Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
Welcome to Insanowar the tenth, which uses Roman Numerals in the title.
A randomly dictated turn and picking order has been established:
1. Disc Lorde
2. Jormengand
3. Murska
4. Zweisteine
5. Duck999
Units will be chosen two at a time to speed up the process. A map might be created by the time we start the actual game. Any volunteers for map making?
Also: Let the choosing, begin!
Please link to descriptions of your units.Last edited by Duck999; 2014-06-11 at 07:19 PM. Reason: Added rule

Re: Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
Let's get this party started!
1st picks:
1. Atomic Tank with fully upgraded weapons, full shields, and 1 nuke. No melalaser or supply copter.
2. Eragon from the end of the Inheritance Cycle. In prime fighting condition but with no stored energy.
I'm assuming our units are supposed to be at "demigod" tier.Last edited by Disc Lorde; 2014-06-13 at 06:32 PM.

Re: Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
Read the centrals first post with rules. One high level unit. A small group of mediocre units. An army of weak units. Also, please link to all units descriptions.

Re: Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
I've read it, but "powerful" is subjective. I have a powerful unit and a group of two semi-powerful ones. Semi-powerful on their own, I mean. I hope they're about on the level of other units with no stored energy.
I'll link to Eragon and Saphira later. Gotta dash.Last edited by Disc Lorde; 2014-06-11 at 07:41 PM.

Re: Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
Hmm. Let's see.
1. A Cybran battlegroup consisting of two Slammers, a Deceiver, two Fire Beetles and a Rhino.
(This amounts to 2 flak anti-air vehicles, two mobile bombs, a single laser tank and a radar-jamming vehicle.
2. 24 United Earth Directorate infantry, armed with small arms plus a few flamethrowers, anti-tank rockets, squad automatic weapons and designated marksman rifles.

Re: Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
I'm a bit stuck on what to take...
I want a fully-operational, fully-crewed-and-equipped Imperial I-class star destroyer. But I'm pretty sure thousands of troops counts as too many.
So I'm not sure what to put in my first slot. I want stormtroopers, but they generally come in much larger units, if I want a transport, which I do. How many is too many, anyway?
Spoiler: Things I'm consideringSentinel-class shuttle: might be too powerful
Lambda-class shuttle: doesn't do much, and doesn't have room for any standard-sized stormtrooper group
Kappa-class shuttle: less used by Empire, and I don't like it as much (slightly modified, though, it has everything I need)
IF-120 Landing Craft: too many (120) troops
Can there be duplicate (or similar) units in this game?
Can there be combined units that take up more than one slot (ex. a fully-euqipped IF-120 Landing Craft acting as 2 or 3 of my ten units)?Jon Snow and Ghost avatar (not currently in use) by Gurgleflep 15370262 328.

Re: Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
You can combine units. For example, you could buy a landing craft, and then you could buy 100 stormtroopers.
And, well, power levels fluctuate wildly. I mean, I'd say the most powerful champion of a Chaos God from WH40k is pretty strong (kinda like, well, anything from 40k), but he's still going to be played as something that can be defeated by a bunch of ordinary guys with guns, so it doesn't matter so much.

Re: Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
So... Conservation of Ninjutsu is in effect, basically?
Judging by what you recruited, 20 troops is about one unit. Sure, Stormtroopers could come in larger numbers, but I'd like troopers that didn't go to the Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy.
Spoiler: Rejected IdeasHmmm... A Sentinel-class landing craft is probably too much. It has the shuttle's weapons (8 lasers, missiles, etc), 54 stormtroopers, 12 E-web blasters (laser-machine-guns), and 6 speeder bikes. Way too much. I'd judge it as two or three units.
I'm not sure where a Kappa-class shuttle falls... It has its own weapons (2 lasers, 2 blasters), 2 AT-RTs (walking turrets), and 40 stormtroopers. It feels like it might be two units, but only barely (1.75 units).
I think the Lambda-class shuttle is what I'll be using for my first unit. I will be slightly modifying the contents of the shuttle, but not beyond recognition (I'll add this when I have time).
Now what do I use for the second unit?
Rather than waste your time being indecisive about my units, I'll make a snap decision about it!
I'll use the TIE series of starfighters! Something like one of each major type, with some others. I'll add details to this as well, but I'm short on time, and don't want to hold you up.
EDIT:
I'll add some detail now.
For the TIE fighters:
3 TIE/LN Starfighters
1 TIE/IN Starfighter (TIE interceptor)
1 TIE/sa Bomber
1 TIE/D Defender
And my modified Sentinel-class landing craft:
In addition to the crew (of 5), there are 41 Stormtroopers and 5 Scout troopers on board.
The craft also carries 6 74-Z Speeder Bikes, 12 E-web heavy repeating blasters, and 1 Compact Assault Vehicle.Last edited by Zweisteine; 2014-07-12 at 12:09 PM.

Insanowar!!!
My first choice is Aiden Pearce. In this case he can also hack a gun at a time, because otherwise he wouldn't be nearly as good. Unless you count changing traffic lights as overpowered.
And second will be an army full of RainbowBalloonsBloons. Don't worry, they can be popped by just about anything. But if they get too close to you... YOU LOSE LIVES!Avatar made by Bradakhan| Other avatars.

