    Official reaction to Lyradis

Recently news was brought to me about a new vision on the events surrounding the by now infamous ball. It is said that there are those who hold the new Lord of Fire reformation responsible for the events that happened that night. However, this is far from the truth. The actions taken by brother Adam are his own and the LoF reformation does not support these. As a matter of fact the Lord of Fire reformation no longer supports the Blazing temple, due to brother Adams inability to read the signs of the Lord.
We most sincerely grieve for the losses that have been caused by brother Adam. However, now is a time to move on and to honor those that have so unnecessarily died that day. We must follow Greta, how is chosen by the Lord of Fire to be his representative in this mortal world and who is Divinorum in hearth. We must show her that it is not her fault that so many have died that day, and that she is innocent of any crime she might believe herself to be guilty of. For all she displayed was an act of compassion. If not for brother Adam non of this would have happened.
Let us honor the new Blazing Avatar, Greta, how will bring new faith to this world and help us in our times of need. And let us not forget Paco, the most noble of monks. He who has blessed Greta, with wisdom from all over the world. They will always be welcome in Calorum, as will anyone who supports them.

Liam of Lyradis I hereby invite you to visit the Caloxdur, the most revered temple of Calorum, so that we may have an open discussion on the reformed Lord of Fire reformation. This discussion may be attended by all who feel like it, for faith will never turn its back on anyone. We aim to keep an open disposition towards all men and want to avoid conflict. An official invitation will be send when all the preparations are finalized.

    All praise the Lord,

    Vilindrae Divinorum

    Round Sixteen: Begin!

Don’t forget to link to any rolls you make for ANY Attribute checks, plus rolls for rulers you will start using at the start of next round. If you want a new ruler in the next round, you must state so in your action post for this round and link to their rolls. Any increases from actions for this round are counted for the ruler you start your next round with (because it’s handier to account for by the co-GM), which may or may not be your current ruler.

    Good luck!

    Rules Changes!
Due to sometimes rules changes coming through and usually being implemented at the start of a new round, I’m hereby starting a new section of the round start post so that you may be better kept up to date of changes in them.
    - Secret Actions have been removed! This is likely only temporary, but as I will be starting a new job soon and I should also dedicate some time to making some of the rules better or more streamlined, removing these will ensure I need to spend less time on the game’s action throughout the week.
    - If you have any Agents, please post in the main thread so I can record them and put them into a table. We don’t have a dedicated assistant GM for them yet, but putting them all together would be a good thing to start with. If you made any Agents in round 14 or 15, please PM me with the link to the post so I can put it in a table.
    - Also in the main thread, I’d like to know what you think are or should count as free/non-actions, because I want to codify non-actions and what actions can be folded into others, so that that is clearer for current and future players.

    Investigate!
Guilder’s investigations into the Domhan Staff cause it to fizzle in contact with the powders of alchemical components, but no strong effects are produced. (Alchemy technology missing.)

Bordeux finds itself having trouble creating silver weapons. Perhaps research is first needed to create them?

Bordeux investigates the UFO that crashed in Crima, trying to replicate it and its results. They manage to build something that looks similar, but key elements seem to be missing.

Glazfell investigators have found that many of the nightmares near the Wall are of the eternal winter, hordes of undead, or a recreation of the description of Fabula’s prophetic dreams years ago. The fiery dreams seem odd, especially since earlier reports of the Wall being strangely hot to have been either erroneous or temporary. One investigator tried to climb the Wall and died from a fall.

    Terror!
The demon beast of Sulvan’s Fury has been defeated! More precise details as to how it was defeated have not yet been revealed by the governments of the Northwest. 7000 people of Sulvan’s Fury, including 1000 soldiers, have been killed by the Balefrog! 1000 troops from Solus have likewise died in its ashy breath!

Tupelo Cornus is…! This feels like a shounen manga chapter title.

Gunung has adamantium-plated zeppelins! They can fly higher than most previously found flight-based transportation, but the adamantium does prove to be ballast. (Keep in mind that effects of actions don’t come into play until the end of the round, so Gunung does not yet have a fleet of aerial units. The 1000 archers of last round have been counted as a land unit instead.)

Tzalteclan has found region 84! It is a large plains region, with a very arid north. It has one undefined Good resource and one Good resource of gold.

The Jarrs have found region 124! Regions 120, 121 and 122 have been spotted nearby, 120 and 121 having thriving populaces (reserved by new players). Region 124 has two undefined Good resources. Region 122 has one undefined Great resource. (Jarrland receives only exploration bonus for region 124.)

The Alydaxian Dominion has found region 132! It is a very humid and forested region with a cliffy cloast. The inhabitants are birdlike and colorful and tend to blend in well amongst the dense flowery canopy. It has one Great resource of dyes and one Good resource of ambrosia, created from nectar.

    Other!
Gio of Guilder has been found sleeping in front of his step-father’s statue in Sah’raa/Sha’raa years after his disappearance. When woken up, he greeted everyone heartily. Reports tell that afterwards he ate an entire ox and consumed two barrels of wine. It is unknown whether it was Heartwine, but if it wasn’t, he must’ve asked for a barrel more of it. Throughout his feasting, he could not shut up about a radiant goddess he spent his years with, described the view of Telluris from the surface of the moon, and mentioned that stuffed Stegosaurus intestine is something they really should try sometime.

Rumours circulate that Xiu Hanyeo has ascended.

