In defense of American TV, we got some pretty awesome toys in the 80s from those cartoons. I had Transformers, GI Joe, Laser Tag, Robotix, Mask... Maybe my parent's wallets suffered a little, but my childhood was pretty entertaining.

In further defense of American TV, the original Tom and Jerry cartoons (which i saw exclusively on TV over here), Bugs Bunny, Droopy, The Flintstones...

I can understand Random's complaint, but there has always been good stuff around, but I think it gets hidden by the merchandising sometimes.

There's always been a lot of junk as well. 95% of everyrthing and all that... There have been a number of UK cartoons that wouldn't look out of place in a Dyson.

Cry probably, but unless it's a gross-out kind of scare like Saw or Final Destination, I don't think it'll be anything amazing in the scare department.

I'm pretty sure something that is pretty recent are adult concepts in kids shows without talking down to the audience while or looking like a PSA. Like when Adventure Time explores the turmoil of losing a loved one to Alzheimer's or Steven Universes themes of identity and relationships that are just as relevant to adults as they are to kids.

No but seriously. There no gorn in Gravity Falls. There are a few instances of blood and wounds, but it's all rather minor. Anything really horrible is left up to implications.

Honestly, there wasn't anything in Gravity Falls that creeped me out as much as Cat-Steven did.

Overall, it was a pretty great show. Not quite as good as Steven Universe, but what is?

Oh, blood and wounds? Nice, I like when a cartoon isn't afraid to be mature. Steven Universe does it with the fusion comparisons/implications and I applaud the show for taking it on.

    That's part of adult fear.

Adult fear is stuff like not being able to protect or provide for the people in your care, a child in your care knowingly going into dangerous situations no matter what you do to stop them, going senile in your old age, losing a loved one to madness, a freak accident or misspoken words causing you to lose someone in your family. The realization that some people just hate someone for what and who they are. The kind of stuff with no supernatural cause, no instigator, it just happens and if it happens nothing you can do will make it better.

Gravity Falls has all of that, in addition to more violent or supernatural scares.

I've lived in Oregon for nearly my entire life and I must say, the way it's depicted in Gravity Falls is pretty accurate. The majestic wilderness and kitschy roadside attractions that can both turn sinister at the drop of a hat? Yeah, we got those. Weird stuff in the woods lurking just off the beaten path? Probably. Eldritch, Lovecraftian entities that wish to tear reality asunder? Umm... according to ORS 85.12 Title P, I'm not allowed to say anything further.

Spoilers aside, I wonder: did Rose's gem change when it became Steven? Has he demonstrated any abilities Rose didn't have? Aside from walking through the forcefield on the gem ship, and fusing with humans, which are abilities from his human side rather than augmentations to the gem.

If the gem is still Rose, then if Steven died, technically she could reform from the gem.

Rose has a lot of powers related to life--healing tears and animating plants and the like. Maybe "creating a brand new and unique life form" is the ultimate embodiment of her powers, but conversely requires her to become part of her creation?
