A 205 Partial: The item Amulet of Freedom of Speech will do what you want for 5k, no UMD. Find it in Icy Heart pg 6.
I assume that the UMD would be the same as emulating a race with speech, so 25.A205 Continuance
There is a difference between 'mute' and 'unable to speak'. If you can make a speech-like sound (ie, vocalize in any way) then you could use the 'Activate Blindly' option of Use Magic Device. That's a DC 25 check. If you cannot make a sound at all, then you cannot use this option, since you must perform an action similar to that which would activate the item normally in order to use Active Blindly. You would require further magical assistance to be able to speak a command word or generate an equivalent sound at that point.
(Amulet of Freedom of Speech is found in the Icy Heart adventure module on the Wizards website.)
A 194 (cont.)
Upon checking, the Enveloping Pit appears to be cylindrical like the Portable Hole, though the former has a ten foot diameter to the latter's six (I remembered wrong and thought they were the same) in addition to the extra depth.
In which case, the Enveloping Pit actually holds ~13.9 times as much.
Part of my problem is a healthy dose of math-lexia. (Seriously, it's a thing. I get by most of the time because gamers tend to memorize every permutation of the dice they use.)Last edited by unseenmage; 2013-06-18 at 08:18 PM.

Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXIII
Q 209
Question about domain feats (CC)
It says
SpoilerClerics and Domain Feats: If you are a cleric (or any other character class who gains access to a domain), you can choose any domain feat corresponding to the list of domains offered by your deity, even if you do not have access to those particular domains. A cleric of Pelor, for example, can choose to cast spells from the Good and Healing domains but select the Strength Devotion and Sun Devotion feats.
In addition, you can choose to give up access to a domain in exchange for the corresponding domain feat. Doing so allows you to select up to three domain feats, but you cannot prepare domain spells or use the granted power of the sacrifi ced domain. In essence, you trade in a domain for an extra feat slot that you can spend only on a specifi c domain feat.
For example, the above cleric of Pelor could choose to give up the granted power and spells of the Good domain for the Good Devotion feat.
So as a chaotic evil cleric worshipping Nerull, can I go the following:
Chosen domains: Trickery and Death domain
additionally these feats: Knowledge devotion and Death devotion
Correct?
Also, if I'd drop the Trickery domain I could chose 3 domain devotion feats in total?
Just making sure I read the description correctly.Last edited by Gargravarr; 2013-06-19 at 04:54 AM.

Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXIII
A209: ask your DM. Complete Champion states that domain feats beyond the first must be "thematically appropriate," and Knowledge is not one of the domains provided by Nerull*. If you drop the Trickery domain for Trickery Devotion, you can have up to 2 additional thematically appropriate domain feats for a total of 3.
*Granted, if you're using the Cloistered Cleric variant from Unearthed Arcana, you automatically get the Knowledge domain (which could then be swapped for Knowledge Devotion as one of your 3).

Q212
When a Monk or a Binder/Knight of the Sacred Seal becomes a Native Outsider, do you recalculate BAB, HD, Saves, and Skills as an outsider of their HD? Or would you only change Racial HD?

No. The BAB, Saves, HP etc. only apply to racial hit dice. a monk or a Knight of the Sacred Seal generally only has hit dice from class levels.

Q213 Other than the Complete Psionic is there any source that lists the mantles of deities available to divine minds? The list is not exhaustive. Alternatively, does at any point the Divine mind mention the possibility of any other deity?

Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXIII
A 210 Ask your DM.
Non-Cleric characters may have up to two domain feats (chosen as general feats), which must be thematically linked. A Cleric character may have up to three domain feats, which still must be thematically linked; of these, 1-3 must be obtained by swapping a domain for a single* domain feat. (Cloistered Clerics have Knowledge as an additional domain, for a total of three.) If your Cleric worships a deity then the deity's portfolio specifies the domains available; your total list of available domain feats would be those associated with these domains. If your Cleric does not worship a deity then it's entirely up to your individual DM whether the domain feats you wish to have meet their approval for thematic connection.
* While a planar domain "costs" two normal domains, all domain swaps still only net you a single domain feat for each domain your Cleric gives up.
A 211 None.
Substances used in vial quantities are not generally treated as splash weapons under the D&D rules. Items that only function as doses must be ingested, one dose at a time. Being surrounded by many doses of things that only function when swallowed doesn't have any effect under the rules. See CHARGES, DOSES, AND MULTIPLE USES on pages 214-215 of Dungeon Master's Guide, as well as the section on POISON on pages 296-297.Last edited by Curmudgeon; 2013-06-19 at 11:28 AM.

A 214 Planar domain are a special subset of domain, which have alignment requirements, and costs two domains (a cleric gains a planar domain instead of the two that it would normally gain) in exchange of that the domain has two spells at every level. They can be found at SC 282.

A 215 Ask your DM.
Planar domains are available to Clerics who devote themselves to the appropriate alignments rather than a deity. Any other access requires dispensation from your individual DM.
A 216 Complete Warrior and Complete Arcane
You'll find these rules on Complete Warrior page 16 and Complete Arcane page 17. Note that they are substantially different from each other.

No, while alter self changes the physical appearance, it does not change race, type or subtype.

A 217
The specific wording of various rules is why this thread exists, mostly. The Complete Warrior rule applies to all class features (with the exceptions you originally noted), but only the benefits are lost (and thus would be regained if you re-met the prestige class entry requirements). The Complete Arcane rule only applies to Special abilities (i.e., those under the Special column in the class table), and thus excepts other abilities such as Spells per Day. However, this rule doesn't have you just lose the benefits of those special abilities; you just lose them. They're gone forever, with no specified mechanism for regaining them.
As I stated, the rules are substantially different.

Is race defined to be a product of type/subtype? If not, how is the Answer for 218 gotten to?

A 219
Race unfortunately is not clearly defined. Alter self does not mention anything about becoming a member of a different race, you do not even gain the type and subtype of the race of your new form. Thus you cannot qualify for being a member of a different race, which is a requirement for taking the racial substitution levels.

Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXIII
A 219 A race is sometimes defined in a creature entry, when done so it is normally tied to type and subtype. If a spell does not change a creature type, and subtype, which are broader than race it cannot change the race.
In addition, Alter Self only reference to race is: "You are effectively disguised as an average member of the new form’s race." It doesn't say you are effective a member of the new form's race. Thanks a lot Gengy for the awesome... just a sec... avatar. :)

Q 221
If a creature has, say, DR 15/slashing, and they are attacked with a bite attack that does 20 damage (piercing, slashing, and bludgeoning, as usual for a bite), what happens? Do they take 20 damage, 15 damage, or 5 damage?

20. The attack is of the quality that overcomes the DR, and thus all the damage goes through.

Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXIII
A 224 Contention
Protection from alignment does not limit the effects to those two. It merely includes them. It actually blocks all attempts to "exercise mental control over the creature". The question is whether fear effects exercise control.
A 225 Contention
a) craven only calls out immunity to fear effects. It does not call out immunities that may or may not include all fear effects. The mind-affecting descriptor is not equal to the fear descriptor.
b) There is at least one effect that is a fear effect but not mind-affecting: The mummy's despair ability. It is not a mind-affecting effect because only fear attacks are classified as mind-affecting.