3. Saphira from the end of the Inheritance Cycle. In prime fighting condition but with no stored energy.
4. Louie, Melissa, Genie, and Merrill from Rune Soldier. (No magical items.)
I decided to split up Eragon and Saphira. I guess I forgot how powerful they were.

Re: Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
I mostly chose the number so I have sufficient infantry to realistically get various things done and even take some losses, without having so many that I am unable to portray them as human beings instead of just mooks. :)
I've wanted to try a different sort of thematic approach to Insanowar a few times, but the games I've went with ended up not starting or lasting. Also, I tend to avoid picking units that I really like, because those just end up dying before I can do anything with them anyway, but I've been thinking about ignoring that this time around.

Re: Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
Not like as in enjoy using. Like as in I think the character is awesome.
Generic stuff is perfectly fine. Most mooks tend to be generic. But if you mean units that aren't from any particular work, then I'm not so sure. However, it isn't usually very difficult to find some specific fictional version of pretty much any unit of that type.

Re: Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
3. Toph Beifong from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
4. The Undersiders without Skitter from the beginning of Worm. (That is, Grue, Tattletale, Bitch (and three dogs) and Regent.) If you haven't read Worm and there's any chance you might, avoid the link - it's full of spoilers. Worm is an awesome web serial that you really should read. Basically, Grue can create clouds of darkness that erase all light, mute and distort sounds and confuse the sense of touch. Tattletale has superpowered intuition. Bitch can quickly grow her dogs into giant mutant monsters, and then back. Regent can provoke uncontrolled movements or spasms of particular body parts, or with prolonged contact to a target take over their entire body.

...I am pretty sure those would be his third and fourth, since he already picked one and two. I had some ideas for mine, but now I forget. Give me a second.
3. Emmet, Batman, and Wyldstyle, along with assorted lego pieces.

Sorry about the delay, I haven't been online here much recently.
I'll take Homura Akemi, complete with various heavy-duty firearms and (localized) time travel.
For my other unit, I'll have Albus Dumbledore (and his wand and other personal/wizardly possessions (the deluminator and a high-quality broom), for example)).Last edited by Zweisteine; 2014-07-10 at 09:57 PM.

Re: Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
I've been having a hard time choosing what to take, but I'm ready for both this round and next now, I think.
The MOPs from Earth Unaware and its sequels, outfitted as they were immediately prior to subterranean attack at the end of the series' second book.
Kirito from Sword Art Online, outfitted as he was immediately prior to his final battle in Aincrad.
Also, I suggest that, after all troops have been recruited, we each post a list of our armies, with a summary of their abilities, so those of us who have no idea what they are know how they work.
I've also modified my stormtrooper/shuttle selection to make them more expendable and the ship less retrofitted.Last edited by Zweisteine; 2014-07-13 at 09:32 AM.

Re: Insanowar the X: Back to Roman Numerals
Yeah, so for ease of reference my list is currently:
Kairos Fateweaver: Two very powerful magi who share a body. The personal servant of the god of magic, but still easily possible to take him down by shooting him.
Lance's Valkyrie tank: Lance has a gunblade, and is capable of calling in artillery strikes, firing explosive shots, and even healing things. The Valkyrie just fires at things.
3 Pyro Rigs: Dump trucks with flamers on the back, but almost impossible to destroy, impervious to the fire of many tanks and practically all infantry, and capable of stopping things they attack (and even things they don't actually attack!) from acting. Also hits harder than almost everything else in the same universe.
Black Rock Shooter: As well as being capable of stereotypical anime 50-foot jumps, carries a battle cannon which would look fitting on a tank, and does so with a hand to spare. Also has a sword, and is capable of breaking steel chains with her bare hands. Never wears armour, and seems to have fairly poor spacial awareness (and at times, accuracy).
Jinx: Carries a minigun, and a rocket launcher, and a laser pistol, and grenades which also have traps on them which hold people in place if they hit. Is capable of taking a giant missile out of nowhere. Has pretty much no capability for defence or evasion.
Raktaba'an: Has a list of spells which amount to "Kill things," "Summon things that kill things," "Stop things killing my summoned things," and a few more. His signature spell, if you will, is one which forces an opposing unit off the battlefield for a time with strong winds. He can hold up to 4 spells at once, though it becomes harder for him to gain new ones if he is holding 4, and while he holds them, they get more and more powerful when he finally does use them.
Guitar Bandit: The video says it all.
Caine Soren: Is a normal, if slightly sick-minded, teenage boy, who just happens to be able to pick up vehicles with telekinesis. The same power seems to render him practically immune to being shot, though maybe that's just because he kills everyone who would try to shoot him.
EDIT:
A rabbit with very sharp teeth: Is capable of killing armoured knights with ease, and dodges their attacks. Can only be killed by blowing it up.
Blue-eyes white dragon: Is a dragon. Cannot be killed by five squirrels.Last edited by Jormengand; 2014-07-29 at 08:11 AM.
