    Schweincopters. Of course.

But she mixes languages. It should be either pigcopter/swinecopter or schweinschrauber/schweinkopter.

Good LORD but when Agatha goes off the skids she goes big time. First circus wagons as weapons of war and perfect coffee, now this. It's like reading fairy tales written by somebody in delirium.

I assume after the Schweincopters (tm pending) get the sled up and out they'll be flying along after it, providing aerial support and guidance. As such they're probably weaponized to the max, too...

Are these Tortall books any good? I'm always looking for new series to read - with Eddings dead, Pratchett working towards it, and Martin and Rothfuss taking 5 years to write one book (I really miss Pratchett's "two a year" book release schedule), I find myself trying new authors a lot, and I'm terrible at picking them.

Slightly less OT, I was really hoping GG would be back on a reliable schedule by now. If I had known giving them money was going to make them this unreliable... ok, I'd probably would have given them the money anyway, but I would've grumbled a lot more about it.

Your list is lacking Butcher and Sanderson, so you could try either of those. Though Sanderson isn't exactly great about his schedule either. He has written one giant doorstopper of a series starter and that was ages ago.

I liked Sanderson's mistborn setting, but I hated his characters. I wanted to strangle every single one of them (compared to, say, Rothfuss' Kingkiller, where I only want to strangle Denna).

Butcher I've heard of, but modern-setting urban fantasy is not my cup of tea.

Dont start with Mistborn. It's by far his worst work. If you're willing to give him another chance, pick up Warbreaker. It's short and to the point and works much better.

As for Butcher... he wanted to write epic fantasy, but no one wanted to publish it. So he wrote Epic fantasy disguised as Urban fantasy. The disguise slips more and more the further into the series you get. It also has an amazingly fun cast of characters.

The Tortall books (and most of Tamora Pierce's other works) are YA fiction, so as long as you go in expecting such, you should be pleased - they're very well written and characterized, with an interesting setting.

No, it seems to be stuck on Wednesday, that's all I can get.

    Flying pigs?Great.

Butcher I've heard of, but modern-setting urban fantasy is not my cup of tea.
Butcher also wrote a fantasy series called Codex Alera. I guess high fantasy would be the correct description of it. Here's a paragraph on it from wiki:
The series chronicles the coming-of-age of a young man named Tavi in the realm of Alera, an empire similar to Rome, on the world of Carna. Every Aleran has some degree of command over elemental forces or spirits called furies, save for Tavi, who is considered unusual for his lack of one. As the aging First Lord struggles to maintain his hold on a realm on the brink of civil war, Tavi must use all of his intelligence to save Alera.
It's quite good, the magic system is pretty cool, though, as opposed to his other series, Butcher takes the approach of not really explaining it to you, and just letting you sort of experience it as you go. And there are several other races that are each unique, well-rounded, and interesting in their own right. So if that's more your thing you might check it out.

Personally, I prefer the Dresden Files, but that's because it's first person and the main character is just so damn fun.

On a different note, I agree with you about Denna. That girl is infuriating. Kvothe would be much better off chasing after Devi or Mola or pretty much anyone else.

EDIT: If you liked the premise of Mistborn but not the characters, you might check out Alloy of Law. Same world, same magic system, but set hundreds of years later in sort of a 19th century wild west/industrial revolution era.

I personally find stories told from the first person to be much less likable. Not impossible, just harder to enjoy.
