Re: Planar Olympics (IC)
[spoiler]1.
A base attack bonus is an attack roll bonus derived from character class and level or creature type and Hit Dice (or combinations thereof). Base attack bonuses increase at different rates for different character classes and creature types. A second attack is gained when a base attack bonus reaches +6, a third with a base attack bonus of +11 or higher, and a fourth with a base attack bonus of +16 or higher. Base attack bonuses gained from different sources, such as when a character is a multiclass character, stack.
2. Erm....... I'll get back to you

SpoilerIn interest of lessening the work load for you, I would do it. But for fear of mussing it up and knowing/thinking I'm not too good at event description, methinks I'll just give you the time to do it. Take your time, I'm a patient guy.

Rat initiative - (1d20+4)[5]
Your Initiative - (1d20+2)[20]
The rat bounces once as it is tossed in, and is promptly smacked through the air. It now twitches feebly in a broken heap.
"Congratulations to our newest champion!" the referee says. "Do you want to keep the rat as a trophy or take a commemorative dart?"
Cac-Kt
Random Fate - (1d100)[64]
At a command from the magistrate two guards step up to block your way. "You are confined to the property until the end of the meeting. You can collect your gold to redeem your ring afterward. The meeting starts in a little more than an hour: I suggest you spend your time either in the library, permit office, or on the porch. Gall here will be your patrol officer. Do not stray more than 15 ft from him until the meeting begins."
'Gall' is a hobgoblin in scale armor.

Re: Planar Olympics (IC)
((Ok a quick update so the game won't stall, sorry Cleric the description still isn't up. Maybe next update.))
@ Curtis:
Much better, but we still aren't playing with flaws.
Alexis
"Sorry mis" The master of the event says as he leads you out of the areana and another worker removes the limp rat. "We don't have a limitless supply of rats. Now, just sign here if you wish to enlist in the Grand Melee or here if you'd rather just take a free viewing pass. Oh, and here is your dart."
Cac-kt
"The permit office is where applications for restricted matterials are made, the library has history and legal records, and the porch is always an interesting place to watch other people. I can take you to any of these places." Gall says as he motions for you to follow him out of the hall of judgment.

Marvelous! Now about the attack: a +6 BAB does give you 2 attacks, but only the first is at +6, the second is at +1.
So, name any buffs you cast before getting in line and lets try this round again.

Re: Planar Olympics (IC)
Leosera:
((If you wish you may move on with the fair even though the fluff still isn't finished.))
Spoiler
((First third of the promised ballad. Apologies that it still isn't done. Further apologies for any cadence issues.))
You are ushered into an airy pavilion. Instead of chairs the patrons have their choice of hide covered benches or fluffy cushions on the floor. Cool water is complimentary as is a small loaf of spice bread. Wine, cheese, and fruit are available for extra (1gp small serving, 5gp platter). Perhaps 35 others join you in the pavilion to watch the coming show. Most are human, but there is a smattering of other humanoids, including one ornately clad cloud giant under the effects of a compression spell.
Before you stands a low wooden platform, with curtains on the three sides not facing the audience. A bard comes out and sits on the edge of it holding a beautiful stringed instrument. For several minutes he plays a slow wistfully melody as a two more stragglers enter and are seated in the back.
"A tale you wish to hear I see." The bard suddenly begins. "A tale you shall receive, no it is more than a tale." He continues slowly still playing. "An epic ballad of valor with as much lore as glamor you shall hear, and even see. The Battle of Nail Hill we now present to thee!"
At this point the bard suddenly stands and tosses his instrument aside, but the music does not end: a drum and lonely woodwind off stage start their own haunting melody.
"Nail hill, you must understand, was more than a simple, single, hill: greater still than its old iron mine, for gold struck and rubies were found, thin yet assuredly there. All this that stood below the Humnaheims, that dwarven realm of the Emerald Mountains tall and above the rocky Gnarlwood forest that BloodFist, the goblin chieftain king, had claimed. For years a human buffer town lived between the foes, and hilltop tower built as well. But! when the pox came through and men moved on that hill, tower crowned, stood on. Contested ground it surely was and those goblins moved in quick, but with gold at stake and an encroaching foe the dwarves could not look mildly on: A dwarf march took war to old nail hill."
Alexis:
Magical and Mundane combat are lumped together this year. I'll worry about the exciting random event latter, for now you find yourself standing in front of a sign:
Henry's Obstacle Tower: Fame at the Top!A line for both viewing and competing stands by the door.
Try for 4sp or view for 2cp!
Grand Prizes: Free Attendance or Participation at Olympic Trial Obstacle Courses plus commemorative dart.
Standard Prize: Dart only.
Grand prize awarded for reaching top within 30 seconds, standard for completing course in 50 seconds. Limit one prize per individual. Maximum 2 tries allowed to achieve grand prize. Viewing limited to two attempts per purchase.Last edited by Psionic Dog; 2008-08-27 at 09:08 PM.

