I figured it was Pinkie fairly early on... I has half-hoping they'd skip expectations and have it turn out to be Luna, but no...

Though it begs the qustion of why Princess C left the library apparently intact. I can sort of understand the diary - too many painful memories and whatnot, but you'd have though she might have made the effort sometime the past thousand years...

Also, those books must be magically preserved, because otherwise there is no way they would have survived a thousand year's exposure to the elements. The tapestries, too, come to that...

Diary is clearly the new friendship report.

And Spike getting to be the fall guy again. Twice. And nopony bats an eyelid... or apologises. Charming.

Perhaps. it's called Alicorm Magic not because it can only be done by alicorns, but because only Alicorns can use it safely?

Twilight used it pre-Alicornification, but either one use isn't enough to corrupt, or potential Alicorns are close enough to full ones for no corruption, if My theory is right

And again, dark is not evil. All we've seen it used for is illusions and mind effecting things, and color changing one potion(Which may have been an effect of the potion, to show it's ready)

So, the superpowerful mind magic might make you go crazy if you aren't strong enough to control it, and aparently only alicorns are normaly strong enough to control it.

I'm under the assumption that it's just alicorn magic. Twilight Sparkle was using it because she was taught to do so by Celestia, who was sure that her student would become an alicorn someday. (Remember, this was when they were getting ready to hand over Starswirl's notes to Twilight - which, when completed, would result in alicornation.)

Sombra used the magic too, but doing so for control. Power is power, after all. It could be called "alicorn magic" simply because it is powerful magic that only alicorns can use naturally. Kind of like idea behind "earth pony magic" or "pegasus magic", although we haven't seen those specifically mentioned anywhere.

I really liked this episode. A lot of good laughs, a lot of good visual jokes. The characters were in top form. I really like that the writers are delving a little more into the history of the setting in a slightly more concrete way, and I'm really liking the journal idea. Hopefully if it does fully replace the letters they make it into its own thing instead of just putting a new label on it. A very enjoyable episode.



-edit- I was sorta disappointed that RD and AJ were wearing suits under all those bees. I thought they were more daring than that.

Overall, it was ok. Returning to the abandoned castle was nice though it felt slightly lighter than when we first saw it. I felt like the whole "secret door" thing was kind of overdone and as soon as all the other Mane 6 showed up except Pinkie Pie I knew she was the one behind it. Still, nice cliffhanger at the end. Finally, that stasis spell Twilight cast to get the other to calm down is really powerful.

Edit: Also, the journal entries seem like a good way to replace the letters to Celestia.

Woah. There was some seriously good animation going on in this episode.

Is it just me or is Rarity becoming more of a jerk every episode?

Some pretty funny moments in this one. Twilight reaching new heights of obliviousness and Pinkie ringing the schoolbell being highlights.

Pony Armor. I can't wait for the fanart.

I was almost expecting a scooby-doo parody would happen at some point in the hallway-filled courtyard.

Twilight totally just cast Mass Hold Person. You can't convince me otherwise.

I really should have seen Pinkie being the Shadow Pony coming.

Personally, the tremendously overused secret doors and traps were the exact kind of Scooby-Doo shenanigans I was hoping for.

Really, I enjoyed everything about this episode. I was smiling and laughing to myself basically the whole way through. Bravo, excellent, 5 stars, etc.

Though I do wonder why there was an oubliette in the middle of a hallway. My best guess is that prank wars between the sisters got a bit... intense... while they were remodeling the castle. Also, mysteriously preserved books. Even the ones sitting in the middle of the room, taking direct sun and rain, were practically pristine. Must be magic.