    • The riders of Caercia, an important component in the carrying of messages and delivery of goods as well as now an important aspect in the newly raised cavalry have begun studying ways to improve their riding abilities with varying amounts of success. The research has developed into somewhat of a competition between the riders of Palas Caercia Proper and Palas Ritius to become more efficient, faster riders than the other believing it all comes down the rider ability and equipment. The people of Palas Caercia watch the jockeys with amusement and interest in what their strivings will produce.
    • It is rumored the Lord Protector has been in discussions with Jarrland regarding marrying together the two ruling Houses of their lands.
    • The brother of the Lord Protector, Cassius for whom the Lord Protector's first son is named, is leading the expedition southwest to the unknown lands. Many in the court speculate that the Lord Protector's brother will be given dominion of the new land as an arm of the Lord Protector.
    • Councilor Dieter Stein has grown quite fond of northern culture and is said to have found a wife, or three, in Raaneka during his trip there for the games.
    • Religious leader, Father Pablo Strabo, brother to Councilor Donato Strabo, is said to have mixed the recent Heartwine and Cactus Juice imports with Cana Beans in just such a way that he claims to have been able to see the Lady Silver and hold extended council with her. Unfortunately the Father could only complain of a splitting headache the next day and was unable to remember the proper mixture.

    **NOTE**
I had plans for my fluff, but this week... Well, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get to it. Also, my internet has been dodgy lately. Here are my notes for this round instead.
    Spoiler: Fluffy notes
    Show
-Vatn-Dauths was offered to Niskovia for free, but Vany was being really cool and offered Engineers for the Feran Fræ Throthjans project. The Kaiser excitedly accepted. Haljans can seem a little shallow when knowledge is involved. The reason Vatn-Dauths was offered for free remains largely unknown, but the Haljans were 100% behind this
-Aipiskaupus is one of the leading Leikjos examining and dissecting things brought back from region 76. He does cool things and earns the title 'Leikeis' as he's one of the top doctors at Throthjans Hailjan. His full title is Aipiskaupus Thuidans Leikeis Kaiser. Note the most important title goes at the end, just as the family name does as it's really important. Also note the titles are going to get super long and ridiculous because it's cool, but the ones beyond 'Kaiser' are really not necessary at all.
-Some insight into Haljan females. They don't have names per se, but they all do have nicknames. Introducing Tee, who has been mixing up drinks because she's cool like that. She's one of the Haljans in attendance at the Second World Fair.
-Talk about Neo Scandza, which I will next round instead. There are some very stark contrasts between Neo Scandza and the tales of Scandza.
-Orthyknin have usually have very guilty consciences due to their change and some things some have done. Was going to try writing some mild horror from the flesh-eater's perspective, but well...
    -FOR SCIENCE!

    Mirrors of the Past

*Year 408, Second Solar Cycle, Pyrith of Steadfast, First Shou, Day of Beauty, Somewhere near Earthhome*

Sitting besides the beast, she thought about the path she was about to take. One of solitude, but at the same time, also one of communion, of fellowship. Nyllana lighty touched the huge head of the insect she was standing next to.

It was 40 meters long, and 20 meters high, its black carapace glittering in the evening sun. It had the shape of a beetle, but it also had a fierce stinger on its back, giving the whole a strange distorted look, a chimera of different kinds of insect. Although it was impressive, its eyes were void of intelligence and instinct. It was just a hollow shell, abeit quite a dangerous one. Its lack of intelligence also meant that in order to keep it alive, attendants had to force feed it crickets, squid and fruit to keep it alive. It did not resist those feedings in the slightest bit. Also, for some reason, small droplets of water kept forming upon its shell and there appeared to always be a slight breeze inside the room, even when fully closed.

The Essence, as they were now calling it, was only born a few days earlier, bursting out of its waterlogged cocoon, only to dry up, slowly move to the ground and stand motionsless ever since. The Guardians and Blade-scholars were dumbfounded as for the reason, having found no clue in the ancient records of the Element Fortresses or at the Academy. However, somewhere deep within, Nyllana knew what she had to do. And she did not like it very much.

However, before she could be sure as to the right course of action, she needed to do much much more research. Only Earthguard and Fireguard were fully investigated and even more secret could lie within the depths of the other two. Perhaps even the ancient stone tablets in Gwrîstîn could provide more insight.

Sighing, she fluttered up, slowly flying towards the exit to resume her daily duties once more. While she left the room, the empty eyes of the Essence seemed to follow her, and it shuddered softly, as if sad that Nyllana left the room.....

[Year 406, The Mormaer's Hall, Razdis]
News was passing rapidly around the kingdom of the demon's attack in Sulvan's Fury. Many Sulvai had been killed, and some had fled to Razdis in fear. This brought an unexpected benefit however; with the expertise brought from the Sulvai's years of mining Mithril, a new, more efficient way was discovered to mine the stuff. Even more of the precious silvery metal was extracted from the rock. It was rumoured that this was a welcome boon to the Mormaer, for he had traded the Mithril that formerly went to Wenyavuk to Guilder, in exchange for some of their renowned inventors.

[Later the same year, Kalpraz, Razdis]
The sinkhole echoed with the sound of picks and mattocks. More great buildings were being constructed than ever before since the time of the Great Wall. The tower of the Eyeguard was rising steadily, and yet more were recruited to join the ranks of the slayers, when the tower was finished. The schools were being finished. Classrooms and lecture halls were chiseled out of solid limestone. The tunnels for the Hovertrain were also under construction. Tracks were now being placed in the extant tunnels as work went on in the outlying regions.

