Re: My Little Pony XXXXIIII: This Thread is Going to be Perfect!
And Rainbow says "In the name of Celestia, just sit there and do nothing" in Last Round Up
I'm well aware. And that proves she's a god and not just a creature of immense respect HOW? Keep in mind, this is a kid's show, but using phrases like 'Thank god' are a part of language and as such they needed something to act as a stand-in. It doesn't Celestia's a god. That's just something the fans use to explain it.
So yeah, it IS 'just fanon'

Re: My Little Pony XXXXIIII: This Thread is Going to be Perfect!
We have two of the biggest holidays revolving around her or her sister, they are immortal, people use their names as they do God in RL, they literally power the cosmos.
Whether she is a "god" in some sort of Earth sense isn't really the issue. In Equestria she serves all of the functions of one. Also, any discussion about anything to do with the story except "I like this" or "I didn't like this" boils down to fanon.

Re: My Little Pony XXXXIIII: This Thread is Going to be Perfect!
well...
I suppose the simplest explanation is that ponies have no concept of religion and therefore simply swear by the most powerful force of good they know.
Even discord is simply "spirit" of disharmony."Winning with friendship means winning at life!"

Re: My Little Pony XXXXIIII: This Thread is Going to be Perfect!
You know, between this, everything Bronies for Good does, The "buy ad space on the Hub for a thank you message campaign", and the assorted other fundraising campaigns that have appeared on EqD I kind of feel like I don't wanted to be targeted for fundraising any more. Obviously others feel differently and I've given before, but I'm started to feel a little burned out on it. It's one thing when it's a charity, but the documentary and Hub thank you campaign are just brony vanity projects.
Adoption, obviously.
Also, what kind of moment of self discovery leads to three rocks as a Cutie Mark? At least Rarity got SHINY rocks.
I imagine it's difficult to feel the need to create a supernatural explanation for natural phenomena when you can manipulate and control said phenomena directly. Now we should probably drop pony religion discussion before it turns into real life religion discussion.Last edited by Eakin; 2012-05-14 at 07:32 PM.

Re: My Little Pony XXXXIIII: This Thread is Going to be Perfect!
Hmm, I have mixed feelings on this. It could be really cool if the quality is high enough, but I'd prefer this was being done by someone outside the community. As is, it sort of seems like it's going to end up being selectively biased towards bronies just as much as traditional media is biased against. I'm not really a fan of balancing misinformation with opposite misinformation. In addition, I'd like to know whether Hasbro and the Bronycon guests have a stance on this and some info about the backgrounds of the crew other than De Lancie before giving them any money.
They cause joy to most everyone that posts here, and they still cause you joy indirectly since you like participating in the conversation here and reading the fan works.
Okay yeah, this has got to be right. Plus Rarity has the most over the top delivery. As for your scanner, do you have a public library near you? They might have a scanner you could use.
Wait a second. If I move three rocks into the same field, I can farm rocks three times as quickly. I'm a genius!"

Re: My Little Pony XXXXIIII: This Thread is Going to be Perfect!
Nah, he'd get bored without anypony to screw around with. Can't see Loki sticking around long enough to actually raise her as a normal pony.
Also, that picture always makes me wonder why his front legs are so much longer than the back ones. I know it's just how he's standing but the stance just seems off to me.
EDIT: Oh right, I was doing a THING today. Uh, I swear by the power of Amanda Courcy, Associate Sales Planner of Gum at Kraft Foods that Loki would never raise Pinkie as his own.
Seriously people, don't make your LinkedIn profile visible from Google, that should be common sense.Last edited by Eakin; 2012-05-14 at 08:21 PM.

If brute force isn't working, that just means you're not using enough of it.

Re: My Little Pony XXXXIIII: This Thread is Going to be Perfect!
I could be petty and point out that we don't know they're immortal, we only know they are extremely old... but that would be petty
So instead I'll point out:
1) People have holidays surrounding them all the time. Heck, so do events. That doesn't mean they're gods, it just means people LIKE them.
2)[Censored for pettiness]
3) They move the sun and moon. That's IT. We don't even know if they're the same sun and moon - ie, a massive ball of gas and a massive ball of dust. Episode 1's 'stars shall aid in her escape' sequence pretty much proves the stars aren't suns. Heck, ordinary unicorns used to raise the sun and moon.
... I think i've switched points mid-argument again >.>
Whether she is a "god" in some sort of Earth sense isn't really the issue. In Equestria she serves all of the functions of one.
"By god"
"By george"
etc etc.
Also, any discussion about anything to do with the story except "I like this" or "I didn't like this" boils down to fanon.

Re: My Little Pony XXXXIIII: This Thread is Going to be Perfect!
Random question. How do you get links for long YouTube videos so that they start at a particular spot in the middle like the one you just did?
The state of canon is that we don't know for certain. However, several pieces of canon imply strongly that Celestia and Luna are deities. This includes the level of reverence they receive from the local populations, their long lives, their control over Celestial bodies, and the use of Celestia's name in several oaths traditionally reserved for god.
So, it is a correct statement to say that canon strongly implies that Luna and Celestia are deities without 100% confirming it.
