Halden looks around at his companions in the kitchen and shakes his head sadly.

"I fear I may be losing my mind. Things are not as I think they are here. All I can think of to do is to begin my research, and hope it bares fruit before I reach the point of oblivion."

Halden doesn't seem to realise he's not making much sense. He retrieves his briefcase from under the kitchen table and flips it open. From inside he fishes out a tape recorder and a candle. Lighting the candle, he sets the tape recorder up next to it and turns it onto record. Halden sits down and closes his eyes and starts to mutter under his breath.

((While Halden begins his ritual I'll point at Fleeing Coward, I feel more comfortable when he's throwing around wild conspiracy theories than when he's quiet like this. ))

"GO AWAY!" Kailassa screams at the howling voice, stomping her foot within her impregnable couch-fort. Looking around, she holds her hand to either temple and seems to squeeze, keeping up the pressure for a few seconds before releasing and collapsing to the floor, moaning slightly.

"... hey... I have an idea... lets all just sleep during the day... its more peaceful... hmmm?"

Martin groans as he sleeps off his work-filled night. And he dreams. He dreams of an ancient past, of a sword, of a staff… and of a book, around which all else revolves. And he dreams. And time passes…

The elderly man looks around, trying to judge the peoples faces... there expression.. the slightest relief from the night horrors.
"I can't agree with you, m'lady... if you sleep during the day, you will see the phantoms in full view... they are things of horror... sleep through the night, survive the day."
he tell Kailassa, and then keeps looking at people faces... he sees that man (Fleeing Coward) looking all funny... he must be a fear.

Darkness all around. His eyes unused to it, Julian looks around, trying to spot a switch with which to turn the light on, but of course finds none. As he tries to find something with his fingers, the light suddenly comes on on itself, shining brightly, almost blinding him. As his eyes adjust to the light, he sees a bizzare sight before him. There he is, standing and before him, he sees a mass of people. Some known to him, most not. They do have one thing in common, however. All of them are looking at him, hate and disdain in their eyes. As he walks around, most people turn around, obviously not deeming him worthy of second look. However, few of them do deem him worth of second look and even more! Some of them point at him, obviously making him responsible for bad things happening, like their daughter making suicide of broken heart. A heart that he broke. Others, for their daughter running of and ending up as a junkie, washed out and broken, begging cash at the train station. Even though they don't say anything, he can feel it.

So many lifes broken, so many threads ended. Did he really caused all that suffering? Was he really the loathsome beast that he was presented as, that these people saw him as? As he walks further, more and more fingers point at him, giving him an uneasy feeling that something bad is going to happen. And true enought, as he continues walking this way for god knows how long, he sees a gallows rising up in front of him, getting bigger with every step. He tries to turn around, but his legs don't obey him. As this continues, he walks on and on, people pointing at him, now chanting his name, with hate and loathing, obviously pleased at his terror.

After what seems like an hours of forced march, he finally arrives at gallows and stops there, feeling like wearing cement boots now, being unable to move. A rope drops around his neck and as he looks to the crowd, he sees two familiar faces, looking back at him. Marian, looking at him, eyes filled with tears. Tears of sadness and hate. Turning to Casey next to her, who is holding a beautiful baby girl in her hands, probably only few months old, they both give him an evil smile.

“You toyed with us Jules. Now it's our turn!“

Rising the baby high in the air, she says to her:

“Take a good, long look at your good for nothing daddy, sweetheart. It will be the last you ever see of him.“

As she takes baby back in her arms, Julian can't help but scream:

“Marian, Casey, for Pete's sake, help me! Don't let me die like a dog!“

Smiling at him, one last time, Marian says to him:

“But you are a dog, Julian. A stray dog. And you shall die as such, alone and forgotten by everybody.“

With that, the trap door open and he falls, the noose tightening around his neck. He grabs his neck, trying to break the bond of the rope, trying to get free, in vain attempt to change something. After a few seconds, his moves get slower and his hands fall limply at his side, darkness once again taking him...

Only to be awaken in bed, next to Casey, who is still sleeping from the looks of it. Wiping his brow, he looks over her and can't resist but admire how beautiful she looks. It's hard to believe she would be the one who gave him such a scare in his dreams. But then, did she say anything that wasn't true?

Am I really a monster? Am I really dying like this? No, not if I can help it!

Removing a stray lock of hair from Casey's face with his finger, he leans over her and gives her the slightest kiss on the cheek, hoping not to wake her up. He then sits up on the bed, turning his back to her and starts putting his clothes on.

