Chief among those is the distinction between Yearling and Daring Do. Yearling is more the author, adventurer, and living, breathing pony, while Daring Do is the persona she adopts when telling about her stories. Similar to Bruce Wayne/Batman, only if Bruce Wayne felt like writing the comics for his adventures. Or more accurately, Dr. Jones/Indiana Jones. This one's more on the speculation side of things, but it rings true enough for me that I can buy it.

Also some good points about Ahuizotl. Guy's been trying to enact this plan for, what, seventeen books now? And he's been thwarted by the same individual mare every time? In the grand scheme of threats to Equestria as a whole, I'm not sure if he's big enough to make even the B-List roster. And if he ever did, he'd be inviting a whole new level of attention to his antics, shortly followed by a whole new level of response from Celly and Luna.

Those, combined with the fact that we we did see Daring Do on the book cover, thus meaning Dash wasn't completely self-inserting herself, makes me feel even better about this episode.

So, all the adventures in the Daring Do books are real. that means that everything in there has to follow the rules of the universe. before, it didn't have to, because it's fiction. So, then, what was up with the rings? Why did the big ring at the bottom keep the fortress intact? Why did the small one cause sweltering heat? Was there a specific enchantment placed on each one? If so, what were the other ones for? And why did Daring Do have that one ring (no pun intended)?

Also, it felt like there was one thing and one thing only happening. Which, even in adventure episodes, never seems to happen. For an episode focused on a character only seen once before, it really focused hard on her. It would be like, if Read it And Weep had nothing but Rainbow Dash reading the book, and to the audience, seeing what she is reading. The rest of the group felt like they just went along for the ride for no reason. makes for a one-dimensional episode.

That is exactly the scene that appeared in my head when I saw those thugs surround Daring for that last ring. And... okay Google is sleeping on the job so I can't find a good image of the actual scene from Last Crusade, but I want to say the two "bosses" had similar looks.

I think all the rings were just part of a set with one enchantment. The sweltering heat happens if you had them all together, like assembling a big magical solar collector or some such. Nothing that happened in the episode was any more outrageous than the stuff that happens in Indiana Jones movies. Ancient temples are almost guaranteed to have a self-destruction mechanism of some kind that is immune to wear over time and is accurate to the ounce.
