I think today's Sluggy might have just made Dominic Deegan's cheekmouth look like high art. Last panel, in case you're like me and didn't even recognize what was going on at first.

Let me know if there's enough going on with this that snark is worthwhile - I might add it back into my rotation and rejoin the thread.
Hi, nice to see an familiar face again.
In regards of snark Starpower is to Dominic Deegan what coffee is to crack cocaine. It's okay, but won't give to the same high. The new format forces Mookie to a more condensed story telling, and it seems having a second person to work with improved the editing. Not really good, but solid.

Also: huh. That comic you linked brought back a character that was set up 18 years ago. Sluggy Freelance has some serious pacing issues.

I semi-recently attempted to reread Sluggy Freelance from the beginning. Pete Abrams does not have a deft hand with topical humor. I forget if I stopped reading, period, at the Punyverse arc, because I knew it would have no long-term ramifications, but I did skip it for that reason.

I forget when, exactly, but around that time, I noticed that the plotting has this weird "bubble" structure, in which a few characters enter a plot, the action expands, and at the conclusion, things contract back down to the characters, who then, optionally swapping other characters in, enter a completely unrelated plot bubble.

Any given bubble has totally different genre conventions in play. (Except the puns. Puns never change.) They'll lurch from a zombie apocalypse to some light-hearted Ikea jokes to delving into a pyramid. (I don't think it happened in exactly that order.)

RSS: Literally the Only Reason I Still Read Sluggy Freelance™

Anyway, I was going to try to turn that into a jab at Star Power, but then I realized they don't do the character-shuffle thing, probably on account of, this Struggle for the Fate of the Galaxy seems to have, like, a dozen people at its core.

Counterpoint: That's kind of how these comic-book stories function.

Yeah, I guess, in the end, Garth has kind of buoyed this enterprise up into the territory of "Eh, could be better."

By the way, how do I see goals besides the next one on the Patreon? I want to know how many thousands of dollars they need a month to make The Legacy of Dominic Deegan happen.

Patreon has apparently removed the ability to view past or future goals, which is... an odd decision on their part, but Mookie recently posted that the milestone to reach for TLoDD is $3000 a month.

I think it's pretty bad, not because they made up but because this "dancing on her arm" idea raises a whole lot of problems. With very few benefits as far as I can tell...

    So far we got:
    Key of Bravery
    Key of Humility
    Key of Friendship

I hope the next key will be they Key of Stuff Happening and the Key of Payoff.

I'd say the last one was more key of knowledge than friendship.
According to the logic so far, "key of friendship" will require something like pressing three buttons at the same time to prove that people like you.

Update: Once again, this is the only pub in the area.
Also, it's nice that the characters are self aware, and know that all they have to do is wait and something will happen around them.

That was the lesson of Dominic Deegan -- people who try make plans are evil. Good people just hang out and react to whatever happens.

Unless you're First Caste -- then you are the plot!

EDIT: Also, while I like the composition of the scene, it's setting up to Shooting Superman since Danica can power-up instantaneously and is proven immune to much more powerful weapons.

    Shoot already!

Why aren't you shooting? Why aren't you pressing that trigger frantically instead of gloating? Are you just trying to give her enough time to recover from her surprise, power-up, and trounce you effortlessly once again?

Are you actually a masochist, who gets off from the humiliation of defeat?

Is that what's happening? I think that's what is happening.

Oh no that is... actually quite a cheap complaint because while she stands very weirdly you can clearly see it to the right.

Eh, yeah, it is a pretty cheap and empty update but... I am curious what exactly his plan is. "Allow us to shoot you and we will let her go"? "be our slave"? "????"

Plan? PLAN?!! We don't use the "P word" in this comic!

Seriously though, since this encounter was not planned, I think their best option is just "We're going, don't follow us or we kill the hostage"
