Re: LGBTAitp 27: Of Shoes, and Ships, and Sealing Wax
I wish I could follow this thread and post here in a more regular fashion.
Anyway, hi all.
Notice I need to change my tumblr address... but at least it isn't linking to my *ahem* "nusswuff" blog...
Which my mum would just ask me if I have a girlfriend so I would be "forced" to spill the proverbial beans and thus "out" myself...Last edited by H Birchgrove; 2012-10-01 at 08:53 AM.

Re: LGBTAitp 27: Of Shoes, and Ships, and Sealing Wax
You did (or at least the main index page) - I scanned it briefly but thought it was all technical medical stuff, and didn't scroll down enough to see the Consumer Information section
For everyone else, have the link. There's some amazingly useful stuff starting about half way down the page.
EDIT: BIRCHGROVE! You're back! Where have you been?
...I think I've managed to convince myself that my fluctuations are in fact real, and not being a special snowflake. Reading the booklet from the above site about SRS, I was thinking that it actually sounded quite appealing. Last time I thought about it, I was just heading back to male, and completely and totally freaked out about the idea. Such a wide gulf in my visceral reaction can't just be me making things up.Last edited by Heliomance; 2012-10-01 at 09:22 AM.

My wife always says shaving is a pain in the ass, but once she does it, LOVES how her legs feel in the bed on the sheets, esp clean sheets. I too, love her shaved legs, but also have no problem when they get a little hairy
I have to admit, I did a double take when I saw the picture, then had to look at who's post I was look at to figure out who it was, and was very surprised to see it was you!(in a good way!!!)
I have to say, I am a heels man, and that revved my engine a little.......then got myself a little confusedMy Extended Signature, Check it out!

Re: LGBTAitp 27: Of Shoes, and Ships, and Sealing Wax
My parents just read the e-mail I sent them, and they are reacting exactly as I predicted: my mom is freaking out and demanding to know more information that I feel comfortable giving, and my dad is being stand-offish and saying he's not convinced it's important enough to warrant his time.
This is going to be a long 9 days...
@ Asta - That is good news! However, we have to keep it in context: the transplant was between two female bodies that are genetically related. How that would work from a female body to a male body with no genetic similarity, I'm not so convinced it would go quite as well.Last edited by Absol197; 2012-10-01 at 01:23 PM.

Re: LGBTAitp 27: Of Shoes, and Ships, and Sealing Wax
I don't think male or female body would matter that much, honestly. Remember, one of these ladies were born without a uterus, and once you're on HRT that's basically the situation trans women are in as well. The abdominal cavity is pretty accomodating and a non-pregnant uterus isn't very large. And there's no reason to suspect that the immune response would be greater for trans women than it is for cis women. Of course, if the trans woman could get a uterus from their biological mother that would make things much easier.

Re: LGBTAitp 27: Of Shoes, and Ships, and Sealing Wax
Well, the bone structure of naturally born women accommodate a little better the bearing of children. That isn't to say that one day we will be able to change everything in there and completely rework things. But genetically female to female is much different from female to male, esp if they aren't a genetic match, due to blood types conflicting, organs not liking the environment of someone else's body....etc etc. There are just so many factors that go into transplants that need to be as close as possible for the best possible outcome, i.e. the body accepting the part that was transplanted.
All that being said, that is a wonderful step in the right direction, and I hope they are able to go even further with this step/technology.

Re: LGBTAitp 27: Of Shoes, and Ships, and Sealing Wax
Here I am again... first of all, I have to confess, I feel a bit guilty only posting here when I have problems. I'm sorry for that, I really don't intend to be so self-centered or selfish and I do constantly lurk around the thread and read your stories with interest and you all have my sympathies. I just don't feel I have anything useful to add.
Now, I did start writing my "coming out" letter, to my dad. It was fully written, but I chickened out and then a few days later we got in some fight over something quite irrelevant, but it was an excuse for me to postpone it. I'll try finding the letter again and just confronting him with it when the time is right (knowing the time will never be really perfect).
Ive been confused lately though. I've been having strong feelings for a girl and we had lunch together. We had such a great time and I felt great about it. Although I have to admit, it wasn't a real date and there wasn't much romance or flirting, so maybe it was nothing, but I felt really good about myself. It confuses me something, since it made me feel very "manly" and in charge.
I'm also thinking about ways I could experiment with feminine clothing, make-up etc, but since I'm still living at home, that would be difficult. Guess, it would be easier to just come out already.

Re: LGBTAitp 27: Of Shoes, and Ships, and Sealing Wax
Best wishes regarding the parents.
I'm sure it would work from a mother to a male-bodied daughter. The next step is simply cloning uteruses. The male body contains an X chromosome, so there should be enough data to grow your own once we figure that out. Barring faulty and recessive genes, anyway.
Eh, I'm waiting for them to just be able to grow new bodies and just transplant the consciousness over. That or insert genes to backup memories directly to DNA--possible introducing a new chromosome just for data storage and recovery--so I can clone myself and live forever or at least long enough to domesticate bears.Jude P.

Re: LGBTAitp 27: Of Shoes, and Ships, and Sealing Wax
They've already developed methods to encode arbitrary data in DNA. The problem isn't storing stuff in DNA, it's figuring out how memories work and how to transfer them back to knowledge/memories after being stored as DNA, since currently we can only work with them vaguely and indirectly.
But hey, we have the building blocks, all we have to do is put it together, right? We'll probably have that done in 20 years.Last edited by PairO'Dice Lost; 2012-10-01 at 03:23 PM.

Yeah, I know. I don't keep entirely up to date with everything but I've read up on this. The main issues are figuring out how memory works and figuring out how to make the body back that up in quaternary on its own.

I just found out about no homophobes dot com today from a facebook friend. A bit sobering, and those with common triggers and those who are easily discouraged would probably do better to avoid it. Still, fairly interesting.

I'm waiting for 'em to figure out how to use whatever it is they're trying to use to clean up "junk DNA" - at that point, we'll have pretty much cured old age. After that we can tackle making work-arounds like brain extensions and the aforementioned genetic memory.