NOTE: I'm a fool, and edited over this post after the round close. HERE is the google cache to verify that I haven't changed my actions, and HERE is the post where Morph said all this was OK.

    The Royal Council of Raaneka
((Attribute increases last round: Curiosity +1, Faith +1))
((Attribute increases this round: Curiosity +1, Faith +1))

    Year 406
After long study of the artifacts pulled from the ruins of Alydaxis, the Scholars of Flickerhall have petitioned the Council for more in-depth study of these sites. The Council decrees that a Fellowship shall be sent to Alydaxia to explore one of the ruins there. All findings shall be shared jointly with Alydaxis, for the betterment of their culture.

"...and we must be sure to send that Sycian Fellow, the Berapi," continued Prince Jacob. "Vetrstark, or whatever his name is. He might tell a fine story!"

    Year 407
May all the people of every land in Telluris know that in the summer of 407, on the six longest days of the year, the Fifth Raaneki Games shall be held in Raaneka. All nations are welcome to attend in peace.

A painted messenger arrived in every land in Telluris, bearing a scroll of many-colored paper:

    Spoiler
    Show
With the joined voices of Queen Bhakti and King Tikta II Satato, Masters of Raaneka, may all the realms lend ear!

The first Lord and Lady of Raaneka ruled for fifteen years, and great contests of prowess were held at their coronation and their abdication. These games have repeated themselves every fifteen years for centuries, and in the summer of 407, on the six longest days of the year, the Raaneki Games shall be held yet again. The Raaneki are eager to receive you in peace, and our athletes eager to compete. Come one and all, to partake of our hospitality and our fabled wine.

The Raaneki Games shall begin in the capitol, Bandar of Many Colors. They will conclude in the city of Sarab.

    Signed,

    Bhakti and Tikta II Satato
    Queen and King of Raaneka
    Bright Glory, Dark Wine
    Relentless Devotion

    Year 408
After twenty five years of work, the expansion of the Royal Council Palace is complete! It was raised with stones in the colors of Raaneka: purple, crimson, and gold. Among the improvements is an opulent Council Hall, and separate wings for each of the Councilors of Raaneka, Qarimos, and Ayava and their retinues. The Council Guard barracks and Berunda Aerie lies just beyond an impressive network of gardens and outdoor spaces.

Because Bandar Palace was the home of the Adite-Devdano dynasty before the renovations, each of the Three Dynastic Houses has been given a villa in the countryside beyond the city.

    Year 409
After five years of study, several Ayavan scholars have clearly established themselves as the masters of this new style of illumination. Their combined tribute to Queen Anguri and King Krama was seen by many of their peers, and wrought tears of joy from each. In the next phase of this endeavor, may the scholars work to illuminate the wisdom of Deep Scholars Dezarajacarita and Anagatavati, who will soon abdicate their seats upon the Royal Council.

    Year 410
Nearly seventy years ago, Lady Aditi and Lord Devdan built ancestral shrines throughout the province of Raaneka, that we might never forget the great and glorious deeds of those who came before us. In affirmation of that wise deed, may each of these shrines be repaired and made beautiful once more.

(Great Project 1/5) [Military]

    Spoiler: Family Happenings
    Show

    • Korath Ignato II has officially requested he be removed from the line of succession and traveled to Genivana to join the Mashahidi. Unlike his relatives with whom he shares a namesake to the north it seems the events of the Grand Ball and subsequently at the Blazing Temple have convinced him that salvation and the true path lies within Radurjic teachings and after a few years as a mtafiti which was kept quiet by the Ignato family the second born of Empress Syana Ignato has officially renounced any imperial claims to pursue a more religious path.
    • Rumors circulate that Mira Ignato, heir apparent to the Ignato Imperial line is a drunkard and a fool. Further many say the relationship with her husband is not as it should be and that the two are often found in the company of other men and women. While theses rumors have been deemed treason and any who spread them traitors it has not stopped them from continuing the crop up throughout Triumviral lands.
    • Emerald City Governor Remina Ignato dies in the year 406 at the age of 76. She is the longest lived Ignato in recorded history.
    • Turk Ignafar Ignato, the legitimized bastard born son of Remina's husband has been appointed as the new Governor of Emerald City. His brother, Roderick has received a similar position as a council member within Water's Watch.
    • Dyamusan Ignato, after being returned to the Triumvirate two years ago from his captivity within Bordeux has continued to be distant to his family. He continually writes letters that are sent north and many speculate he has a lover in the UN from his time as prisoner. Some speculate it is Alice Bordeux herself. Those closer to the court know the truth, Dyamusan is desperate to see the daughter he fathered by another Bordeusi woman during his time as a captive.
    • Xiu Zhuang Ignato's appearances at court during the winter months continues to disturb many who are less accepting of the Salterri than the Empress. The boy seems likable, and while his Cloudiz features mark him further as an outsider within the court he has made friends with his quick mind and capability despite his age. Still, the concerns exist, especially centered around the fact that unlike the Qzare, the Empress has not removed the boy from imperial succession. This concern is compounded by the recent self removal from succession by Korath and the lack of children to so far have been produced by Mira and Andust. For now Zhuang holds firmly the right to second inheritance of the throne following his elder sister. While many are concerned by this due to his Salterri heritage there are some within that camp who recognize even at ten the boy seems smarter than his elder sister and those who do not fear the Salterri look to the boy with some hope that he might one day rise to the throne.

