Well, I'm sure we can come up with some weird stuff of our own if we put our minds to it Name a thing you'd date, and describe the available love interests in this imaginary game.

I'll start: a dating sim where you date fighting games. Female player character, male love interests (mostly). Featuring: childhood friend Street Fighter; emo edgelord Tekken; rich kid Dead or Alive; star athlete King of Fighters; delinquent Mortal Kombat; drama geek Soul Calibur; class clown Smash Bros.; token lesbian Skullgirls; otaku Guilty Gear; and foreign transfer student Injustice.

(In about ten minutes, someone will arrive to inform me that this one already exists.)

Then, for it to be a succesful dating game, you'd need something that resonates with the demographic. For something that might actually make you money, maybe a youtuber dating game. Propably already been done.

The Gym Leader (careful about trying to get them, they're known to have a type) Nurse Joy, a pokemon breeder (ironically they're so busy playing matchmaker between pokemon that its hard to make them see your feelings for them), a battle happy black-belt, a crazy hex maniac, kuudere Coordinator, a yandere collector, or finally the champion option: Cynthia (shes out of your league)

-either one of as a human or pokemon disguising themselves as the other and the game finale being the reveal that your a human to the pokemon or a pokemon to the human.

Harry Dresden Dating Sim:
you are Harry Dresden, you have been trapped in a strange place in the Nevernever where various women through your life reappear to try and date you. you could either play it as a legit dating sim and get an ending with any of the women Harry has met throughout his life, or you can play it as a mystery game and solve it like a detective like harry would and shatter the illusion to go back to the real world and Maggie, his daughter. on second thought, this doesn't sound so dumb and actually sounds pretty awesome.

Gundam Dating Sim:
you are a pilot and you date the gundams. no not other pilots, the gundams themselves, not anthropomorphic at all. complete with a normal zaku option who feels inadequate and weak compared to all the rest.

Warhammer 40k Dating sim:
you are the God Emperor of Mankind and you must find a wife. Your options are: A normal guardswoman. a tech priest with lots of extra arms, A tau fire warrior, A Sister of battle, an Eldar Solitaire, a chaos space marine made female by the ruinous powers, Ork Warlord Rokslata biggest and baddest ork of his segmentum, a Necron, Uriah Olathaire returned from the dead, the Tyranid Hive mind, or Khorne.

Shonen Protag Dating Sim:
your female and your options for romance are: Naruto, Luffy, Goku, Ichigo, Edward Elric, Ash Ketchum, Saitama, Gon, Natsu Dragneel, and Izuku Midoriya. Good luck getting ANY of them to notice you romantically.

To be serious for a second, I actually want to make a game at some point that takes place after the typical dating sim. At the beginning, you choose your waifu/husbando from a list. Congratulations! You've won their heart--but now, can you keep it? Can you make the relationship last? Even once you start really getting to know them and find out all the ways they don't live up to the idealized fantasy you had in mind when you chose their route?

• Historical Figures: You play a time traveler, juggling both relationships with notable historical figures and the burden of trying not to change history with these relationships. Then you just need a scientist, explorer, military leader, political leader, and artist from every period, to nicely fill out the dating sim stereotypes. Bonus points for marketing this as edutainment.
• Time Travelers: Alternately, you can play that backwards - instead of traveling through time, you play an ordinary character who appears to live in interesting times - that's why all these time travelers keep showing up from different times in the future. They don't know anybody, and they certainly aren't dating anyone - and that makes them perfect characters for a dating sim.
• Disney Princesses: On the more marketable side (and the getting hit with cease and desist letters really fast side), it's worth noting that there is a modern collection of characters, most of whom are in stories which center romance at least somewhat. They're familiar, they're characterized, they're fun and colorful, and they would work just fine for this.
• Anthropomorphic Bicycles: This list needed something a little crazy, and this is it. It also works - you've got the adventurous mountain bike, always off in nature getting into trouble. You've got the steadfast commuter bike, quiet and conservative*; there's also it's slightly wilder brother in the road bike. There's the simple fixed gear, who's not the brightest or most capable, but is way lower maintenance. There's the BMX (the troublemaker pulling dumb stunts who's basically the mountain bike but less reliable and more wild), the recumbent (the super lazy one with more personality than the fixed gear), the racing bike with no breaks (the speed freak athlete), and even a cargo bike(physically large and muscular, a bit quirky). Then there's the numerous puns involving brand names like Trek, Raleigh, and Specialized.

*In a personal sense, not a political one - that's probably best left ambiguous.
