Re: D&D Demotivators Episode VI: Return of the JPEG
*Geek mode activated*
"The Star Wars ships are supposedly just firing very high powered lasers for their primary beam weapons."
Actually, they're shooting ionized gas encased in magnetic casing; the same sort of thing that Lightsabers are (and why Lightsabers can deflect blaster bolts). So, plasma, essentially. No idea why they called them Turbolasers.
"In one TNG episode they are being threatened by a ship armed with lasers and they note that lasers wouldn't even be able to penetrate their navigational shield let alone the one they use for actual fighting."
I believe this is a no-limits fallacy, my friend. Bulletproof glass may stop regular bullets, but it won't stop a railgun.
... And now I owe lurker tax and off-topic tax. Why I get myself into this sort of thing, I'l never know.

Re: D&D Demotivators Episode VI: Return of the JPEG
Which makes things even worse. Plasma can be directed/contained using magnetic fields (which is how a light sabre works) which makes them a terrible weapon against ships which, presumably, are able to create a magnetic field to protect themselves.
I suppose they are called Turbo lasers for a similar reason to why photon torpedoes are named as such - despite the fact that they use an anti-matter warhead and not photons.

Re: D&D Demotivators Episode VI: Return of the JPEG
I cannot /begin/ to agree more. It was a ridiculous thread, all these issues were brought up and discussed, and everyone parted on amicable terms except the people who were unpleasant about things. Please for the love of whatever you hold dear, don't drag that mess in here. I only just escaped. T~T
And yes, I was the OP of that thread. And I can dig up a link if you /really/ care that much. But this is a thread for posters, not Warhammer vs. ST vs. SW.
Let there be posters.

Hey! Stay on topic! I have images from Cyriak, and I'm not afraid to use 'em!
I use braces (also known as "curly brackets") to indicate sarcasm. If there are none present, I probably believe what I am saying; should it turn out to be inaccurate trivia, please tell me rather than trying to play along with an apparent joke I don't know I'm making.

As a film, it's OK. As a D&D film? That leaves much to be desired.Open the lid and snatch a homebrewed treat from Cookie's Jar