    Spoiler: Earl Dagr Year 410
    Show

Dagr had never expected to be raised to royalty. Truth be told he had never expected to be raised at all, but the Guild had seen to that. He looked out from his small keep's balcony upon the cool night landscape he was now lord over. In his hand was a glass of Heartwine and a royal crimson robe, fringed with bronze lion fur as was, he was told, the current fashion of Jarrland nobles was draped over his shoulders. He sighed with contentment despite himself.

Five years and it still seemed like yesterday that he had come south to Jarrland with the other assassins who had been sent on the mission to kill Tupleo Cornus with the Freak's head, and in doing so been granted his new position. It wasn't the grandest Earldom in the world, or even in Vennland. He hadn't expected it to be, after all, it wouldn't sit right with the people of Vennland if some foreigner were granted too much prestige for killing another foreigner, but the man who brought the head that had killed the mother of their new queen? Somehow his estate seemed to match his deed perfectly and he often wondered how the Jarrland King had managed to do so. His King, he corrected himself inwardly.

The keep was known as Rock Break Keep, it sat upon the Rock Break Vale in Vennland and saw dominion over the small time mining operations in the area. Mines that kept local supplies of stone and metal filled. It was land owned by the "Scowen" tribe before the arrival of the Jarrs, but there had been no particular leader uniting them at the time of their integration with the Kingdom of Jarrland and so with an easy marriage of Dagr to one of the daughters of the more well respected Scowen well-to-dos and an official declaration of Dagr's Earldom by the Duke Radber and King Athelmere themselves Dagr had been secured in his position. He hadn't known marriage would be part of the proposal, but he had found it pleasant enough. The woman, girl really, he had married was sweet if a bit dull, and seemed happy to enjoy the benefits of royalty and bear children for Dagr's new line of succession. He had taken Scowen as his royal last name, never having had a last time in the Guild and not much caring for the sound of Dagr Dagr, though he still signed most documents and carried out most business with the other Jarrland nobles as 'Earl Dagr' rather than as 'Earl Scowen.'

He had been prolific in his time, bearing a son and a daughter now 3 and 1 respectively, and he believed himself relatively well liked amongst the other nobles. His time as an assassin and more specifically as the second in command to His Lady Syf had made him quick, decisive, and yet also obedient to those higher up the chain of command. An obedience that he still kept to the nobles above him and-

"Enjoying yourself Lord Dagr?" a familiar voice said from behind him.

to her. He would have jumped if he hadn't been expecting her. She had a habit of showing up when he was enjoying the view from the balcony and this time at least she'd had the courtesy to send a letter ahead of herself.

"My Lady Syf, I was wondering when you might arrive."

"I suppose now you have your answer," she said, coming around from behind him where she could see her fully in the moonlight,"It seems the life of a noble agrees with you Dagr. A beautiful wife, two children, a castle of your very own, people who pledge allegiance to you and those you pledge allegiance to-"

"My only allegiance lies with you My Lady Syf."

"I know Dagr. I know. It's that reason that I trusted you to be the one who took the Earldom down here, and it's been quite a boon. Your burgeoning connections have been a great asset to the network down south and you've proved to have an excellent eye for talent to send back to the Guild. That boy, Kierwik, he's proven himself invaluable in some very important and lucrative missions."

"You didn't come here just to compliment me did you My Lady?"

"No, not exclusively. I also came here to reward you for your work. That boy Kierwik, he's valuable, but he would be more valuable here, in the land he knows. Furthermore, the Guild needs to grow and I can't do everything alone from the Triumvirate. We need new outlets. I came here tonight to tell you you're being moved up in the Guild. You are now Guild Master of the Southern Assassins. Begin recruiting locally, the main Guild will supply resources and experts as you need them until you have your own power established. To get that you'll need jobs, jobs from sources other than the Triumvirate. I want you to make your services available to the Jarrland King and his nobles. Establish a name for our Guild in these lands Dagr."

He was a hard man to shock, but he was taken aback.

"Thank you My Lady, it is, it is an honor," he managed.

"It will take time to establish a Guild, patience above all is key, but I trust if anyone can get it done it shall be you my boy."

With that she was over the side of the balcony, gone as quickly as she had arrived but her words lingered in Dagr's mind. His own Guild, his own Earldom. He returned to smiling and sipped his wine. He already knew a few miner's sons more fit for work other than breaking stone, he would prove His Lady's confidence well placed and see to her wishes and after that, those of his King in an even greater capacity.

The waiting was always the hardest part. Queen Mellado paced the length of the room in 10 measured strides, pivoted, and repeated on end, all he while a 5 foot tall spriggan in the colorful attire of the court gave it his all to keep up with her regal stature.

"Your Brilliance, you never assigned anyone to lead the expedition to the north."

"Notify Noba that he'll be leading. I'm growing tired of his petulance, and it'll be a growing experience for the boy."

"Oh, and, Your Brilliance, do remember to mention the candidates for the new military leadership."

    "Of course."

"Oh, and, Your Brilliance, remember to smile and speak strongly when addressing the crowd, so as to best make yourself understood."

    "Mmm."

