    Here we go again.

Anyone hoping this won't suck, and/or be awesome enough to redeem the franchise from Stallonedredd?

I haven't seen the old version and I haven't read the comics; but in the trailers it seems like a fun action movie... so I guess I am hoping it won't suck.

Well I liked StaloneDredd In an ironic kind of way.

    For he is "The lawh"

This one seems to be taking the whole apocalypse idea more seriously.

    Lets hope it doesn't suck.

As long as he keeps the helmet on then it should at least achieve the latter won't it?

Karl Urban as Dredd, Lena Headey as the villain, a thumbs-up from John Wagner himself - all very promising. Everything I've heard about this film so far suggests only awesomeness.

Saw the trailer recently and is it me or is it unfortunately rather too much like 'The Raid' ?

That plot has been done before, also the script for this started getting written sooner than the one for The Raid.

Having seen the movie - yeah, there are some similarities with The Raid, but I'd chalk it up to coincidence.

The movie is a lot of fun. The 3D is okay; it doesn't do a lot for me, aside from one or two shots, but I didn't find it detracting from the movie either. I can give it a decent recommendation.

The previews have Dredd speaking in a gritty whipser like a dangerous Clint Eastwood type. Does he do that through the entire movie?

Dredd shouldn't whisper, not even dangerously. He's a grokking Judge. He should speak like there's a P.A. system shoved down his thorax.

I hope they don't have him whispering.

Hey, that was a great movie!

OK, it was a horrible move, but it was a great horrible movie.

Nobody in that flick was under any delusions that it was any good, but they owned the parts and made it a lot of fun to watch.

I tend to agree. There's a few movies that, while not exactly faithful to the original source, are funny in their own right.

Street Fighter springs to mind. "But for me, it was Tuesday".

He's very growly, but he's not usually as quiet as he is in the voiceover.

For what it's worth I enjoyed it. It looks nice, the story is... Well ok, fairly standard hardman copper cleans up, but as thats more or less Dredds origin anyway I'm cool with that. A few things I could nitpick if I was feeling fussy (not just from a fan perspective, there were one or two action film cliches in there which got a Marge Simpson-esque 'hmmmm'!) but I can let them go; overall it's a good 'un

I Will have moved into Newcastle mere days before it will go out. If any Geordies are in this forum and want to bond with a new friend over THE LAW, msg me

I was watching the piece they wrote about Dredd in the paper this morning, and something struct me hard:

    - Heavily Armored Policeman
    - Uses a heavy handgun designed more to kill than to neutralize
    - Applies the law with a hand so heavy he wouldn't last 2 days in real life
    - The reason he is so harsh in his law enforcement is because the society he oversees is inches away from collapsing into utter chaos due to crime and corruption

    Robocop, is that you?!?

Is it possible Robocop was inspired by Dredd in its thematic?

edit: I apparently am a genius

It's rated R in the US....I figure as long as no one goes into detail describing the graphic violence or other content that earned the movie its rating, we're fine (speaking as a poster who's had to review the Forum Rules far too many times).

Judge Dredd inspired the Robocop character design so technically both are correct.

    "Your move, creep!"

Seriously, I will definitely watch this movie. I loved Dredd when I was a teen (haven't read it for 20 years) and therefore hated the first movie.

All I'll say is that said graphic violence (although "graphic" is no worse than your common-or-garden action gunfest, IMO, especially Robocop, its all in certain scenes involving
    Spoiler
    Show
    slo-mo useage
    )
    is beautifully shot.
