Seaside 2: Rising Tides

Arty chuckles.
"It's funny, he said the same thing. Though after possessing one of my colleagues and using her to come at me with a knife, it was much less convincing." he says. "What sets your people specifically apart? Libra told me nothing, and you weren't very specific when I asked before. I highly doubt that people always confused you for evil entities just because of your chosen color scheme."
People wouldn't be that silly, would they?

"Did you bring any climbing gear? If we can climb up the outside, it might be easier..." Kirin muses to herself. "It'd avoid any defenses set up inside the place, anyway."

"That's a complicated question I'm afraid but essentially a lot of us are controlled by our creators who aren't very nice people. Apart from that there are a few things like our essence which keeps us alive and can turn others into us." Zhora explains they reach the elevator and she presses the button to get them to the bottom floor.

[Mystery Island!]

The paddle boat moves up to the side of the jetty, looking anxiously at the seemingly empty island. "You sure about this? No one has returned from here... from what I heard at least!" The tower stands at the very top of a small hill looking even more stereotypical evil than the keep itself, adorned with horrific gargoyles that looks to have been carved by someone with a wee bit much imagination.

"I'm afraid not. We may be able to figure something out when we're there, though." Xavier stares off at the tower as they reach the land. It is a bit worrying, he has to admit to himself. "We'll be quite fine. We'll go in there, recover what was taken, and be right on our way. No fuss."

That elevator might be a bit crowded right now.
"Creator? Are we talking mortal beings or some other power?" he asks as they descend.

"No, no, no, we can't go riding into Thanksmas on a hippopotamus and sing any song other than the hippopotamus song! That would be a waste of a perfectly good hippo!" Mirth insists.

"Perfectly good robot hippo," Malice corrects. "Real hippopotamuses are untrainable, psychotic, man-eating killing machines. Also, that song is basically I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts, but with different words. I'd rather sing nothing at all than sing that."

"Oh, look who's complaining aboout someone re-using a song!" Mirth stage-whispers to Cherry Bomb.

"Excuse me if I haven't obsessively examined every single last thing my opposite did while I was gone for like an entire six years!" Malice glares, having absolutely no idea what song Happy is talking about, and just assuming Magtok stole one of his earlier ideas before he had it himself.

"I'm not talking about him! I just don't see the difference in rewriting Winter Wonderland and rewriting the Coconut song into the Hippopotamus song!" Mirth crosses her arms. "There's nothing at all wrong with the hippopotamus song. Plus it could snarf down the presents, then after we make our escape, the heroes could discover the secret hatch that opens up and saves Thanksmas. But if you're going to be a jerk about it, then just make it a polar bear and be done."

Malice sighs in exasperation. "The difference is being able to personally take credit for the redesign. Plus, singing about wanting a hippopotamus for Thanksmas will just confuse all the idiots in the crowd, because we'll have a hippopotamus right there, and yet the song would still be going on about it. People are stupid, Happy. Really stupid. You can't do anything too complex, or the news will be all about two near-sighted doofuses in goofy costumes who couldn't see the hippo right under their noses."

"Fiiiiiiiine." Mirth says, and flops down on the floor, in a complete sulk. Coincidentally, on the red X, though she didn't plan it that way. "Do it your way then."

"I'm not trying to ruin your fun, I just-" Malice stops mid-apology, frantically yanking a remote out from his sleeve and pressing down on several buttons. A robot leopard stops just short of pouncing on Mirth, tumbling head over heels right past her instead. Stupid red X thingy.

"Look, what if I just have the hippo's speakers sing it? It goes inhaling presents, we cause trouble, we flee without it, I don't have to sing that song, and then we sell five golden rings on the black market and order something expensive from one of the Skyside restaurants that don't put hypnosis serum in the soup of the day."

Mirth looks up at Malice, head tilted. "I didn't expect you to go groveling and apologetic. That's what he does."

If he was feeling at all sympathetic, it's instantly lost when she accuses him of acting like his other.

"It's not groveling. I'm supposed to be proving a point about how my way is better and more fun. I hardly see how I could accomplish that if I had to drag you through the whole sidekick week, grumbling and rolling your eyes all the while. If it really bothers you that much, I'll stop, and you'll never hear another apology out of me again, though. We can even spend all week working on dumb ol' robots, or bloody gangland wars in the streets of Skyside, or waxing floors right here in this casino. There's already precedent for jerkface villains doing that to their underlings; it wouldn't even violate the spirit of the deal at all."

Mirth sits with her arms around her knees, that PG skirt hem still somehow failing to show anything but shadows.

"The deal was that you're supposed to be convincing me that evil is the only true freedom. That all those years I gave to GLoG were a waste, and that I should stayed on the dark path instead. Is doing the floors really going to make your case?"