"Oh, and, Your Brilliance, don't forget-"

The Queen halted and turned, grabbing her adviser by the shoulders and bringing him up to meet her sullen expression eye-to-eye. He reflexively averted his gaze downwards and stared at his legs in bemusement as they pitifully wiggled back and forth a meter from the forgiving basalt they were touching a moment ago.

"It will-Papai, look at me when I'm talking to you-It will be fine. We have rehearsed this speech a hundred times. Do you doubt my ability to speak? Do you doubt my plans? Is there something that you know that I don't?"

    "N-no, Your Brilliance."

"This is the culmination of years of work, Papai. My husband's work. My father's work. My work. I'm not going to lose the fish when it's already wriggling in the bag."

    "Naturally, Your Brilliance."

The drone of the heralding conch filled the air. The Queen promptly dropped Papai, straightened up, and faced the door. "Showtime."
For a moment her eyes flicked to the fist-sized black pearl strung around her neck, her engagement gift from the late King. She looked up and put on a winning smile as the hinges of the thick ebony door creaked open. The dull rumble that had filled the air for the last hour gave way to an unruly roar of a thousand voices. The queen strode out to greet the masses.

A sea of colors greeted her imperious gaze. Spriggans filled the courtyard, sat on the walls, and dangled from nearby trees. All cheering, all hooting. All eyes on the queen. Mellado Roimata raised her arms, and the crowd fell immediately to silence. The queen then lowered her hands, cleared her throat, and began.

The Jarrs had returned; such had been evident from the clatter of hooves outside, and now the loud voices as they made their way into the main hall. Well, they could wait there for her all afternoon and then all night as far as Talli was concerned. She was still the governess of this region and they would wait for her convenience. Still, she should probably get out of the bath. She set her book to one side and rose from the tub, drying herself off before burrowing down among the furs on the bed.

That will be all,” she told the handmaid, who curtseyed and scurried to the door. "Go and see that the quarters for Lord Sunder are prepared." Talli turned another page in her book. She wondered how her father had ever coped without being able to read. She supposed many would argue he hadn't coped and that was why the Jarrs were here now. Quite apart from anything else, she had Radber to thank for that, all the long evenings he had stayed with her teaching her her letters, listening to her clumsy attempts to read aloud...

The book was deathly boring, but then that was part of the point.

Voices came from outside the chamber; it seemed Radber had run into the maid on her way out. The usual argument, she presumed: the maid would be protesting that Talli wasn't ready to receive him, and he protesting that he hadn't come all this way to argue with a servant. The maid, somewhat embarrassed, edged back through the door.

    My lady, Lord Sunder-

Yes, show him in,” she said, without looking up from the book.

Radber Sunder almost pushed past the maid, and bowed to Talli. “My lady.” She did not look over at him, and turned another page.

I take it your news must be urgent, for you to disturb me in my private quarters.

Anacton has agreed to submit to the rule of Jatham.”

As is only right and proper.”

He was distracted by the sight of the bath. He had clearly marched straight in here without changing, and his travelling clothes were damp and mud-splattered around the boots.

Is that all you came here to tell me? You could have done so in writing.

What is that you're reading anyway?” She lifted the cover fractionally without lifting her yes from the page, and he recoiled. “What the hell are you reading that for?

I take comfort in dull things.” It took great self-control not to look up to see his reaction.

The king has offered to create me Duke of Vennland.

She deigned to look at him now. “And Athelmere believes he has that authority?

He sat down on a chair and began removing his mud-stained boots. “Of course he does! The Qzare has given him leave to take the province, and if I marry you, it will formally unite government over the whole region.

She put the book aside and drew herself upright, pulling the furs around herself. “If I choose to marry you, you mean. What leads you to presume that I will?

He raised an eyebrow. “Three principal reasons. First, the king has four tagmata milling about with nothing to do, not to mention twenty ships swarming with ruthless Horwik pirates, and you have, that I have observed at least, a single maid, who, for all that her efforts to keep me out of this room were commendable, nevertheless failed in that undertaking. Second, I have spent the last eight years travelling the region winning the loyalty of the clan chiefs so that their loyalty to me is now at least as great as it would be to you.

Thirdly, you're carrying my child.” She giggled as he threw himself down onto the bed beside her, and tried to recover some poise.

Tell me, Lord Sunder, was this always your intention? To seduce and marry me?

My strict instructions from the king himself, aye.

And if you had arrived in Jattenham to find me some dimwitted, shrieking, hideous harpy-

    If?” She hit him.

If you had discovered that,” she continued, “would you have gone through with it anyway?

I would have done my duty,” he said solemnly. “But perhaps-” he kissed her- “not quite... so... enthusiastically.

Her furs fell away. Lord Sunder's quarters in Jattenham had not seen use for some years, nor would they again.

Spoiler: Report on the Disposition of the Jarrland Military
    Show

For the benefit of the Silver Throne

    Army

The basic military unit is the Tagma, equivalent to an Imperial Legion (one thousand men). The normal disposition of a tagma is:
    Four hundred and eighty infantry
    Four hundred and eighty archers
    Forty cavalry

The tagmata infantry are theoretically equipped with spear, shield and plate armour, albeit most soldiers wear an imperfect array of plate. The upper body is generally better-armoured, with breastplates, rerebraces, spaulders and vambraces near-universal, but many other body parts are covered with mail. Every man also carries a sword or axe. Swords are now the norm, but some clans prefer to fight with axes.

