IC II Toes In The Water

Natalia stretches and rubs the sleep from her eyes before looking around.

"...What." Upon seeing the arrows, Natalia instantly jerks upright, drawing her weapons as she looks around and listens intently, on the brink of shouting a warning.

Listening intently, Natalia tries to identify the arrows.

Knowledge (Nature): (d20+4)[15]

There aren't many creatures that could sneak up on them and fire such tiny arrows. "Fey!" she shouts, jostling everyone in order to wake them up.

Natalia's never encountered fey before, but she's heard stories. They're tricksters, but if she remembers correctly (and she hopes she does) some are more mischievous than malicious. They might be able to talk them down.

"faes?" Miriam is surprised. She has never met any nor studied anything about them. All she knew about it was that they are mischievous beings.
She looks at Natalia "We might have invaded their territory. I wonder why they decided to attack Shiny."

[Cavelcade]

"Maybe he sold them some fey gold once, and they wanted revenge." Yawning, Kurt stands and shakes the sleep off him, quickly buckling on his armour and picking his axe back up, though he doesn't seem overly worried. They had their chance to kill them.

"Make him...One of them?" Natalia jests, though her stance and tone are still guarded.

Miriam stops and looks at her teammates "Why did we all oversleep? What time is it? What if fey magic is this?"

[Cavelcade]

"Then we must beware." He frowns, then. "And check our things." He starts checking his items to try and ensure they're real.

[achinca]

Miriam follows Kurt suggestion and checks to make sure nothing feels strange or different.

[Zman]

The group gets up and questions their oversleeping all discussing it among themselves as Shiny still slumbered away, none taking the time to wake the exhausted gnome.

As the party looks around, attempting to see if any threat is near they are greeted with nothing but the sounds of songbirds and summer fare.

DC 20 Knowledge Nature to know that they are Pixie sleep arrows, and some must have been passing through the area when Shiny was on watch opting to knock the gnome out while he was on guard duty.


Shiny can wake up as soon as Admiral is around.

[Zman]

Valen gets up quickly, trying to discern what is going on around him. As he spots the tiny arrows protruding from shiny he laughs a little, unfortunately know knowing enough about them.

As Miriam has never studied nature, she has no clue about the nature of the arrow and how they ended up there.

Knowledge (Nature): (d20+4)[20]

Natalia runs over to Shiny, to see if he's been seriously injured. As she inspects the arrows, she notices there's no blood around them and the gnome wasn't woken by her shouts. In fact, if he had been awake to be attacked, he would have woken them up--he must have been unconscious before being shot--or maybe the arrows themselves knocked him out? Natalia really isn't sure about that one. Remembering the effects of Shiny's sleep spells in battle, the rogue surmises that some passing fey must have decided to beat the gnome with his own enchantments. Nothing seems out of place so the fey's probably long gone. Still, Natalia keeps on guard, with her eyes open and her ears pricked.

Wanting to see how he'll spin this tale, Natalia smacks Shiny upside the head to wake him up.

Mithril woke up to the fuss around here and sat up dazed. Looking around she tried to figure out what Natalia was so concerned about.

Until you say more I am going with what Natalia knows, if Mithril knows more just tell me.

Her eyes immediately focused on the two arrows sticking out of Shiny. Sighing she recognized the makers of the arrows as fey. "Somehow I find it fitting that Shiny was the one who got stuck with the arrows. A trickster hit by a tricksters game."

"Best admirer of their work," Natalia jokes back.

Kurt grins at the two of them, then stands, more stoic-faced. "Come on...we've a lot of ground to cover."

Natalia pokes the snoring Shiny again, then yanks the two arrows from his rear. If he refuses to wake up after this, she lifts him up and dumps him in Kurt's arms. "As...awkward as possible," she suggests to him with a grin on her face.

Mithril took the two arrows from Natalia. Examining the markmanship she started laughing.

"They are nothing to worry about, as long as we don't disturb them or their home we should be fine." Mithril put the arrows into her pack, carefully laying them at the bottom.

Natalia nods. "Not...Not looking to harm," she calls out to the air, in case the pixie is nearby and just out of sight. After a moment's thought she adds, "Know...Know of orcs?

[Zman]

Nothing but the sound of silence interrupted by the sounds of the forest greets Natalias query...

[Admiral]

Wanting to see how he'll spin this tale, Natalia smacks Shiny upside the head to wake him up.

Shiny is difficult to wake up, and he starts to mumble in his sleep. "Yes, I'm Shiny Sleepypants, pathological liar and arrow victim..."

On the second slap Shiny finally snaps into consciousness, regaining his usual energy almost immediately, and is surprised to see everyone looking at him intently. He raises one eyebrow. "What's happening right now?"

Natalia almost jerks back a bit. "Told the truth!" she all but shouts.

[Admiral]

Once someone explains and shows Shiny the arrows, the gnome chuckles, without missing a beat. "Oh, I have a perfectly good explanation for that."

"Long ago, I was exploring the western coast when I came across a most unusual civilization: tiny people, each hardly bigger than the head of a pin. They worshipped at my feet (quite literally), calling me Shiny Skyblocker, giant and supreme emperor. For a couple of years I ruled over them as the most generous of kings- just by shaking an apple tree I could get them enough food to last three winters, and I successfully defended them against the scourge of snails that threatened to invade and overtake their kingdom."

"But all good things must come to an end- one day I spit carelessly without looking and nearly drowned an entire fiefdom. That was when I learned that the city's military had prepared for the scenario when I would turn on them- they had, in secret, been constructing an enormous weapon capable of damaging even me. Over the years they had constructed a gigantic crossbow, one where a dozen villagers could stand just on the arrowhead alone. Before I could explain myself or apologize, their army tore back the roof of their gladiator stadium to reveal the secret weapon and shot a pair of the arrows into my face. My feelings hurt more than my flesh, I ran away from the civilization an outcast, but have always kept the tiny bolts in my back pocket as a reminder and a memento of my time as a giant. I suppose that while I was sleeping, I must have rolled over and been pricked by the arrows again."

Miriam sights as Shiny talks. "Why is every thing a joke with him? What can't he understand how much weight one has to carry in this realm?" she thinks to herself.

Natalia spends several moments in stunned silence at how effortlessly he spun the embarrassment into a completely ludicrous yet entertaining tale.
"A...born bard," she says, shaking her head. "If you're...Skyblocker, then what are we? And Valen, tallest?"

[Admiral]

Shiny shrugs. "I'm shorter than you now, but I used to be taller. It's a little known fact among humans that gnomes grow backwards. If we travel together much longer I'll need to ride in one of your pockets."

[Zman]

Listening to the gnome spin his tales, Valen just frowns, "Little man, you have such a colorful history. Next time keep your eyes open when on watch."

"Shiny Talltale, beat by pixies," Natalia says as she packs her bags. "Go before we fight...twice today."

[Athedia]

Mithril sat near the edge of the camp with her spellbook, carefully choosing spells that may help the group in their search for Henry and if it came down to it stopping the orcs.
