Maybe the ring wasn't magical but the armor was or the boots or something and they hurt him from the inside?

He's apparently still building himself a full body, and just got a mouth with Baka's bottom. He's got to say something with his new mouth, but I don't think we've seen any of the noisy round spirits say anything but that with their mouths. That is to say, he's saying something because now he can and that's all he can say, not because of pain.

Looks like more of a war-cry to me, Kills might have just been quiet until he got himself a mouth because he spent quite some time unable to speak as an arm, requiring the mouth of Dies in order to speak, and when he became his own independent entity, he immediately made a mouth and arms.

Could be that he just doesn't realize he doesn't need a mouth to speak/scream, or perhaps he just realizes it's more intimidating to scream from a mouth full of teeth then from a foot.

Thunt has a borderline-fetishistic love of gruesome violence, so this shouldn't surprise you.

This doesn't even really serve a purpose because nobody cared about those characters. They were supposed to be a joke a long while ago, and there are already three or four other groups of characters which have had some actual development.

So what, Kills Horribly turn into a giant skeleton monster, big whoop. The whole scene could have been omitted or shortened and readers would still have been able to identify it once KH becomes relevant much later in some other scene which involves one of the established groups of characters. In fact, he's kinda losing the impact of revealing the monstrous form once it attacks characters that readers might care about.

Well, it doesn't surprise me, and I can well live with it, but curiously, I can imagine someone still living, even if almost completely dissolved in acid, but the guy ripped in half and still crawling and acting, breaks my suspension of disbelief. Mind's funny.

Isn't that kind of tied in to the definition, though? I mean, 'excessive' means 'too much', which is entirely subjective; if you find something excessive, you can really only mean that you do not like whatever is happening.

This isn't a complaint exactly, but has anyone noticed how Thunt pretty much always draws the same set of fangs on any big nasty monster? Kills's new chompers are the same exact shape as Biscuit's non-tiny, non-hidden teeth, and I'm pretty sure they also match the Switchbeast, the Not-in-the-Fiend-Folio Yellow Musk Creeper, and at least one creature from the Brassmoon city breakout (I don't recall exactly who, I just have a vague impression that these "stock" jaws go back that far).

alternitively, maybe this isn't Herbert's doing. Thunt has stated before that Herbert has nothing to do with the GAP and that they have their own adventures completely outside of his influince. maybe this is as much of a surprised to him as it is the players.

Or alternitively, maybe the characters are expecting it to be part of Herbert's plan, but the players themselves aren't really doing anything, maybe even having quit the game.

Those 1st level people don't just up and poof when a player stops playing them, they are still alive, maybe these guys just think the game is still going on when it really isn't.

I dunno, the diologue doesn't really suggest that kind of disconnect between player and character.

Then of course comes the problem of what happens if the influence of the game rules drops. I mean... nothing really. They've effectivley been ignored when inconvenient already and fluff is so far removed from DND stuff it doesn't matter regularly. Likewise from the player perspective, it just means their dice act wierdly for a couple of seconds before they quit playing.

There's no real narrative reason for this to work the way it does is the problem I have.

looks like Kills still isn't quite used to having more then a small sphere form to deal with. You can see it's the sphere "hips" and it's legs/arms that are doing most of the moving, while the rest just kinda gets dragged around.
