Alembic shrugs, but moves a bit faster to catch up. More than likely, he'd need to help the others identify the spinachherb anyway.

Those whe were with her in class, which was everyone, noticed that Quill in class was very different from Quill outside. While the teacher spoke, she was completely quiet and attentive, the ideal student, although she didnt write anything down.

After class ended, however, she went back to her usual bubbly self as they headed out on the walk.
Gosh, I wonder what sort of things are in the forest. I mean, there has to be SOMETHING other than animals. And there must be lots of cool plants, and animals, and like....

You approach the forest having taken notes on what the two plants look like. When you get into it, you find it quite a let down, there are a few animals running around, and a lot of plants, and the blue flowers stand out a lot, and spinachherb being found near the base of trees. This was almost insultingly easy, you could probably explore it for a while longer, and pick up some more goods, but the deeper you get the more dangerous it gets.

Alembic wanders about the entry area of the forest, not just gathering the two herbs for this potion, but also identifying and gathering others that are likely to be useful (knowledge nature: (1d20+10)[20], proffession herbalist: (1d20+6)[15]).

This trip should keep him in ingredients for both his schoolwork and his private research for several days to come. Also, having enough herb and blue leaf to stock up on healing potions will let him conserve his alchemical abilities for other things when they begin dungeon crawling.

After collecting his fill, he asks Sebastion (with most of the others in easy listening range), "Explore, or go back?"

Not very long, and not a super large amount, but keeping a large amount on standby will be helpful. A whole blue flower, and about 2 plants of spinacherb will make 1 potion.

Aveline's tread is careful, her gaze wary. She has long since collected the necessary herbs, but it might be wise to scout this forest out further if she was to need to continually come back out here for supplies. The girl resolves to bring charcoal and parchment next time so that she can make a map of the area beyond the academy grounds. As she walks, her armor makes slight clinking noises - one of its drawbacks.

Sebastian had just about finished gathering the plants in excess, enough for five or six potions, when Alembic asked his question.

"We'll probably end up doing both at some point but the order we do it in is up to you, Quill and Aldaric.

Sebastian himself rather wants to get back to the labs and make some potion before exploring but his instinct says that he should look around while he is here. His final decision is that someone else can decide.

Seeing that Sebastian wasn't jumping at the idea of exploration, Alembic decides that it would be a good idea to prepare before going on a serious gathering mission - with no clear goal in mind, there was little chance of them finding something really useful.

You make it back to the academy with plenty of time to spare. You could find a lab, or explore the library for more information. Or even check out the cafeteria for some grub.

You're just going by the basic recipe? If so, add potions in your inventory equal to the amount you make. Keep in mind it might be good to keep some ingredients on standby, and that potions of cure light wounds well....you know.

Ohhhh. You must mean that funny-looking one with the pink hair. I dont think he was too ditzy though. Oh well. Theres no accounting for taste.

As they proceed to the lab, Quill gets out ingredients and starts enthusiastically mixing -- rather too enthusiatically, leaving several oddly colored and bubbling potions that most certainly do not look how potions of cure light wounds are supposed to look, which she promptly remedies with with some food dye and some other random nearby ingredients. Of the ten potions she made, three were of this odd color, although everyone had to admit they looked rather legitamate once she "fixed" them. In a bout of uncharacteristic neatness, Quill labelled the odd ones as such, then attached them to the hooped belt about her waist.

    Spoiler

Im not sure how to respond to that bluff check, so i'll just go with it and assume Quill forgot about it.

Also, I request that the potion effects of the odd potions conform to this table http://phoenixinn.iwarp.com/fantasy/...f%20Wonder.pdf Or to whatever table the DM sees fit. But something amusing.

Alembic makes 5 potion of cure light wounds, using about half of the herbs he gathered. One he labels for turning in at the student affairs office, while the other four go into his bag. Then he begins experimenting, substituting water lily for spinacherb in one, then for blue leaf in another, and finally adding it to the other two in a third, just to see what adding an additional water based element may add to the potion.

    Spoiler
    Show
After creating the potions, I'll use a potion of Identify to see what properties the resulting brews have. Just for reference: Craft Alchemy (1d20+17)[25]

When Aldaric asks him questions, he responds with terse but still helpful answers. Brewing these potions is simple enough that in-depth explanations are not especially useful.

After finishing his brewing, he asks the group, "Library? I want to look up other potions."

You all make your potions. One of you standard, one of you crazy, and other with bit of alchemist touch.

Your examination of your experiments with the water lily, show that one of them, might act a bit better than the standard recipe, you debate about handing that one in. Getting an A probably requires above and beyond after all.

The library is extremely well sorted with all kinds of books on magic. No actual spellbooks though, but a lot on theory, understanding, and research. Rather than have actually recipes, the books are arranged like a puzzle. No one just hands you a computer, but with the right parts and electronics research, you could build one.

    0. 2 to 1 ratio
    1. There seems to be a lot of blue flower floating in the pot. Some of it, did mix though. 1 to 1 ratio
    2. It mixes and give off a weird scent. From what you can tell, it probably would heal wounds, but poison you at the same time. 2 to 1 with poison
    3. As 1, but it mixes even better, little flower left. 1.3 to 1 ratio
    4. A fair bit of blue flower leftover. 1.5 to 1 ratio.
    5. As 4 but with the same problem as 2.
