Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Actually I quite like feeding them cheesies whenever I take the ferry over to Victoria. You just hold your hand flat, stick a cheesy vertically between two fingers by one end and hold out your hand flat and they'll come by and grab it from you. Same way you feed manta rays actually, except using fish and holding your hand flat on the bottom of the pool. Thank you Seaworld Florida.

Based on my gerbil, this seems like an accurate representation of animal intelligence actually.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
How could anything with even the most basic survival instincts NOT tell the difference between something that is inanimate and something that is not!
I mean pigeons are dumb, but they aren't dodos.
Still funny though.Last edited by Lizard Lord; 2015-01-16 at 01:05 AM.

Well, windows have reflections, after all. Up close it probably looks like an uglier version of City Face.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I got my gerbil a stuffed mouse as a companion (it was a cat toy). Rodents will decapitate competitors, and this turned out to be no exception. Then she left the corpse and wouldn't go up where it was until I removed it. Definitely some confusion as to the alive status of the mouse.

He will never actually show what happens during the summer, will he? It's all about the school year.

Fair enough. I don't really think of those as part of the main comic, and it also didn't cover the entire summer. But it is still a good point.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Ah, THAT explains why Kat never goes into the Forest with Annie!
SpoilerI wonder what each would see, if they did meet. Kat doesn't seem to be affected by the Etheric at all; would see she Coyote as more than a coyote? Would Coyote see a terrifying Angel? If so, could he forebear teasing it?
Coyote and Zimmy: THAT'S the meeting I'm looking forward to!

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Something I kinda only just realized; When Coyote stated that the Court was Man's attempt to become a God, will Kat end up being the fruit of their labour? Since Kat seems to be tending to an opposition to the Forest.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
On other GC forums they're talking about the Ether Bunny, I might as well do that too.
And then there's the fact that when a coyote invites a rabbit to be the guest of honor it seldom works out well for the rabbit. This is also being pointed out, and I thought I'd pass it on.
Of greater import, I think, is Annie's expression in the last panel. She looks so suddenly sad. Ysengrin held that Forest Folk had to die to transition to humans; has the process changed? Or are Annie or Coyote going to have to kill the jackalope so she can become a human he?

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
That was my guess as well. Jackalope wants to move to the Court, leaving behind her body and friends. It also explains why this little powwow is in ether-land, and not in reality. Coyote is there to create the new body, Annie is there as the medium, the Jackalope is there to move into the new body. (My guess, given the behavior of the so-called "suicide fairies" and the fact that both Red and Blue made the transition, is that Jackalope's forest body is already dead)

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
If I were a jackalope and Coyote referred to me as 'delicious', I'd be uneasy. Unless of course my consumption was necessary for my transformation. In which case, heck, I might as well be delicious so SOMEBODY could enjoy this.
(Coyote's breath is so bad it's melting Annie Etheric hair???)

I have a feeling that Coyote refers to all of the Forest animals as "delicious".

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Coyote thinks this next step is interesting and refers to it as removing life...
Maybe this isn't killing as we usually know it.

No I think it's exactly killing as we know it. Except he wants Annie to do it. Sort of a coming of age ritual.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
It could also be that it is the job of the forest medium to do so, since it sounded like Ysengrin used to handle the killing part.
Man this thing was full of outdated stuff.