Kirin sighs at that. "What are we going to be looking for, anyway? Smoke in a bottle? A... card or something? How do you store things magically stolen like that?"

"It'll keep me from pulling any more of my hair out," Malice jokes, before a MalBot steps forward, and hands over some papers. "Thanks, Threep. Seriously though, I can do the singing hippo, we can steal some things, flee, and then sell whatever the heroes don't take back and then go and...I don't know, depends on how much we make. Buy or steal something ludicrously expensive to remember it by, like a fifty foot gilded Thanksmas tree or something."

"Yeah, sure. You are planning to "accidentally" drop any of the kids prezzies that we steal, if the heroes aren't up to the job? I mean, you haven't changed that much, have you?" Mirth says.

Malice rolls his eyes. Well, eye. You know what I mean. "I spent that time in hell for being evil, not for being needlessly unpleasant and a child-hating jerk. I'm not running off with anyone's EI Joe doll, Happy, but if someone's crazy enough to have something genuinely valuable lying around out in the open, and it's not just some new NexBox or something, it's gone."

"Well then. I guess it's time for the training and preparation montage," Mirth says. "Let's have a Holly Jolly Thanksmas!" Then she grimaces. "That is a terrible catch-phrase, and I promise I will never use it again."

"I'll hold you to that. Now then, let's see what we've got from the old 80s montage generator..." Malice kicks what looks like an absurdly large 50s era computer, and it whirrs to life!

And so, with a heart full of evil (or at least disruption), and a pouch full of laughing gas jingle bells, Mirth perches atop the hippopotamus, which she's named Yule, and prepares for her debut into supervillainy. Bwahaha!

"Is there anything I can do?" Eagle asks as the two presumably goes off to the Jetty. "I admit there isn't much I can do on land but perhaps I can meet you at another part of the island or something?" The boat asks.

"Definitely not mortal." Zhora replies as she looks at the numbers on the elevator display slowly ticking down. "They're beings that normally can't perceive or effect this world, it's only through possessing us they can reach it. We're being used like tiny gates into this world." She explains.

"Oh, my. That sounds supremely unpleasant."
Arty wants to ask if she could be possessed at any time, but he thinks that he may want to drop the subject on the grounds of this seeming like the sort of thing you really don't discuss on a date. But he doesn't know what to change the subject to...
"You, uh, seem to be getting the hang of just moving around normally, even if you are asking me for a swimming lesson." he says awkwardly.

"Is there anything I can do?" Eagle asks as the two presumably goes off to the Jetty. "I admit there isn't much I can do on land but perhaps I can meet you at another part of the island or something?" The boat asks.

"We only need you to wait here. Be ready to leave in case we must depart in a hurry." Xavier steps off their ride and offers a hand to help Kirin. "With any luck, we won't be too long."

"Yeah." Kirin gets out some granola while she looks at the tower, pondering.

for our duo's big scene

The Malbots were sleeping
plugged into the walls,
Dressed like yuletide elves
Or Nutcracker dolls.

Mirth surely snored somewhere,
but I couldn't sleep
Hades haunted my nightmares
Hell had slain all my sheep

Besides that, my face
had been lacking in class
So I'd unscrewed the chrome
and was putting in brass

I felt strangely mournful
and found myself sighing
I was drastically changing
The old Magtok was dying.

"It isn't the first time I moved around on four legs actually and some of it seems to come with instinct. But I never really did anything more complex than running while doing that. The swimming part was completely lost to me." Zhora replies just as the elevator stops and the doors open. She walks outside and then slowly heads in the direction of the beach.

[Mystery Island!]

"Good luck then!" Eagle shouts after them as they walk up the path to the tower. The door, politely enough, opens on it's own accord as they approach, revealing a well-lit foyer filled with a just barely visible staircase leading upstairs. From what they can see outside the bottom floor as no visible furniture of any kind, instead it's filled with piles of what appears to be small glass-bubbles. If anyone can detect energy (the "supernatural" or "magical" kind of energy) they can probably tell these are magical.

"Well, it might seem a little awkward at first, but I'm sure you'll find that it really is quite functional." he says, otherwise following her to the beach

"How odd..." Xavier proceeds inside cautiously. The bubbles most of all. He can't help but wonder what properties they have. They're obviously not normal. "What do you think they are?" He asks his companion. It didn't take him too long to get distracted, did it.

"You know how I asked what we should be looking for, how things like that were kept? Wanna bet that they're kept inside glass balls?"

Kirin looks them over, but has no magical skill. "Can you get anything from them? Near as I can tell, these are empty. Hopefully the full ones will be labeled."

Kirin can't see any labels at any of these but a closer look will reveal that they all contain a swirly mist inside of them. Upstairs they can hear a soft snoring sound. Which must be rather loud considering they can hear it all the way from downstairs.