Archers are equipped with bow, sheaves of arrows, breastplates and helmets. Many also wear additional armour, provided it does not interfere with their draw. Most archers also carry a sword or axe.

The infantry and archers are further subdivided into smaller units of 120 men each (a chyfta) commanded by a chyftan. Each chyfta is usually drawn from a single clan, except where a clan is too small to provide enough men.

Archers are drawn primarily from the Sunder and Isling clans. Infantry – often referred to as highland infantry for this reason – are drawn mostly from the Jarrow, Dunnem and Cambra clans. Some infantry are recruited from Clan Horwik, but most of them aspire to join the navy.

Cambra chyftans are wont to dispense with shield and spear and encourage their men to fight with longswords or axes only. Since the arrival of plate armour in the Jarrland military, there has been debate among even the more cautious chyftans about whether a shield is strictly necessary.

The cavalry are armed with spears and bows and will usually dismount to fight. They function largely as scouts and mobile archers, although can be deployed in combat in a necessity. The terrain of Jarrland does not generally lend itself to mass deployment of heavy cavalry.

Duke Radber has begun organising the Venn military into a similar structure, though no full tagmata have yet been raised from Vennland. While skilled archers are harder to recruit in Vennland, it is speculated that Clan Jatten might be able to compensate for this by providing superior cavalry. There has also been enthusiastic speculation on how to integrate men of Clan Anacta into the tagmata structure, although they tend to make reluctant soldiers.

The royal family in both Jarrland and Vennland are protected by "thingmen", elite soldiers, many of them themselves minor nobility. These usually carry full equipment of the highest quality and generally carry axes, though many of them wear swords for caution's sake. Each male member of the royal family is nominally protected by a full chyfta of thingmen who also bear responsibility for his family members, but given the numbers this would entail, in practice the actual number is much smaller, and each thingman chyfta exists as an administrative unit only.

    Navy

Though still relatively small, the navy is the true pride of the Jarrland military. The first ships were built to Qarimosi specifications, but they have been nearly continually modified ever since, influenced by ships from Guilder, AQUA, the Imperium itself, and native ingenuity. New experimental features have been added so that by now, while they still resemble their Qarimosi ancestors, they have a distinctive design.

In particular, the Jarr warships have a large “castle” at the stern, which supposedly helps to repel boarders and allow archers to shoot down onto the decks of enemy ships at close range. The king is a keen sponsor of the navy, and both his uncle and the queen hold positions of authority at the admiralty. These are not sinecure positions and both of them take their roles seriously, having had a major influence over naval strategy, building and exploration programmes.

At present the fleet comprises twenty vessels afloat, each with a nominal crew of fifty, plus a theoretical five in drydock to allow for cover in case of repairs or renovations to the grand fleet. The ships are named as follows:

    Queen Amber
    King Aesa
    Royal Mark
    Blazing Duke
    King Ujval
    Lady Eirwynn
    Surprise
    Lord Eldin
    Vengeance
    Atheling
    Pride of Jarrow
    Bravado
    Lady Carmine
    Unforgiven
    Furious Tempest
    Courageous
    Lady Ascended
    Spite
    Painted Princess
    Pride of Isling
    Jonas Rex

In drydock or under construction are also the following:
    Qzare Xiu Wandao
    Anguri the Martyr
    Empress Ignato
    Rock of Vestrin
    Discovery
    Mia Isabella II

The King Aesa, named for a legendary ancestor of the royal family, was the first flagship, although it has now been superseded by the Queen Amber, the personal ship of the Lord Admiral. The Queen Amber is recognisable by its size and extensive modifications: in particular it carries a high aftcastle and a particularly heavy ram.

It is rumoured the Qzare Xiu Wandao, currently under construction, will be even larger than the Queen Amber. It is certainly the most expensive ship to have been commissioned (albeit the precise cost of the Queen Amber is hard to determine given the number of modifications) but this may be due to a high level of decoration rather than tonnage.

A short declaration from the King of Ashenia to the sovereigns of the world:

"Let it be known to all the peoples of the world that the Kingdom of Jarrland has admitted to stealing the plans for the Printing Press from the Dwarves of Sulvan's Fury, subjects of the Mormaer of Razdis. "Let it be known that their nation is without honour and all who took advantage of their crime, whether knowingly or unknowingly, must be made aware that the receipt of this technology without the permission of the Sovereign of Ashenia is a violation of Ashenite law. All those who perpetrate such a crime are to be considered enemies of the Crown until such time as they make suitable restitution.
"May the spirits have mercy upon their souls and be given cause to look kindly upon them."

Attached is a list of those states who have acquired this technology legally. Those who possess it and do not appear on this list have either committed theft or been deceived:

    Year 408, in Raaneka

It was not such a rare night in the Royal Council Palace. Music drifted out of many-curtained lounges, fine perfume and incense wafted through the corridors, and the Heartwine flowed like a river. The Royal Council had gathered with copious amounts of jewelry and almost no clothing. Typical.

Well into his cups, surrounded only by his friends and fellow Councilors, King Tikta II stumbled over to his wife's newest lover, a young and strapping man. "Shee here!" he said to the pair of them. "What'sh thish proclamation?"

"My love," Queen Bhakti giggled, pulling her husband down to sit in her blue-and-gold lap so he could see the scroll they were reading. "It'sh the latest newsh from Ashhhen'ia! They say Jarrland is," she squinted at the script, "'without honor' for shtealing the Printing Pressh from Sulvan's Fury. But look," she pointed to the bottom of the scroll, "We're fine!"

