Default Yeti Runt - single hit die version of Frostburn Yeti

So I want a weaker version of the Yeti, and for campaign specific reasons, I'd rather have LA than extra hit die... Does this look reasonable for the LA?

    Scrawny Yeti
    • Monstrous Humanoid type
    • Cold subtype: grants immunity to cold and vulnerability to fire
    • Large
    • Speed: 40 ft land, 20 ft climb
    • Starting Ability Score Adjustments: +4 Str, +2 Con, -2 Int, +2 Wis.
    • Languages: Giant. Bonus Languages: Common, Sylvan, Goblin, Orc
    • Snowsight (Ex): A yeti can see in snow as per the snowsight spell.
    • +4 on Hide checks in snowy conditions
    • +1 natural armor
    • 2 claws (1d4 damage each)
    • Constrict (claw damage plus 1d6 cold)
    • LA: +3

That LA looks too high for what you'd get.

How much too high? In order to bring the abilities/features in line with the LA should I
    • Increase the hide in snowy conditions to +8?
    • Increase the claw attacks to 1d6 each?
    • Increase the natural armour to 2 or 3?
    • All of the above?

    Thanks for the input.

The Frostburn Yeti is stated at ECL 7 (4 Hit Die + LA 3)...

Is it really underpowered for that rating?

If not, if I really wanted to make a Yeti that was at ECL 4 (1 class level + LA 3) how much should I leave on the yeti's stat block?

Your version looks somewhere between LA +1 and LA +2; for LA +3... honestly, I might keep everything. LA is a pretty huge tradeoff.

Thank you very much... sorry to have to ask for more clarification but keep everything I listed, or everything in the Frostburn Stat block including improved grab?

I think LA+2 is a good spot to aim for. The LA+2 Half Ogre in Races of Destiny is very similar and is reasonable to use in play in many contexts, you might want to take a look at that if you're not sure of a balance point.

So with everything but the HD, I've got:

    Yeti Adolescent
    • Monstrous Humanoid type
    • Cold subtype: grants immunity to cold and vulnerability to fire
    • Large
    • Speed: 40 ft land, 20 ft climb
    • Starting Ability Score Adjustments: +8 Str, +2 Dex, +4 Con, -2 Int, +2 Wis.
    • Languages: Giant. Bonus Languages: Common, Sylvan, Goblin, Orc
    • Snowsight (Ex): A yeti can see in snow as per the snowsight spell.
    • +12 on Hide checks in snowy conditions
    • +4 natural armor
    • 2 claws (1d6 damage each)
    • Constrict (claw damage plus 2d6 cold)
    • Improved Grab (Medium or smaller creatures)
    • LA: ?(+2/+3)
