Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
Hope you get a decent therapist that you feel comfortable around!
*crosses fingers*
-----
So, had a therapist appointment first, and that one went well. Psychiatrist said she'd write a letter for the endocrinologist next session. She likes to do at least two sessions. It went sorta okay I guess but there were just a few things that rubbed me wrong, mostly though that she repeated several times something along the lines of "the usual tract is coming out first and then hormones (but there are exceptions)" which is sorta counter to the "plan" I talked out with my therapist I guess? And questions about what toys I played with and stuff about my sexuality which I guess is an interest thing mostly. Iunno, there was just something about the whole thing that rubbed me a bit wrong I guess. But overall things went alright.

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
Hope it goes well and that you get an amazing therapist.
That sounds quite stressful, I wish you good luck.
That sexuality and private questions are relevant seems a bit strange to me, but I hope it is just harmless oddities. Many wishes of good luck with the sessions to come. ^_^
Also, while I am only a kid who has taken Psychology classes, I do wonder why a psychiatrist would tell a patient what the "usual tract" is. Usually you would get the case and compare it to other narratives, not tell the person in question how their case is supposed to be.
Unless they were trying to help you get the data to make a plan. Is that possible?Treasured Quotes

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
Oh, yeah, you're trans. I keep forgetting that.
Regarding psychiatrists, I was very unimpressed with the one I had. Quite apart from the probing questions about my sex life and sexuality, which I assume were par for the course, he just exuded an air of not knowing what he was talking about. Then it took me three months after the first meeting with him to get the medical evidence letter I needed (he admitted to forgetting it after the first meeting, so he didn't actually do it until the second meeting 6 weeks later, and I didn't get it until over 6 weeks after that) and when I finally did get it, he'd written that I was 30 years old (despite having my correct d.o.b. on it - I'm 23) and that I "seem to be" in the final year of my course.
Thankfully the office staff got it retyped for me with the correct info, but still. Unimpressed.
Oh, and he said he'd refer me to London, but I have no idea if that's ever going to actually happen. Bleh. I want to talk to someone that knows what they're on about - I'd like to find out if anti-androgens or low doses of hormones are an option, and what effects they'd have.Quotebox

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
I'll take that as a compliment!
I thought you were genderfluid? Or was I wrong? Or are there other types of hormones with which I am not familiar (this is quite likely) that you're interested in that would have a useful effect for you?

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
It bugs me that there's anything at all to the session beyond gender. Sexuality is a separate thing, and toys you play with has little to do with it.
Sounds absolutely incompetent, really.
I'd imagine low doses of antiandrogens would slightly aid an androgynous appearance, which would make it easier to present as either sex day-to-day. But I'm not an endocrinologist.Jude P.

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
It was intended as such ^_^
I am, as far as I can tell. I'm quite interested in antiandrogens though, possibly combined with low (much lower than full HRT) doses of oestrogen, to aid in an androgynous appearance. I don't know if it's feasible or in detail what it would do to my body though, and I don't want to do anything permanent and irreversible, so I want to talk to a specialist.Quotebox

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
*hugs*
I pop in from time to time, but alas, the scope of this thread has long gone way beyond my interest or experience. I have little of use to contribute except the occasional wisecrack or budgie hug.
I read the first few iterations of the thread the other day that inspired me to join the forum in the first place. *wipes away a tear* Good times.Last edited by Kneenibble; 2012-09-20 at 12:12 PM.

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
*hugs for Lucy*
@ Astrella - hope the second session is a bit less weird and the trip tot he endo goes well
I bring up all my issues here so I don't have to explain too much background in the other thread.
With my GF I had to basically spell it out bullet-point style of "this is what's happening now; this is what I want to happen in the future". Made it crystal clear so there could be no misunderstandings of what my being trans* means - not crossdressing, not something to just do at home, something full time and out everywhere (eventually).
After that I've been slowly acclimatising her to some of the nitty gritty like, yes, I want to wear dresses and makeup and jewlery etc or the sad reality of potential discrimination we'll both face (and any potential children).
The longer you leave things, the harder it will get especially if she's labouring under a false impression.
-
And speaking of relationship stuff....
Talking to my GF on the phone today I mentioned having a longer electrolysis session coming up and I could just tell by her voice that it bothered her. Still hoping things are going to work out but part of me seems to be sure they won't. Lots of little things are making me think this like I was talking about various things that had been stressing me out, and I mentioned worrying about us too and her reply was a telling "yeah..."
I'm not drawing attention to these things to try and give her space to sort things out, and I'm mostly ok with the current state of affairs, mostly venting.
For those following my adventures with electrolysis, I had a 2hr go today which left me looking pretty messed up. Going to be taking the day off for the 3hr ones to recover I think.
Aaaaaand I'm going to be coming out to my mum on Sunday, which will be interesting. Any ideas on how to approach this?Princess in the streets.