The King paraded around the lounge, shaking his fist and pantomiming the wrath of Ashenia. "Wordsh should be made, but never shared! Not on parchment, and not on bodiesh!" He gestured down his side at a long roll of blue script tattooed upon his green skin. "We don' wanna read your family history if we gotta see your bits to do it!" The group erupted in laughter at the silliness of foreigners. "And don't even think about sharing if ya haven' paid for it yet! Rawr!" The conversation soon ambled to matters closer to home: recent revelry, guild complaints, future revelry, etc., but laughter would blossom anew anytime someone mentioned the West and its undying prudishness.

An Open Letter to People Who Love Books
Honourable Northern King of the Gracious Ashenians,

We greet you. As you have no doubt heard from our brother and predecessor, the honourable Xiu Wandao, King Athelmark of the Jarrs has been thoroughly punished for his transgressions regarding the theft of the printing press. Twice he has been called upon for punishment. Once for thievery and once for foolishness--a foolishness we should likewise punish our brother for! We have discovered that your honourable friend, the Lord of Bordeux, had graciously provided the Imperium with the printing press before news of this theft came to our ears. We shall send word to our brother and King Athelmark that when next they meet with you or your emissaries, they grant you the satisfaction of apology for that foolishness.

Furthermore, news has reached us of recent policies that have been instigated in Ashenia. It pleases us that someone who stood in battle against us would allow our citizens entry into your lands. For that, we are most grateful. In the near future, we hope we may establish greater connections with the Kingdom of Ashenia and the people of the West as citizens of All Under Heaven. May the future bring truth and prosperity to us all! Should you ever have need of aid, remember that there is a listening ear in the South.

    May Your Soul Be Silvered,

    Qzare Xiu Hanyeo
Chosen Lord of the Salterri People
Walker in the Silver Lady's Shadow

    Salterri Imperium
    1. [Dip] Announce the re-instatement of old royal practices and imperial laws the Qzares of old used to hold to. Namely, the Qzare's children shall not be born with claim to the Silver Throne. Instead, they have to compete for it, so the best among them acquires rulership and the good of the Imperium is ensured. To this end, the practice of polygamy shall be reinstated into the royal family, and Huar Pan'gu's Law--in effect since 822 of the Imperial calendar making polygamy illegal--shall be abolished entirely. Earlier parts of the law, such as the one banning alcohol, have long been abolished, so the entirety of it being removed should not come as a huge surprise. Culture will not likely follow with swiftness, but some nobles whisper of the possible results of this.
    2. [Dip] Attend the Raaneki Games, sending a small team of athletes along with several diplomats, to discover greater insight in what they are.
    • Accept Palas Caercia into the Imperium as a lesser vassal. Gift the printing press, plate armour and ocean-faring ships technologies to them as they become part of the Greater Imperium.
    • Accept trade proposal of Palas Caercian Flax for Penoccidental cliffhorn goats.

    • Search for suitable wives for Prince Xiu Tailong, current sole heir to the Salterri Imperium.

    3. [Mil] Send one legion (1000 troops) to region 69 in conquest, alongside the Jarrs. For the Imperium!
    4. [Cur] Accept new agreement by the Priory to send them orichalcum instead of grain as trade for salt. Gift the Priory the technology of the printing press.

    2. [Cur] Begin building a channel between the southern lake and the ocean, including sleuces. Send word to Palas Caercia it is up to them to finish it. [1/2]

    Priory of Ascension

    Salteire
Atop a lonely spire of craggy rock, the angels have begun constructing an edifice of fine limestone and polished granite and the trunks of fine cypress trees and towering redwoods. The entire structure is bedecked with silver, gold, and orichalcum. The actual purpose of the glorious building escapes those bound to the terrestrial sphere...

A group of more militant angels begin drilling on the open plain and in the air surrounding the spire, perfecting their combat tactics should they need to defend the capital.

    Campestrus Pratum
Ascension begins to spread among the populace as the influence of the Priory permeates their culture. The minotines seem to resist the religion for the moment, though they still seem open to hearing more about it.

    Bor-Teire
The attempts to bring peace to the region continue. With the region settling down, Salteire withdraws its troops, sending them back to their home regions.

Round 16 Actions for the Kingdom of Serendel (subject to change):

    1[Curiosity]
With the Cross Continental Canal fully open and functional, the Grmanhil tribes begin work on towns along the waters, so that ships may stop along the way. The largest of these is Hivedric, which is intended to become the Honey capital of [1/5].

The barrens of Borlmyn show that with some effort, they can support crops. Unfortunately, too make any sort of progress, a large scale irrigation system must be put in place. [1/5]
    4[Curiosity]
Requiem begins trade with Grmanhil - Ironwood is sent, and Glass is returned. Grmanhil is making bigger, better forges, and the Ironwood will make the fires hotter, burn longer, and better. Why they've begun this process, it is unsure. Perhaps to melt more sand, or forge more iron? Requiem also discontinues their shipments to Lyradis of Ironwood.

Curiosity 10 Action - Create a technology for using Abyssium. This gas, when stored in a container, causes it to sink under the ocean. When gas is released, it becomes more and more boyant, and the container can rise to the surface. If enough gas is stored, the container can be counter balanced by a second container, containing air, which assists with rising to the surface again.

