Re: OOTS #947 - The Discussion Thread
Why is the artwork so ugly? I didn't like it :/

Re: OOTS #947 - The Discussion Thread
Those tiny beard bristles on young Durkon are adorable. I assume that all male dwarves are born with their peach fuzz already in place.
Also Durkon's Mom is awesome and I'm rather worried now as to why the High Priest of Hel is even taking the time to watch these memories. Is he planning to meet her for real?

Is "yarf" a typo, or a word I don't know?

Re: OOTS #947 - The Discussion Thread
Nice, not only an art upgrade (check out that feet detail, baby!) but looks like the comic has been resized to be bigger. That was the first noticeable difference I spotted.
Welcome back, OotS. We've missed you.

Re: OOTS #947 - The Discussion Thread
Holy art upgrade, Batman. Now here's something to return to.
I wonder if we're going to stick with Durkon's memories for a while, or if this is just an in media res thing again... probably the latter, if I had to guess.
Interesting that Durkula seemingly has to view Durkon's memories one by one, rather than just having access to them. I wonder if that's foreshadowing anything.

Re: OOTS #947 - The Discussion Thread
I already adore Durkon's mum. And even just in two pages, it's pretty obvious where Durkon gets his sober sense of duty from.
Also little Durkon is the cutest.Last edited by FullStop; 2014-03-31 at 11:55 AM.
I have a bad habit of writing O-Chul as O'Chul, like he's some kind of blue-bearded Scots-Irish crusader. I habitually pronounce "Mystic Theurge" as "Mystic The Urge".

Re: OOTS #947 - The Discussion Thread
And it's back! Awesome. Can't wait to see where this is going.
The art upgrade... I'm going to be honest, I don't love it. It may just be a "need to get used to" thing, but the thicker limbs, the perspective on Ma's foot in panel 2 and the change to Durkon's bindings look a bit off. I also miss the High Priest of Hel's red eyes and fangs (though I guess that could be due to him being some sort of dark counterpart spirit in Durkon's mind rather than the vampire).
Sorry to have that be my first comment after the end of the hiatus. It's a bit of a bummer, and I doubt you'll change anything. This seems like something pretty majorly considered. But anyway, I still love this comic to bits and I'm eagerly awaiting everything that comes next.Last edited by Cizak; 2014-03-31 at 11:59 AM.
I won a thread. Am I pathetic to list that in my signture? Yes. Of course I am.

Re: OOTS #947 - The Discussion Thread
Our long national morning of refreshing the page is over. Cute!
The new font is big and readable. I wonder if the entire comic will continue to be extra-wide so things aren't squooshed?
The arms and hands will take some getting used to. It's a little odd to see the extra detail in things that are still so un-hand-like, I think.Last edited by Toper; 2014-03-31 at 11:58 AM.

Re: OOTS #947 - The Discussion Thread
Hooray! Durkon finally gets a pair of boots! (It took me until the last frame to realize that dwarven boots were an art upgrade, and not just part of some to-be-revealed backstory as to why Durkon doesn't wear them.) Also - young Durkon's proto-beard is AWESOME.

Re: OOTS #947 - The Discussion Thread
Huzzah, the comic is back!
Durkon's story starts really well, and raises a few questions.
Don't the dwarves have a cleric capable of Regenerate? Durkon's mom seemed to be accustomed to live without an arm.
Does Durkula going throu all Durkon's memories, or he is just doing his research about Durkon's mom? He won't try to turn her as first, right? There must be some sense of order - personal, political or dramatic - and if no one else is going to bring it to this world, I will.

Re: OOTS #947 - The Discussion Thread
Full disclosure; the art upgrade is wigging me out a bit. It's great, but it'll take some getting used to. We'll be able to tell new readers that back in our day, the stick figures had stick limbs, not these fancy schmancy slim coloured rectangles. Does this comic still count as a stick-figure comic? I suppose they still have the stick eye lines and black dot eyes.
In other news, Durkon's mum is an awesome one-armed lady and not-Durkon (Even if the forum staff adopt Durkula as the official tag for the High Priest of Hel, I'm still sticking to not-Durkon. I'm a rebel.) is a horrible and evil monster. And yes little Durkon, the sky art is very pretty. As is the chasm poor ladder dwarf almost fell into.
EDIT: I also learned, courtesy of UrbanDictionary, that yarfing is a combination of yelling and barfing. Classy not-Durkon.Last edited by oppyu; 2014-03-31 at 12:03 PM.

Re: OOTS #947 - The Discussion Thread
Back again and about time, too.
Digging the art upgrade and font. Is the vampire controlling his eyes and fangs in order to come across more pleasant among the living, or is it just because this is all in the mind?Last edited by Gift Jeraff; 2014-03-31 at 12:02 PM.

Re: OOTS #947 - The Discussion Thread
I like to imagine the dwarf that fell was just walking around using a ladder for stilts. He certainly didn't seem to be going anywhere that was up.
