I found a mod that lets you replace all instances of the reguler theme with that one, then I took an arrow in the knee.

Actually, it's not quite like that. The Empire agreed to the terms, but did little to enforce them. As Alvor states, everyone still kept little shrines to Talos and the Empire did nothing to stop it, the just banned public worship. They never could stamp out Daedra worship or necromancy, either, so why both trying to hunt Talos believers? Then Ulfric starts spouting off and the Thalmor turn to the Empire and say "if you're not going to do anything, we are" and the witch hunts begin.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - the Stormcloaks accomplish nothing and only make the situation worse for their own people on just about every front. Without the Dragonborn's aid, at least.

I think there should have been some way to take over skyrim (like fallout new vegas), similar to how the empire was first founded by a dragonborn. I could just see a series of quests where you get the support of the jarls to be elected high king.

Say, I had a quick question: Is vampirism worth it? Worth the downsides, I mean? I'm playing a greatsword-swinging, bow-shooting, stealthy Nord, if it makes a difference.

If you think it will fit your character I would say go for it. Personally I've found vampire a complete hassle, with none of the 'advantages' being all too useful or apparent.

My experience is that it's not worth the hassle. No stamina regen in daylight makes travel a pain. You could mitigate it via alchemy, but that just adds another chore to compensate vampirism. Having to find a victim every few days, while easy, gets pretty tedious. Oh, and you can get one-shot by fireballs.

In exchange you get a nice-but-not-great boost to stealth and illusion, frost resist and a couple of powers that don't see very much use. There's also poison/disease immunity, which is actually pretty nice.

So yeah. Fluffy, but quite a hassle in the end.
    Truth resists simplicity.

Lycanthropy is better IMO, since I already use the lovers stone so losing the rested bonus is pointless and the form is great for overland travel.

Vampirism benefits stealth and occasionally magic based characters. The cold resistance is less useful on Nords, and the reduced health/stamina is poor for melee characters during daylight.

On the other hand, Lycanthropy does nothing after level 30 or so so I'd suggest you avoid keeping either of them on that character.

Also, using the Lover's Stone doesn't render the Rested Bonus pointless. How does that make any sense? The bonuses aren't mutually exclusive...

Except making you immune to diseases and giving you the ability to sprint at high speed for 2.5 minutes per day.

Yes they are. They don't stack just like you don't get the rested bonus to the skills that the warrior/mage/thief stones boost if you're carrying one of those.

Though really, I would have loved to have that in there. Heck, I am going to attempt to join both factions and see how that works out. If not possible, I will hunt for mods that make it possible. Double agent stuff is my kinda deal (it is what I'm doing with all the other factions and a lot of misc quests as well so yeah).

Play up the Empire and Stormcloaks against one another, then have them realize that they share some goals:
    Spoiler
    Show
if the Empire were not secretly ruled by the Thalmor, they would be more than happy to have their first Emperor be worshipped as a hero god by the Nords. If the Nords would be willing to accept the major laws of the Empire, the most important ones, I could see it working out. That way the laws are relatively the same over the whole Empire so that people don't have to adept to radically different laws when crossing the border. Plus, they would realize that they have a common enemy in the Thalmor and that the Dunmer are not a part of that and many people in the Aldmeri Dominion are also not in favour of the Thalmor. It could go a long way in re-igniting a war with the Aldmeri Dominion, but with a united Empire rather than one on the verge of splitting up.

After that, the Empire could prolly work in getting Hammerfell back as well officially, ignite rebellion in the Aldmeri Dominion like the Thalmor did in Skyrim and so on. I actually got all dreamy about using all the factions in the game to put them in various roles with the Dragonborn as the leader of all of them: the Dark Brotherhood as High King Dovahkiin's personal assassins. The Thieves' Guild turned into a legitimate business, reinvigorating Riften and making it flourish, as well as the rest of Skyrim, make magic more commonly accepted and practiced in Skyrim, get yourself a small army of werewolves and so on.

Heck, I'm sure that the Forsaken could somehow be made to be the Thalmor's most fiersome enemies. Send some of those and the Dark Brotherhood to teach the Khajit and Bosmer and rebellion could likely be easily made to rise up. Ulfric prolly could serve a much better purpose that way as well, if you'd let him live.

Get a Dragon Priest to mind control him.

Or just kill him. I don't care about him really. The other Jarls are much more likeable. Heck, most of the thieves and some of the Dark Brotherhood are more likeable.

Also, I am kind of sad there is already a new thread posted (so hasty!). I kind of had prepped a post so that the first post of the new thread would have links to a bunch of cool mods and so I could update it with more of that kind of stuff. (I always like it when the first post of a big thread-chain like these has a bunch of cool stuff in it rather than a single sentence.)

I do love how easily a discussion about the game boils down to the politics between the stormcloaks and the imperials.
I bet the people at Bethesda is giggling in delight over this since it's proof that they've really managed to make a game which people are passionate about.