Guess I just can't win - Mordokai complains about my conspiracy theories and Banjo complains when I'm quiet (which I pointed out is due to the exam period). A few random points and suddenly a bandwagon starts probably propelled by the real fears.
Defensive point against Griever for survival more than anything else.

Sorry for the late update, we are currently experiencing technical difficulties. No worries though, everything's shiny now...

Bryan Talman wakes up yawning after what was probably his first restful night here. Wondering if the Charismatic Magician had made any progress Bryan makes his way to the library. Looking in, he catches Eric just as he enters via the secret passage. "Where's Mr. M?" Bryan asks beginning to worry. Seeing Eric shrug, Bryan begins to panic. "Spread out and find him. And pray that the fears didn't get to him."

Bryan starts dashing from room to room looking for the Magician. Finally Bryan spots him lying face down in the main room with notes in hand. Quickly checking for a pulse, Bryan sighs from relief. "Just exhausted," he thinks to himself. Gathering the Magician up, Bryan takes him and lies him down in the main bed. Bryan gets some water and sets it by the bedside before sitting down across from him. Opening the journal the Magician had, Bryan begins to read it. "You wouldn't happen to have written down something of use in here, would you?" Bryan whispers almost to himself as he desperately searches the book for clues...

The words on the page are written in a neat but cramped script. They seem relatively mundane, detailing a day of reading through the books in the library. However, looking at them from the corner of your eye, the words seem to twist and writhe – almost as if they're trying to escape the page. But as soon as you look directly at them, they are still, as if nothing has happened. And probably, nothing has. Except… except you can't be quite sure…

Martin slides out of his dream with a jolt. His eyes slowly slide open, and focus on the world around him. He's back in his bed – Bryan must have carried him there. Bryan was a nice fellow, and Martin decided that he had to get to know Bryan better… Bryan, who was sitting on the foot of his bed… Bryan, who was reading the journal… the journal!…
Martin sits upwards, yanking the book out of Bryan's hand. "BYALLTHATISHOLYDON'TTOUCHTHAT!" He sits there, clutching the journal to his chest, and looks visibly shaken – though if it's from the dream, from the journal, or from the events of the last few days finally taking their toll, it's hard to tell. "I'm sorry. I…" He takes a deep breath in, and lets it out – though the breath seems to shake as it's expelled. "I – I don't know what came over me. It's just… I don't know anymore." He smiles, hopefully. "Well, I'm awake now. Shall we head off to the library?"

Bryan looked up when the journal was snatched from his hands, shocked. Something about the book seemed odd and yet, enticing. Standing up, Bryan says quietly, "If... if you're up to it." Following the Magician out, Bryan falls into deep thought.

"He's hiding something," Bryan thinks to himself.

"Or protecting something. Maybe protecting me?"

"That makes little sense. Why would it be unsafe for you, but safe for him? You should find out. Maybe when he's not looking."

"No. I want to trust him for now. He may be able to help all of us."

"Maybe. But I bet you're far too curious to leave it alone forever. Especially if this doesn't work."

"Perhaps... Let's see what happens first before deciding. If this proves fruitless, we could take another peek at it."

'How to make a pulley out of old household items." As Bryan and Martin enter the library, they see Eric sitting on a ladder, leaned against one of the bookcases, reading. Noticing their arrival, Eric looks up, smiles, and slides down the ladder. "There you are Martin! I was worried that the manor had taken you. Hi Bryan, nice to see you. Well, shall we get started in finding the book?"

Casey tosses fitfully on the thin mattress, one hand under the pillow, clutching the knife she took from the kitchen. She, too, is in the grips of a nightmare, one that is all too familiar. A part of her even realizes that she is dreaming, but she is unable to force her eyes open until The Dream draws to its horrifying conclusion. The mere image of Kevin's face is painful, even without what comes next. She is doomed to fail him again over and over, and only when rough hands have once more pulled her from his small, still form, does she wake, sweaty and sobbing.

Not that waking is any better than a nightmare really. As she collects herself she can’t help but shudder at the fresh blood on top of the old stain where the knives protrude from the floor.

She reaches out, and hesitantly touches Julian’s arm. “You’re still here. I’m glad.”

“Jules, I don’t think I can stand this room much longer. I need to get out of here.”

The housecat wanders up to the mainroom's armchair and begins to rake its claws down the side of it letting off a very tired meow.
