Well that's a nifty little trick, thanks for explaining
And I'm just gonna throw out a wild guess here: you're quite fond of the color purple. Am I right?

Purple is also my favorite color. Now I want to make something purple. I need to find some avatar time.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
....Huh. I basically just drop shading on in the same layer. Never quite figured out how to do the layers thing and it works.
Noononoonono. They aren't. The goblins are small, uglier, weaker and afraid of light. Then, bred with humans, they can go in light, though it still hurts them. Orcs are larger, and fiercer, and don't always live in caverns. They're the ones in the Misty Mountains.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I don't mean to be contrary, but...
SpoilerTolkien himself claimed the opposite:
'Orc is not an English word. It occurs in one or two places but is usually translated goblin (or hobgoblin for the larger kinds). Orc is the hobbits' form of the name given at that time to these creatures.'
I have a friend who is a bit of a lore-nut when it comes to these things, and I've been sort of forced to learn it.Last edited by Darklord Bright; 2013-10-30 at 11:01 PM.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Happy Halloween everybody, I hope you all had fun this evening I dressed as Mr. Hyde and took my nephews Spiderman and Spiderman trick-or-treating.
Also, I'm in a bit of a pickle:
Early next month (the seventh), I have a really good friend of mine coming over. Her and I both have strong feelings for one another and I have very little money so I'm going to make an OotS picture for her - romantic, lovey-dovey, etc. - as a gift. I'm wanting to either make a picture of us hugging or me kissing her upon the cheek and... I don't know how to go about it. Have any of you fine people made something doing either of these? I would really appreciate any/all references. Please and thank you

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Well honestly, I find that drawing pictures of two people being close in oots style to be very difficult. Which is a shame, because I rather enjoy the idea of drawing more pictures like that.
Since I didn't have anything exactly like what you were asking, I whipped this up really quick.
As you can see, the main issue is the big heads. Once you get two oots people close to each other, their giant heads get in the way before their bodies get very close at all. So either you have to have their bodies far apart, or have their heads overlap. How their faces are drawn is also a limiting factor.

Difficult or not, I'm still gonna go through with it. She means a lot to me and it's one of the few things I'm actually "good" at doing.
Many thanks Gulaghar, I appreciate your tips, pointers, and kissy-face art You're a very helpful individual.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Hi all, new to the posting and all but I've been lurking in this thread for a little bit and you guys are pretty awesome! Figure I should post up some stuff I've done, many of which I've made by copying styles and stuff I've seen here and elsewhere. My apologies if that's frowned upon. But it wouldn't hurt to get some critiques on how I'm doing.
I've been getting into this with the long run goal of making a fan comic of the Pathfinder campaign I'm playing in and here's my initial attempt at actually bringing it to life.
Spoiler
I feel like I've been rambling, so I'll stop for now with a link to my other stuff so that my less...polished first attempts can also be visible:

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
If memory serves right, your previous avatar was a bard/cleric/PrC (name escapes me), so this one is an undead bard... Wizard? I'm just throwing out a (likely wrong) guess, so please correct anything and everything that's wrong xD

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
OOTS avatars tend to look better with a consistent, or at least semi-consistent line width. When you are drawing try setting all lines excluding the eyes and detail lines like the cloak to something from 1.2-1.5 px in width.
That's my policy, at least. There are at least three other posters here who will tell you something different about line width.Currently RPG group playing: Endworld (D&D 5e. A Homebrewed post-apocalyptic supplement.)
My campaign settings: Azura; 10,000 CE | The Frozen Seas | Bloodstones (Paleolithic Horror) | AEGIS - The School for Superhero Children | Iaphela (5e, Elder Scrolls)

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Fennec, if you want to keep the woman about the same size and get the whole fox in the picture, try re-positioning the fox in front of her feet.
Fennec foxes are so awesome! :D
Also, you can - and I only just found this out - select everything of her and the fox and export (Ctrl+shift+e) the selection at a size you want. Just change the larger of the two sizes (height and width) down to 120 pixels.
I'd post up some screen-shots to explain it but at the moment I'm having computer difficultiesLast edited by gurgleflep; 2013-11-23 at 08:59 PM.