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
More bad news. I'm so sorry *hugs* ! Losing someone you love is so so hard, especially when you can see it coming, and you feel like there's nothing you can do to stop it. There's nothing I can say that can make it right, and I'm so sorry about that.
Sorry, not a clue! At least, none beyond the usual, be honest, be yourself that we all get. I'm worse at this than you.
But, speaking of coming out, I'm going to try to do that very thing with my best friend after our D&D game tomorrow. I'm very nervous and jittery. I *know* that it's something he won't care about (he'll be surprised, definitely, but he won't care), but all these teeny tiny little things that he's done over the years has planted a tiny seed of doubt in my mind.
And, with the potential loss being so huge, that teeny seed has sprouted into huge doubts and worries and fears...Last edited by Absol197; 2012-09-20 at 01:20 PM.

Thank you all for your kind words and hugs *hugs back everyone*
Whatever you're going to do, I hope it will go well for you! *hugs*
Good luck!
Well, that wouldn't be a problem (I'm bisexual), but you're to old. And too far away. Sorry.
Hope your next sessions are better!
That psychatrist seems terrible. Hopefully you'll find a better one.
I wish you the best for sorting out things with your GF!
I don't have any advise about coming out, I can only offer best wishes and *hugs*You can call me Juniper. Please use gender-neutral pronouns (ze/hir (preferred) or they/them) when referring to me.

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
This isn't necessarily directly LGBTA+ related, but you seem like the people who would know, so... I'm writing something in which one of the characters is deliberately as androgynous as possible (which, with their magic, is very much so indeed), and I'm having difficulty coming up with non-gendered terms to use in their title; I was hoping for "[something] of the Ice", for instance, but most royalty and other things one might use have at least an implied gender. Any suggestions?
Also, *belated hugs* for Lucy, and *somewhat more timely hugs* for Zorg, SiuiS, and Astrella, should they want them.

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
I don't know how "out there" you are going but you go simply say, "Being of Ice" though not very creative. "Mortal of the Ice" has a more human vibe to it, or "Immortal of the Ice" has a more mystic vibe......as well as "Soul of the Ice", which could go with being born straight out of the ice, soul and all. If those don't work, let me know, and I'll put my brain to work some more.

Oh, yeah, if you are going for "Noble" type words.....well Noble might work. Or even Sovereign. "Highborn", such words as those.

How masculine is "Master"? I feel like it's only about 55% or 60% masculine, so that could work.

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
Master isn't technically masculine, I don't think. But when I hear it I just think of a guy. Maybe it is because I am a guy? I don't know, but I just think an old, evil wizard guy......

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
I'd say "Master" is masculine enough that it seems an odd title for someone who doesn't even have hair or facial features for purposes of making their gender difficult to tell to choose. But that could just be me.
Ruler, Monarch, or Sovereign might work, though. Edit: As might Warden.
"Out there" is good. "Soul of the Ice" is pretty close to the concept, actually, except they weren't quite born from it...

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
Master doesn't technically have a male connotation except that when it developed as a word everything was male by default unless it was expressly female. And I think it came from some gendered languages (like French and Latin) where it was definitely male.
Yeah, that might help.Jude P.

Re: LGBTAitP 26: No Time For Snappy Titles
I support Warden of the Ice, if this ambiguous person is actually protecting the Ice/Winter/Cold. If they are more like, directly tied to the cold, then I would go a different way.......but that is just me, personally. From the sounds of the context......is this person a Sorceress-type character?
