Re: Borderlands 2
True that. I went back into BL1 a while back to complete the last armory mission for the Completionist achievement, and was actually disgusted by how easily my level 69 Lilith mowed through the Lance in a matter of minutes, then tanked Knoxx by Phasewalking behind a pillar every so often to go from almost dead to full health and shields.

Re: Borderlands 2
You seem to be forgetting that Lilith was hopelessly imbalanced in comparison to the other 3 Vault Hunters. Roland was the offensive class who could be played defensively, Brick was the tank who could be played offensively, Mordecai was the sniper who could be played as the distraction, support, or offense, and Lilith could be the offense, defense, medic, support, distraction, chicken, and be at the battlefield before everyone else. By level 69, she was tearing stuff apart.
Not that it mattered, since everyone cared about loot, not arena battles (WHERE ARE ARENA BATTLES?!).Steam username is Triscuitable.

Re: Borderlands 2
Uhh... no you didn't. You had more skill points than you planned on having, generally, but by no means did you have every skill simply because you could invest far more points into each skill in Diablo than you can in Borderlands. The difference between a level 80 character in D2 and a level 99 character was relatively small, all things considered.
Raising the level cap doesn't add new content. It doesn't make loot hunting more interesting, it just rehashes the same loot hunting we already have. Raising the cap to 60 won't create new or interesting items. The items that are strong now are strong because of their mechanics, not their numbers. Nothing will actually change, I'd just have to farm Doc Mercy another couple of thousand times for a new Infinity. I'd have to make an entirely new character and level it to the cap so that I could get leveled versions of the Sandhawk and other valuable quest items. There's nothing new about that. It's just more the same grind that's already in the game.
Similarly, increasing the level cap doesn't somehow make new bosses more interesting. For NPCs, bosses included, the only thing that the level cap influences is their numbers. A level 60 Pete would have a stronger DoT and another 100 million or so health. If the new raid bosses (there are two, aren't there? Dexi and Vora? I've only killed one...) are unsatisfying that's because of their design. That has nothing to do with a level cap.
Eh, I don't get this. As far as I can tell each DLC has included new top-tier gear for one spec or another. Even so, as I've already mentioned, the new level cap won't allow you to find new guns to use at a higher level. It'll let you find the same guns that you already have. Given the drop rates in this game, that doesn't sound very satisfying.
It still is the only one that matters for farming. It depends on your class, really. Maya and Zero feel safe enough to use the Bee in pretty much any situation. Admittedly, I do keep an Evolution as back-up but nothing really compares to tripling your DPS as far as survivability is concerned.
It seems to me that most of your complaints are about the lack of content (and content quality). That's fair and reasonable and everything but increasing the level cap isn't actually relevant to either of those things.

Re: Borderlands 2
I don't see how the Bee hurts your survivability that badly. I've been using it on my Commando and rarely have an issue with survival. I can see where it could be bad with the Gunzerker, whose special has no utility beyond MOAR BULLETS! The commando, siren, and assassin all have specials with some manner of crowd control. With a well placed turret, I can empty my guns several times without getting hit. Also the commando can get several other skills that effect shields positively (Capacity, Recharge speed/delay, recharge on kills) that help keep you shields at max even while you're taking fire. With all my bonuses, even with the nerfs to the Bee, the recharge delay being 5+ seconds is really closer to 2 (I haven't tested that accurately, I just know that all my percentage bonuses add up to... a lot).

I had the same feeling when I found the level cap was going from 61 to 69. My Bessie wasn't the skull-obliterating tool of destruction that it used to be.

Re: Borderlands 2
I don't think they'd be anything like as unstoppable in B2 even if they were still in the game; mobs have such huge amounts of life at higher levels that sheer volume of fire isn't always enough to stop them. (I know that the lowest-end mobs from the latest DLC have at least 170k hit points because they can survive a headshot of that magnitude!).

Re: Borderlands 2
Just started the Hammerlock bit, and I've got to say, so far I too am pretty disappointed.
Is anyone else getting some serious Zombie Island of Dr. Ned deja vu? Giant swamp, creepy obvious scientist bad guy, swarms of melee baddies...
Just me?

Re: Borderlands 2
Yes, yes you are. Claptrap was always a condescending little prick in the main game. I hated him before, and this DLC does not help my opinion of him.
The difference is that The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned was funny, and this DLC is not. It was also longer than 3 hours.Last edited by Triscuitable; 2013-01-17 at 12:28 PM.

Re: Borderlands 2
I'm also reminded of the Fallout 3 DLC that had swarms of the enemies that took 5 or 6 sniper rifle headshots to bring down. I recall my sniping-specialist scrambling backwards as fast as he could, whipping out a minigun, spinning in 180s and sprinting away while reloading so the gap wouldn't close quite as quickly, praying that he could put enough bullets into those buggers to stop them before getting overwhelmed, running every gun I was carrying dry before I was halfway through the quest...

