought it was just me that didn't get it.
Channel Four does some truly exemplary British comedies - IT Crowd, Spaced, Black Books, Father Ted (well the last one is more Irish than British but damn, it's funny). Brass Eye was the bleeding edge of satire at its time...
...but Channel Four is also guilty of crimes against comedy as well. Bo Selecta, Ali G, Jackass. All of them will burn in comedy hell for eternity.

I really liked That Mitchell And Webb Look the once or twice I caught it, and one or two other recent sketch shows. Never liked Katherine Tait's stuff, though (except on Doctor Who).

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
On the note of odd stuff coming out of noses, my mom told me that in high school it once happened while she was eating a peanut butter cup.
On the note of doing stupid things, I once (in second grade) tried to confirm something I'd seen in a cartoon. Specifically, the idea that pepper makes you sneeze. So I took a painful of pepper and snorted it. I didn't sneeze, but all day I wished I had.
Edit: it seems Swype has learned irony. I meant "palmfull", not "painful".Last edited by Qwertystop; 2012-09-19 at 08:43 AM.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
Oh gods, I remember that one.
I don't watch anything but British humor!
Yes, some of it I liked too. Although thinking back on it, I have difficulty remembering why, and even those wore thin after a few repeated sketches.
:thumbs up:
Shaddap Amurcan.
Oddly, I've never watched any of the good or bad ones you mention, (I've been sorta busy lately and haven't gotten to explore.) I've heard good stuff about Father Ted though.
Mitchell and Webb is absolutely brilliant. Have you listened to their radio sow at all? You can find some of it on youtube.
Mrragh, Peep Show. I started watching it because I absolutely loved Mitchell and Webb, and I just stopped watching after a few hours' worth of episodes.
EDIT: Ouch, Querty, that sounds horrible
I tried to snort pepper once for the same reason. >.<Last edited by MoonCat; 2012-09-19 at 08:47 AM.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
Spaced and Father Ted are a little dated now but still funny. Ali G was the breakthrough character for Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Bruno, The Dictator) and some people still reckon it's his best. It's probably worth checking out to see if it's your thing, although it's not for everyone. Don't even bother with Jackass or Bo Selecta.

Both Father Ted and Spaced are very 90s (like the Vicar of Dibley, I suppose, although they're better than TVoD, I think).

So although the show was produced at the end of the 90s, its gaze is retrospective rather than forward and hopeful.
They are both excellent though, and worth watching.Last edited by Aedilred; 2012-09-19 at 09:41 AM.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
AbFab is great. I haven't seen enough of it (including the new series, of which I missed all but the first episode, I think).
Mentioning Armando Iannucci also put me in mind of The Thick of It. That is well worth watching, although I should caution the unwary that there is a lot of swearing, some of it quite imaginative.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
Then you are blessed.
So, last night I had a dream where two friends I haven't seen in ages, some random woman I have never met, and I fought Dr. Wiley from Mega-Man with energy manipulation based super-powers.
My specialty was 'Animism' and I was called Aioman. I also had super-reflexes.
All else I remember is that of my two friends, one had super-flexibility powers, as well as being just more powerful than me in general, and the other was a quintessential brick.
It was probably the most involved dream I've had in months.
