Re: God Save the Queen, Indeed: Let's Play Long Live the Queen!
...Wait a second, why do we even have a court magician if she can't screen our petitioners for magical assassins?
If the other person we know like that is any indication, keeping them close and giving them a bogus position is a good way to stop them from plotting your grisly horrific murder.Last edited by smuchmuch; 2012-10-14 at 09:37 AM.

Re: God Save the Queen, Indeed: Let's Play Long Live the Queen!
Chapter 29: Week 22, Mood: Willful
or
Bat-Elodie Works Alone
Spoiler
Alright, let's talk to Julianna about...Whatever. That crystal.
Yeah, Elodie. We were sort of there. We sort of forced you down the path that led to his death.
Remember that? Remember the bit where he lay as some sort of burnt and/or strangled husk on your throne room floor, your guards staring in useless horror?
"Is it possible to combine that crystal with mine to make it stronger?"
And that's what you care about...Well, it's not like he's using it, right?
So the answer is apparently no. K.
"The only way to combine their magic is if a living wielder chooses to join its power to another."
Which we can't do cause that guy's dead. Also, a murdering cretin.
"Oh."
But...But don't we want to champion justice, Elodie? Well, I can't control that question, but it is a good point. Evil Lumen sure like popping up.
This is slightly worrying. Not that they can't be destroyed, but that lots of people traditionally die for an ultimately useless preventitive measure.
"Rulers claim otherwise to discourage thieves from seeking dangerous treasures."
Yeah, it is just sort of hanging around...
"Guard it, or hide it, or give it into other hands to wield."
Yeah! Who should be our orange ranger?
"But if the last holder of the crystal was an enemy, the resonance of the crystal will work against you."
Oh. Drat.
Foolish, violent, and scheming...You mean Kevan? *shot*
"So anyone taking the crystal would probably become a new enemy. That's useless!"
"A weak-willed candidate might be acceptable to the crystal and yet still controllable. You could then steer that Lumen away from dangerous paths, making an all and changing the crystal's resonance.
It is, however, a dangerous endeavor and one that requires your complete attention."
Aww, drat.
So, what we can take away from it is...'We can't do much about the crystal'...And...'We're a lot like our mom.'
I mean, think about it. Maybe it's just that genetics are enough to satisfy a crystal, but hers is the one we have. Aww.
Well anyway, on with another week of classes.
Nature itself seems to be protecting Nova from these Tombulans. Spiffy.
Fun with destructive magic.
We could have spoken with him at the ball... Had we social skills. And had we understood the omen of the owl.
It's a checklist thing.
This isn't really a surprise; he was pretty old. The problem is the political implications.
"With the control of Elath in doubt, it falls to the crown to make decisions.
Young Lord Adair will not reach his fifteenth birthday for over two years. He requires a regent."
And I'm sure we're about to talk about why this is not a good solution.
Nova has laws that are meant to prevent the building of large power blocks. Apparently.
Elodie doesn't know much about them.
Wow. This is some well-hidden badness, it seems.
"The boy does have a living grandfather, the Earl of Ishtar. Or you might appoint an unrelated noble to act in his stead."
The unrelated guy being our uncle, presumably our dad's brother.
So we've got evil lady, old guy, and our quiet uncle who has no reason to hurt or control him.
Now, were we not engaged, we could bring him here to be our fiance. Our Robin.
But that ship's sailed.
So, what do we do?

The uncle's got my vote. A disturbing percentage of Novan royalty (other than our immediate/close family) seems to fall under the "black hat" banner.

Re: God Save the Queen, Indeed: Let's Play Long Live the Queen!
I vote for the Grandpa!
Sending him to your uncle would make everybody unhappy:
1-The step-mother scheme is foiled (but screw her!)
2-The Grandpa will likely be disappointed
3-Your Uncle might not be too pleased with being stuck as baby-sitter. Yes, he would be within your sphere of influence. But being stuck with an unwanted kid can lead to child abuse... which leads us to...
4-The kid might also not be too happy about being torn from his last living relative (Grandpa). He might grow up to resent the crown for such a random decision.ESPRE Super Powers Roleplay Engine: An open game RPG about super powers.

Re: God Save the Queen, Indeed: Let's Play Long Live the Queen!
I'm pretty sure none of our options allowed Jason Todd, or really anyone, to be our Robin. Him moving in with us is a ship that sailed when we accepted Talarast. In fact...
Spoiler
I'm pretty sure one or more of options get him dead, but I can't seem to find verification. Which is odd. I remember him getting killed. But I also remember that our current course of action doesn't get him killed, which I like.

Re: God Save the Queen, Indeed: Let's Play Long Live the Queen!
XD
But wouldn't that make him not our Robin regardless, since we never teamed up with him?
Also, exciting news! There's been a game update since the last time I checked....
And it comes with death-chibis! Sadly, my previous deaths don't count.
The one I had quickest access to to show this off to y'all was the battle with that Lumen. In our run, we survived pretty easily. But what if we couldn't kill him with his own spell...?
Spoiler
That's just adorable.
Edit: By the way, what is people's opinions of me proposing plans in preperation for "A path opening up ahead we may want to qualify for" like we did with the Sense Magic check at the ball?Last edited by Deme; 2012-10-15 at 08:29 AM.

Re: God Save the Queen, Indeed: Let's Play Long Live the Queen!
Actually, this isn't so much "There's a death possibility coming up" as "So there's an interesting but missable option that we could go for if we worked now." I've never actually gone all the way with this one...So I have no idea of its lethality possibilities. It certainly *sounds* lethal.
But I suppose if we miss it...Actually, we may survive the results at this rate. That would be sad, but oh well. If we don't, I'll definately point out what we could do to remedy it, XD
Either way, I'll count your vote as a 'no, don't make suggestions; let's keep going through.'
Also, yes. You can vote for deaths. I mean, if we die, we can just go back to that choice or to any previous 'end of update' point, and redo whatever we want...So we can totally see some deaths.Last edited by Deme; 2012-10-15 at 09:39 AM.

No, you get to choose between me suggesting action (which you can choose to ignore) based on my knowledge of the future, which leads to things I hope will be interesting and possibly lethal, or me not, and us falling -- absolutely -- into a path that that's also possibly lethal, but with the way our skillset is shaping up, I can't be sure.
