It's not a matter of levels. It's a matter of meaning it.

Sigdi probably does have a bit of personal power -- though I doubt she's a match for Hilgya in a fair fight -- but in this context she'd be just as intimidating if she were a first-level commoner. Kind of like someone sincerely ready to jump out a window, and figure out on the way down how to survive the fall. You don't want to cross such a person; the results are too unpredictable.

Well, that went more smoothly than I thought it might. Maybe Hilgya offing Durkon defused more of her ongoing rage than anticipated.

Of course, this could then lead to more issues in the vein of:

    Wow!! Mom of the year.

I loved how Sigdi re-framed so much so easily.

    Some paraphrasing below.

    ----

    Sigdi: That's a firm na.

    ---

    Durkon: I got Flamestruck!!!!

Sigdi: You're not still dead, Uncle Hoskin is still missing a tooth.

I want Sigdi as my Mom.

Native French speaker here, with a personal interest in linguistics.

Coup de Grâce should be pronounced "coo duh grass"

Grâce here means mercy, (in the etymological sense of mercifully killing someone rather than letting them suffer), although "giving the coup de grâce" DOES have the same meaning in French of finishing someone who is down/weakened, either literally or metaphorically. (Small linguistic disgression : the French "Merci" and the Spanish "Gracias" have mirror histories, of both historically meaning "mercy" and being transformed into "thanks" in one language and not the other.)

"coup de gras" (prononced coo duh graa) would indeed mean hitting someone with fat.

Probably for the same reason the nation itself doesn't have one (ie, all it would do is officially exclude non-English-speakers).

I said "the USA doesn't have an official language," didn't I? Why do you need to invent nits to pick?
If this had been framed as a Fun Fact or something, it would be fine, but you're framing it as a nitpick, so we have problems now.

i get the feeling Hylga and Kudzu might be living with Sigdi from now on. Aside from that one small threat, they seemed to be getting along quite well

plus Hylga might feel confidant leaving Kudzu with grandma for awhile when out doing clerical things, who knows?

Is there some reason to believe that she doesnt think Hilgya greatly overreacted? The evidence strongly suggests that she does not appreciate hearing about how Hilgya literally killed Durkon.

Well, wouldn't that be explained as in she casted "Geas" on herself, so the spell forced her to "finish him off"? (if I wanted to look for a neutral explanation of why the dwarf had to die). if I recall well, geas is a way to force a character to do something. (curious that Roy's father never ever tried to cast one on himself, nor roy's mother tried to get geas cast on him). :)

Presumably, declaring official language(s) wasn't a concern when they adopted statehood, and there wasn't enough to be gained by declaring already-in-use language(s) "official" for the state government to bother to do it afterwards.

    Right.
I don't see why Hilgya was still in such a vengeful mood.
She named Durkon's son after A PLANT, for Thor's sake.
Isn't that enough of a revenge, already?
When in doubt, set it on fire, right?