Continue rebuilding the old Capital of Lyradis in Requiem, using the ruins and old plans to begin anew. Invitations are sent to Jarrland and the Qzare to look at the plans, and assist with the reconstruction if they so choose. [2/5]

Samhell Bellami, Junior name Minister of the Trade and Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Verdo Collino is made Minister of Technology

    Round Seventeen: Begin!
Years 411-415 of the Common Calendar

Don’t forget to link to any rolls you make for ANY Attribute checks, plus rolls for rulers you will start using at the start of next round. If you want a new ruler in the next round, you must state so in your action post for this round and link to their rolls. Any increases from actions for this round are counted for the ruler you start your next round with (because it’s handier to account for by the co-GM), which may or may not be your current ruler.

    Good luck!

    Rules Changes!
    - Trade Posts now no longer take over resources, but instead copy a single stack and send it to the capital region of the trade post's owner. Regions can have two Trade Posts in them. For more information, see the OP of the main thread for the full rules on them.
    - Region cap has been increased to 6.

    Lucky!
    +1 Luck for…

    ...
    ...
    ...

    Get to Luck votes!

    Decay! Growth!
    Tar loses 2000 troops
The Jeweled Cities loses 4000 naval troops
    Alydaxis loses 1000 army troops
    Crima loses 2000 army troops
    Bordeux loses 2000 army troops
Guilder loses 2000 aerial troops and 2000 naval troops
    Sycia loses 1000 army troops
    Keldagrim loses 2000 army troops
    Ashenia loses 1000 army troops
Celero loses 1000 aerial troops and 2000 naval troops
Lyradis loses 1000 naval troops and 1000 army troops
    Domhan Abhaile loses 1000 troops
    Gunung loses 4000 army troops
    Sympolemou loses 3000 army troops
    Mularuhm loses 1000 troops
    Calorum loses 4000 troops
    Pryonia loses 4000 troops
    Razdis loses 2000 troops
    Eyrecradia loses 1000 troops
Aus-Teire loses 2000 naval troops and 2000 army troops
    Pontensulae loses 1000 naval troops
    Discordia loses 1000 troops
    Penoccident loses 1000 naval troops
    Wyrmar loses 2000 troops
    Aloren loses 3000 troops
    Hrathan-Tuor loses 1000 troops

    Investigate!
Bordeux investigators have sadly not come further. Apparently they lack the technology to create what is asked of them—or the magic.

The Glazzfel discovers the Wall goes far around and perhaps up unto the mountains in the distance beyond the lands they have discovered. The investigators have not yet returned, but they have sent back a sealed message carried by a snow fox with broad paws and grasping claws—which enable it to scale the wall.

Niskovians have discovered the spirits dancing in the mountains. When approached, they vanished, but what was in their midst was left behind: the unconscious body of a middle-aged human woman with glowing golden skin.

    Colonize!
The Tunneldom of K’braashriix has been found to be uncolonizeable due to the colonizers being incapable of fitting into the tunnels.

The Priory finishes colonizing Bor-Teir (region 34)! 2000 of the troops have deserted from service since the beginning of the colonization—some speculate that they have slipped across the northern borders to join the Burning Legion.

Niskovia finishes colonizing regions 48 and 77!

    Celero finishes colonizing region 90!

Tzalteclan begins colonizing and is quite successful in region 84, but ultimately the Guilderenes best them. Tzalteclan can continue the attempt at colonization. If they win the opposed check this round, region 84 is theirs.

Guilder begins colonizing in region 84! They will have a +2 bonus on the opposed Diplomacy check next round.

    Jarrland begins colonizing region 124!

    Claim!

    Convert!
Guilder now contains more adherents to Radurja! (Is it now a majority or the only religion in Guilder?)

The Tunneldom of K’braashriix now contains a minority of Radurja adherents! Apparently one of the mashahidi got stuck in the tunnels and the kobolds took a liking to him and kept him alive with rat meat and a strange kind of thick moss. The kobolds seem to be open-minded to some of the ideas.

    War!
Pavonia invades Norogh! Roll for Mularuhm.
Losses: here. Mularuhm loses 4 units, Pavonia loses 1 unit. Pavonia’s conquest of Norogh: [1/2]

Haljan conquest of region 76 has succeeded flawlessly! [2/2]

Jarrow/Salterri invasion of region 69 has gone without any military opposition. [1/2]

    Terror!
The Flesh Eater has been executed!

    Explore! New Map!
    Spoiler
    Show

Nothing has been found below Rannara.

The Glazzfel Hegemony has found region 82! It has 82.000 people and a Great resource of mud, thanks to the presence of small mud volcanoes. They seem great for mudbaths, though the residents looked on oddly, as they find the mud to be a kind of food for their kind. There is also a Good undefined resource.

The Jarrs have found region 88! …why do these people have basket greatswords like Marrik? There are 84000 people, a Good resource of fish and a Good resource of saffron and ginger spices. The people have bred many kinds of fish they find pretty, and in some of their cities there are even fighting pools for some aggressive fish.

Palas Caercia has found region 93! It has 69.000 people, a Good resource of gnarls and a Good undefined resource.

The Alydaxian Dominion has found region 133! “Zhèxiē shì shénme xīyì zuò zài wǒmen de tǔdì?” It has 54000 people, a Good resource of rubber and a Good resource of shedding trees.

Palas Caercia has found region 134! It has 99.000 people, a Good resource of leviathans and a Good undefined resource.
