Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
FWIW, I think what was being suggested was more alone the lines of this: a new band comes along whose music is pretty obviously on the extremely hard side, and someone who doesn't like their music and also doesn't like bands whose music is generally considered Metalcore might well label that band as Metalcore. Whereas a person who didn't like Metalcore in general but did like that particular band might label them as working in some other sub-genre that the person generally liked.
To put it another way, using your example of rap, I'm sure that you can find people whose attitude towards certain music is, "Uh, yuk, rap" or even, "that's just rap, it's not even real music". And the music in question might not even be what most people would consider rap, but the people who don't like it just toss it in with other music they don't like.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
If anyone's looking for a strange not-quite-electronica, I would recommend Blue Sky Black Death. It's a very ... trippy experience in music. It's what I usually listen to when I need to calm or relax.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Interesting choice. A wee bit like this piece from Solid State Society soundtrack (relevant part starts at 1:54). Yoko Kanno made many great songs for GiTS in general (like this one).
On the other hand, trippy is not the word I'd use to describe this music. Compare to these: Maja Ratkje, Else Marie Pade, White Noise (a band Delia Derbishire was in for a while). Pieces like Pimpf look tame in comparison. In a war it doesn't matter who's right, only who's left.

Good one - that I am sure of. Greatest? Difficult to judge.
Also: Biff Rose and Tiny Tim again (lyrics on both pieces are very interesting).
edit: other flavor of trippy.Last edited by Radar; 2012-07-16 at 03:44 PM.

This thread was dormant far too long. Ladies, gents and all the rest of you:
Charlie Musselwhite
Also some other artists:
Gryphon (check their Raindance album, if you can) and Automat (there is almost nothing else on Youtube except for the whole album)
edit: Van der Graaf for anyone interested in some experimental stuff from the 70's.Last edited by Radar; 2012-07-24 at 12:44 PM.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
After Bob Welch passed away, I did a little web surfing on his career and remembered that he was with Fleetwood Mac for a few years. That made me take out my best-of album for the band and I rediscovered some of my favorites: Rhiannon, Landslide, and Big Love (Buckingham’s vastly superior solo acoustic version).
During my foray into Wikipedia-land about Fleetwood Mac, I read on how the band started with a duet of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks who recorded an album under the name Buckingham Nicks. I found it on Youtube today and it’s amazing! You can clearly hear where the genesis of some of Fleetwood Mac’s songs, like The Chain, came from. It’s pretty neat.Demonlobster.com because we both know that you know that I know that you like fun!

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
This song is very, very true. Thankfuly I reached the same conclusions way before I heard it. Fleetwood Mac is one of those bands, which songs I knew for many years without knowing the band itself. I mean, who doesn't know Little Lies?
Anyway, there was this band called The Alan Parson Project - you most likely know Eye in the Sky (big hit back in the day), but my personal favorite is Old and Wise (music and lyric-wise).
I'm also not sure, if I ever expressed my admiration of Joan Jett and Lita Ford (even if The Runaways didn't last long, their solo careers went well). In a war it doesn't matter who's right, only who's left.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
For anyone who hasn't heard it, Gotye, inspired by similar works by Kutiman (interestingly, not his real name either), recently remixed what has to be every cover of "Somebody That I Used to Know" into a new song.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
I came across a relatively new band, formerly known as Pyramid, Pryamiddd, then finally Starf***er, or STRFKR.
This is an interesting band. It's as though Of Montral met The Flaming Lips during their Yoshimi days. My favorite tune is off of their second album, Reptilians. It's called Julius, so enjoy.Demonlobster.com because we both know that you know that I know that you like fun!

I can't get The Fire Rises AKA Deshi Basara out of my head since I finally saw TDKR on Friday. Also, Two Door Cinema Club is coming to my area in October to support their upcoming album. I'm so pumped.

Ah, I know them. They're one of the great F-word bands. Not as good as F-worded up, or Holy F-word though. Holy F-word have the best electronic song EVER, and F-worded Up are just jaw-dropping!

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
What a show Friday. One of the city's top acts, Exquisite Corps, celebrated the release of their album on vinyl, and had one of the best vocalists, James Cavern, open, then a great band up from Fresno, Fierce Creatures filled the middle set. I got it all on video, with a couple songs from each set posted.
James Cavern: These Words, Sorry
Fierce Creatures: Babbity Abbot, Catacomb Party
Exquisite Corps: Windswept, Tyger Wine
Actually, at this point, I'm willing to call Exquisite Corps one of the best unsigned acts in the country, not just our city. Their high-energy "chamber rock" sound could wow any audience of any size anyplace and anytime.I have my own TV show featuring local musicians performing live. YouTube page with full episodes and outtake clips here.
I also have another YouTube page with local live music clips I've filmed on my own.
Then there is my gaming YouTube page with Kerbal Space Program, Minecraft, and others.
Finally, I stream on Twitch, mostly Kerbal Space Program and Minecraft.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Anybody still here?
At any rate, I've just discovered Pure Phase Ensamble - a group of musicians from differents countries came together to record an album composed specially for SpaceFest! concert (local event). I wouldn't even know about it, if it weren't for the local news. I've heard, that a similar event will be held this year as well.
And if I'm already posting here, have you ever heard of overtone singing (music starts at around 3:30)?In a war it doesn't matter who's right, only who's left.

A St. Vincent/David Byrne collaboration got dropped today. (And because I doubt that link will work for non-USA people, here's a sample track they released a little while back.)
