Re: Who is "Charlie"?
He's a tuna. :)
If he has a horn he could be a tunacorn. Although I suppose technically that would make him a narwhal.

Re: Who is "Charlie"?
Hey guys, I have a question- What's the general forum view on "Bumping" things? Cuz I still feel this is relvant, and honestly I'd like to know the answer to this question...
And what, no votes so far for "Charlie the Talking Undead Dog"?

Re: Who is "Charlie"?
Well, I suspect this thread began to die because we haven't found out what Charlie is yet. Speculation only goes so far. Not a big deal to bump it, though, it's not even a week old.

Re: Who is "Charlie"?
Seeing how most of the puns haven't been obvious so far, I don't think Charlie is a Chaplain or an angel. And after seeing the YouTube video (I have to say, I almost stopped watching it but figured there had to be some punchline or else it wouldn't have been posted by so many people), I think Charlie has to be a unicorn.

Re: Who is "Charlie"?
wasn't there a unicorn (unicown?) somewhere in Ansom's horde? made out of glass and such. Think unicorns are just like the cloth golems and can't actually talk ;) which (I'm sad to say) would rule out Charlie the Unicown :)

Re: Who is "Charlie"?
I believe that, just to be extra-punny, Charlie is a Chaplain, who constantly dresses in a bowler hat and fake moustash with a cane, and who commands a trio of angelic beings. On one side, I could see him being mute, however that just doesn't work out for when he gives his angels orders...
Edit: I couldn't stand more than about thirty seconds of that flash video...Last edited by ShneekeyTheLost; 2007-03-29 at 01:17 AM.

Re: Who is "Charlie"?
Ansom said "And someone get me Charlie." That makes it sound like he's talking about his mount, and we already know that one of his officers was riding an invisible unicorn. That makes me think that Charlie is also an invisible unicorn, like the YouTube "Charlie the unicorn."
I think you're right--only he's an invisible unicorn, so it's a pun on both counts. A typically Erfworld pun that's awesome as soon as you get it, but not so obvious that it detracts from the seriousness of the comic if you're not in the mood to laugh.

The unicorn wasn't invisible. It was made of glass.

Re: Who is "Charlie"?
Well, it looks like "leader of angels" was the right one. Dang.
I make games.
"...I worry that modern gaming is gradually shrinking the wide spectrum of gameplay mechanics into a single narrow red bar with "KILL" written on it sideways. Exploration, navigation, puzzles, platforming, all gradually shrinking away until only one thing remains, being taken by the hand from room to room, moving on only when nothing remains alive in each one." - Yhatzee Crosshaw

Re: Who is "Charlie"?
That's not Charlie. Check the second to last panel of the most recent page - I don't think there's more than one Charlie. We haven't seen him yet and I don't think we're going to.

Re: Who is "Charlie"?
Yeah, I know. I'm pretty sure Maerad was talking about the unipegataur(s) seen in the last couple of comics. Charlie is not a unipegataur.

Re: Who is "Charlie"?
It's a Unicorn crossed with an Angel, made out of chocolate.
It's Charlie! If you find yourself watching Power Rangers and wonder how some characters got their powers and zords back for an anniversary episode, just assume they were restored off screen. They have 20+ seasons of team geniuses to call on.

Heh heh, Charlie... I'm guessing Leader of Angels....
I'm VERY busy due to real life and whatnot, so I'm taking a break from all WWs and SGs. I should have warned y'all beforehand, and I apologize if I've inconvenienced any of you due to my many autolynches. I really should have stated how busy my life is.

Re: Who is "Charlie"?
Did anyone ever see him in the series ?
I must admit that the Unipegataur was an answer to this thread probably, while the originally intended Charlie was the Archons' boss. We never saw any reference to the the unipegataurs before that strip (unlike orlies, gwiffins and doom bats)
Side issue...the archons seem to be quite expensive (otherwise Ansom would have them with his army by default) and they seem to take single missions and not major wars. They were not accounted during the plan presentation. They do seem to be at least a decent opponent to a pack of Dwagons. They also seem like being capable of some sort of teleportation (they reached the incursion group before Ansom). The teleportation part makes it difficult for Stanley's lookamancers to foresee their arrival.
What if Ansom, who has Planning as one of his main feats (see the quote) has been preparing for this ? Jillian escaping one day after being captured is highly suspect IMO and he is aware that this could be a trap - so he decides to turn it to his advantage - hire the most expensive, powerful yet undetectable mercenary troops to face Ansom's dwagons ?
He did contact Charlie before receiving Jillian's note, however the precise mission orders were only given after. Sounds to me like a careful plan, that takes into account Stanley's superiority in recon (Stanley knows for instance Ansom has massed his flyers)

"I would rather face enemy forces in the open, than to pry them out of those defenses."
Ansom might be thinking that Stanley is walking into his trap....

Re: Who is "Charlie"?
Charlie is obviously Thog.
Seriously though, I'm guessing he's none of the above. Not sure what, yet; and I hope he never actually gets shown.
Though it would be amusing if he's just an animated speakerphone.
