Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
Who knows, maybe one (or both) of them had been polymorphed already into what they are now, so they would feel better in the bodies that (now) correspond with their sexual identities.

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
Or maybe a curse has been placed upon their whole family, rendering all genders null and void.
Hmm, I wonder how my party would react if Icast an Epic Level spell like that on them...
"But... but I'm a guy!"
"Not anymore. Now you don't have a gender."
"... So, uh... erm... you mean I don't have...?"
"Nope."
"Was it replaced with-"
"Nope."
"... I hate you."
Hmm, alright, so it'd be a good way to get myself killed by a bunch of ambiguously gendered former allies...
Sounds like fun stuff.

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
You know, there are such things as gender-neutral names, and same-sex marriages.
The hair... would it be due to the color you see it as feminine? Because green hair (and for that matter, purple hair) isn't exactly common among females either.
Besides, if the behavior screams female, does that not also support the "gay" hypothesis (especially given the body type)?
Quite likely, I'd say.

Although I can see your hypothesis, it is flawed, as pointed out already.
Everyone knows that both and are sequential hermaphrodites. It's been a bit, GitP. If you're reading this, you're either digging through old stuff, or I've posted for the first time in forever.

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
No, it's a curse, dammit!
Or, perhaps...
A running joke! *Duhn duhn DUHN!*
I mean, come on, do you people really think that pretending to have figured out V and K's genders will be any use? It's a running joke, so by definition, there is no right answer. And what do we call arguing over something that has no answer? I'll give you a hint. It starts with "P" and ends in "ointless".Last edited by V'icternus; 2009-03-30 at 06:04 AM.

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
I think that the the genders of V and their family is entirely based on the comic in question. It depends on the context of the comic. Although it is fun to speculate.
Personally I've always considered V a girl, if only just because (s)he is best friends with Haley and shares a room with her. And also for party balance.
Does anyone think Haley knows what gender V is? They do share a room...Sirius Black:

V was intended to be a guy by Rich, and thus he shall always be a guy to me.

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
You know, someone I know said the same thing about how Jar Jar Binks would react to Obi-Wan's death. I didn't buy it then, either.
Oh well, if this is serious, then allow me to say that everyone but me is wrong in every way. ^^ (Am I getting the hand of this or what?)

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
Effeminate behaviour and personality traits have been the trademark of homosexuality for centuries. Your denial of this historical fact is so out-of-this-world, that I don't even see a need to engage in any serious discussion on this topic. Just because your pals are gays of the butch type does not mean all other homosexuals are butch.
Same with lesbians. Many lesbians are distinctly masculine in clothes, behaviour, and even body type (buff).

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
There is such a thing, as noted in the article I linked to. This does not mean that ALL gay men act feminine, of course, just that a significant number of them do.
The gay men you personally know aren't something you can use to generalize about the entire population, after all.

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
And so another V's gender thread has turned into a V is gay thread and is now boardering on a gay pride parade - -
Yeah... I'm no expert on gay people, but I only really know two of them, and from a glance, you'd have no clue that they're gay for eachother. Quite honestly, I hate walking stereotypes, and that includes effeminate, promiscuous, fake lisp talking gays. Theres absolutly nothing about homosexualiy that requires you to act like an annoying stereotype. If you can act like a normal person, you're ok in my book. Same goes for any and every other group out there.[/tangent over... hopefully]
I just see the ponytail as very effeminate. It has nothing to do with the color or anything... Its just my interpretation of it... the style just seems effeminate to me.
Body shape... people love to bring this into V gender debated. Why would it matter when Rich intends BOTH V and Kyrie to have impossible to determine genders? He chose to make them androgynes, and he designed Kyrie with that in mind.
Dal'Kyranis? Kyrptonite? Laakyrath?

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
Just because we hypothesize that V may be gay, this wasn't really called for, IMHO.
I think we can all agree that Kyrie isn't as stereotypical as that, so that's beside the issue. BTW: does this mean you also hate manly heterosexual males?
My response to Rose Dragon covers this.
LOL, well it seems you do not object to all stereotypes after all.
Not really, apparently he has said that he didn't initially intend V to be androgynous. He was surprised by the gender debate threads, but found them amusing so he wrote the concept into the story. As for the body type, IMHO there is no reason we cannot legitimately use this as evidence just as we can use behavior.
Vaarkyrius...? nah.

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
I don't even think theres enough evidence to assume V/Kyrie are gay...
Manly hetero men? Like... Say... someone who acts like The Todd from Scrubs? Yeah, in real life, that would annoy the hell out of me.
Not really a stereotype, just the way it looks to me... probably helped by the fact that I've always viewed V as male.
But I have no objection to stereotypes in themselves, merely the people who live as them.
Ah, but since he wanted V to remain androgynes before designing Kyrie, why would he give such an obvious visual cue as a clearly defined body shape? Eother The Giant gave the body shape as a confirmation that Kyrie is male (unlikely because this reflects upon V's own androgynes nature), or the same rules don't apply for elves... or atleast for androgynes characters. Otherwise, he could've easily given Kyrie different clothes to hide the body shape.
Vaarkyrius is possible, but I'm not the type to recycle other people's ideas =P. Seems too similar to Vaarsuvius anyways...

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
I'm a red blooded 35 year old straight male, and I've had a long pony tail for most of the past 15 years.
Long hairstyle for males turned short as a military thing... and that was because head lice spread diseases in the napoleonic era armies.
As I don't have and head cooties, I don't see a reason to clip my mane

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
And I'm a straight male about half your age with hair that goes about 1/3 of the way down my back.
Its more of a style thing that makes me think that, not a length thing.

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
There isn't really enough evidence for the other position either, but it's a valid possibility, that's the point.
It doesn't really mean anything vis-a-vis V himself, given the above possibility. And if you can object to the Giant using a male body type as a dead giveaway for Kyrie you can also object to his using feminine behavior for him too, if you go by the assumption that he's not gay. There's such a thing as hiding in plain sight, after all.
But to me, Kyrie does not really come off as particularly feminine in behavior. The ponytail doesn't mean anything by itself, neither does the raising kids and working at home; those are pretty much assumptions based on classical human gender roles (and we always knew he was the one who stayed at home in the first place anyway). As opposed to the body type, especially since we have seen obviously female elves around.
That was the point. Hence also the "nah".

Re: Varsuvius: Totally a dude
Oh, btw, Kyrie's eyes are higher than V's eyes. Look closely at 641.
So "V is male, Kyrie is female" appears to be invalidated.
This, along with V's sudden long hair, and Kyrie's obvious male body shape, leads me to believe that Kyrie is male and V is probably female.
