Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
Fun Fact: You was the plural form, which was used as a formal singular form in some cases. It was also objective, thee was the singular form. Thou was nominative, and had ye as a plural/formal form.
Also, ye ≠ þe. They just looked similar enough in some cases to be interchangeable.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
1) I think you verified my claim of 'you' as formal as legit, with additional information that it's also a workable plural word, so that's good. And if 'thou' was nominative, nominative statements are for the most part meant to be informal, They seem to be sort of a declaraton (Thou ate(est) the cake!) so that's not too bad.
2) When am I ever going to use 'þe'? How do you even pronounce that symbol?Dark Souls Remake in a Nutshell

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
1) You was primarily plural, yes. I was simply expanding upon your statement. And nominative isn't informal at all, contrast I (nominative) and me (objective), and they (nominative) and them (objective).
With these forms, we get:
{table=head]Nominative|Objective
I ate the cake.|The cake ate me.
They ate the cake.|The cake ate them.
Thou ate the cake.|The cake ate thee.
Ye ate the cake.|The cake ate you.[/table]
You can see the differences in both meaning and structure when using the nominative and objective forms.
2) Þ corresponds to the modern dipgraph th. So þe is now the. It's a common error among people attempting to use Middle English to use ye as a substitute for the.Last edited by Keris; 2009-06-05 at 04:32 PM.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
And then what happened was because the "you" was the polite term (Like tu and vous in french, vous can be used as a polite singular) "thou" eventually become the impolite term and dropped out of common usage at some point.
At least, I think that's how it went...
Interesting random thing that has to do with pronouns! Have you noticed how "they" is being used as a neuter "he/she" when talking about people? Which is funny, because "it" technically applies to people too.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
Or it ends a lot more randomly
Comic 218 is up. I keep thinking its 219 for some reason.
And on the bright side, the archives are up-to-date, and I fix'd a consistency error with 212 and 217.

"He makes the Shades look weak"? Did the Shades even exist back then, or are you refering to something other then the ABR Shades?

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
WTwU takes place 4000ish years before FFF and the shades are apparently 5500ish years old. You bet they're around.
Although in this time period, the Shades are actually residing in the pits for their own protection.
Comic 221 is up. The fallout of what just happened.

That's why my greatest fear is becoming omnipotent.
Actually, the Shades as we know them appeared in 861 AC. They were originally an ooze used to empower demon lord Arnas' obyrith soldiers.Last edited by Mad Mask; 2009-06-16 at 05:42 PM.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
I don't understand why that would be so confusing. Xeno was able to guess that Rand fears losing his tail, that Torn is afriad of kobolds, and that the princess fears undead, but not that Kay might be afriad of dragons? I don't think that's a very big strech of imagination. Dragons can be pretty scary, I would guess.