Re: Borderlands 2
Yeah this damage sponge thing is not fun. I'd rather have more enemies with less health spawning so their numbers make up the same or even greater health total than the sponges have. Seeing a super badass lightning shaman healing himself up to half health three times in a row when you were so close to killing him is rage quit material (not because he's very hard but because taking him down takes bloody ages).

Re: Borderlands 2
You think those are bad? The Chupacabra shamans are worse--they fire a healing beam at you which sucks away your shields and health and restores theirs; doing enough damage to kill one before dying is pretty darned difficult. Doesn't help that they can fire their healing beam with unerring accuracy from across the far side of the map, and it doesn't get cut off if you duck behind a solid object! Only way I've found to deal with them is lots of incendiary damage coupled with singularity grenades to interrupt their healing when they start.
Overall, not really enjoying this DLC and I'm not sure if I'm going to bother finishing it...which makes that season pass I bought when the game came out a bit of a waste!

Re: Borderlands 2
I'm trying Sir Hammerlock's DLC with my level 50 Gaige now that I'm done with Maya TVHM and finally got a Conference Call (thanks for the twink-transfer box, Claptrap!).
It still sucks. I've gotten a few decent drops this time (a couple of really nice shotguns in fact, which usually work great with Gaige's Close Enough skill), but major encounter areas are SO filled with the bullet sponge mobs that I've run out of shotgun ammo in the middle of a fight (and I'm fighting with a full load). Deathtrap is making it a little easier on me (plus the fact that I'm level 50). My Legendary shield (The Impaler--shoots corrosive spikes when I take bullet damage) isn't getting as much of a workout as it should since most of the enemies are melee enemies.
*sigh*
It's an unfun slog...plus there's TOO much knees-bent running about because everything is so far from everything else and the fanboats are made of tissue paper.
I guess since I'm not inspired to keep playing like I was (after 255 hours, I guess I got my money's worth), I have time to finish up all the adventures I need to write for Gary Con next month before the next DLC comes out. :pJediSoth

Re: Borderlands 2
It's easily one of the worst DLCs Gearbox has ever made. It's just garbage. It's boring, gray (they increased the contrast in many areas to make it grayer for some reason), and not funny.

Re: Borderlands 2
So, I finally got this game. Its fun, but I can see where it is very multiplayer oriented. Heck, about 10% of the challenges can't even be completed solo. I also finally got Xbox live, and tried to play it online. This is my first playthrough, so I'm still picking up the story and all that, and I REALLY like doing side quests, even if the rewards are crap. I can't even THINK while I'm online, though. People are just tearing through the content so fast that I can't even listen to the dialogue. I missed the WHOLE Tiny Tina interaction because a couple of guys that joined my game just raced through it.
So, I guess my point is, does anyone play this game on Xbox who would like to join me for a bit more leisurely run through? I have a 20 Assassin who just got to New Sanctuary, and one of each of the other 3 characters who are all at about the same point of arriving in Sanctuary. I have a Kinect for voice chat, which seems to work ok. I almost wish I would have bought it for PC instead, though, since not having text chat is almost oppressive, IMO.
My Xbox Live name is: aintnoyooper. I typically play mid-days, west coast time, after my morning workout/job hunting and when the kids come home.

Re: Borderlands 2
Tipping Moxxi will get you two purple SMGs of fairly decent quality. The CSD should be a part of the last DLC. My advice, get the season pass.
I'm not sure what you were expecting. Most of BL2 isn't exactly HI-larious, just low toilet humour coupled with gratuitous violence. My only gripe about Hammerlock's is how many enemies are nigh uncritable, for those of us wishing to play Zero.

Re: Borderlands 2
It was trying to be funny constantly. Constantly. But the whole thing felt like watching an episode of The Simpsons post season-8: "urgh."
Oh, and I found the unused audio files for informing Tiny Tina about what happened at the Bunker, as well as the original audio log you find in the Wildlife Exploitation Reserve on Tina's parents. Worthy of note: different voice actor for her mom, and Tina's also present in the logs.

Re: Borderlands 2
OK...I'm getting really frustrated...I have EVERY single location challenge completed up to the Wildlife Exploitation Preserve. Each and every vault symbol and everything. I'm not really wanting to continue on with the story until I finish this one, but PIMON WON'T FREAKING SPAWN!!!! I get Tumbaa nearly every time I run it, but no sign of a stalker named Pimon. WHY? WHY? WHY?
I've tried hosting my own private games, public games, and joining other people's public games, including people running it for the first time. My sniper assassin is level 26, 6-7 levels above everything in the zone, and I've found almost a dozen purples and an orange from running it 3-4 dozen times, but I've not seen Pimon spawn once. Not even once.