Enraptured by the bard's performance Leos watches on, leaning forward, wide eyed and smiling.
He quietly ushers one of the servers over and purchases a small serving of the fancy snacks. (Having already eaten and drank his complimentaries.) Paying the 1gp, and a 3 silver tip for the cute waitress, he turns his attention back to the performer.
"Interesting. I can scarcely wait to hear how it turned out. I should remember what I can to regale the others back home."

Cac-kt:
"What does being a 'giant bug' have to do with poison?"
Hallia:
Alright, I can take you're last rolls using corrected modifiers.
Spoiler
The rat snaps at you as you step close, but misses.
*whoosh*
Unfortunately, with a -4 non-proficiency you're first swing misses completely.
*whoosh* as does your second swing when we add in -5 for secondary swings.
-Round 2-
The rat, still fighting defensively, makes a tentative nip that fails miserably earning you a free AoO. You're next two sings miss as well.
Roll and AoO: if it takes out the rat, good! You'll be registered for melee, otherwise you'll have to come back to try try again later if you still want to compete in that event.

Re: Planar Olympics (IC)
Hallia
Spoiler
It's a lonnng fight: the rat alternates between attacking you and trying to flee, but mostly dodges your attacks. Eventually, the whistle is blown with you never hitting the rat. Also, unless a 15 hits you for 3 damage, the rat never landed a return blow either.
You have one more try for melee qualification left. The fair will continue accepting qualifications for the next two days so you can replan before returning.
Alexis
Spoiler
Actually, you need 2 checks to cross each obstacle at normal movement rate: Each climbing wall is 15 ft: 15/ (0.25 * 40) = 1.5, or 2 checks. The balance section is 30 ft: 30 / (40 * .5) = 1.5, or 2 checks.
Anyway, you fail the second check on obstacle #3 and the first check at obstacle #4. Since the failure is less than 5 you merely don't make progress instead of falling back to the bottom, but I still need replacement checks for those.
Also: does a (1d20+7)[13] hit? Give yourself a +2 AC bonus for knowing it's there. If it connects, take (2d6)[4] subdual damage and fall to the bottom of obstacle #4 if a (1d20+2)[21] exceeds your strength role.
Cac-kt
The guard frowns slightly at you and thinks a bit.

Re: Planar Olympics (IC)
Alexis:
SpoilerActually, believe it or not, time hasn't expired yet on you. You had 30 seconds, 5 rounds, 10 move actions.
Time to cross obstacle #1: 0.75 move actions.
Time to cross obstacle #2: 1.5 move actions.
Rounded time for first two obstacles: 2 move actions.
Time to cross obstacle #3: 3 move actions.
Time Spent to date attempting obstacle #3: 4 move actions (one of which succeeded)
Total time Spent: 27 seconds (9 move actions)
Time left: 3 seconds (one move action)
Checks remaining: 1
If you make a DC 15 you win the grand prize be the smallest possible margin...
Fail and you win Try #2 with about 6 seconds to spare (1.5 rounds for the buffing, 2.5 rounds of moving), unless a Nat 20 hit - (1d20)[4] bops you off the wall with a (1d20+2)[17] in which case you still win, but only by 3 seconds.

SpoilerThe buffs for the second run are cast before the timer starts. They've all got a duration longer than ten minutes. Even if she succeeds, she refuses to win by such a narrow margin. She needs to prove to herself that she didn't just win by luck.
