Re: TwoBitWriter's Tubular Tracts of Thought-Talking Random Banter #111
Spaceballs was not funny. It wasn't stupid. It was tedious.
There's parodies, and then there's going too far. That's what spaceballs was. Ye gods, the opening of that movie was enough to make me not care about the rest and watch something else. When I watch a movie with the expectation of funny, I want it to be funny, or at least mildly entertaining. Not boring right from the get-go.
/rant
In other news, I miss looney toons. The wackiness, the absurdity, the violence, the awesomeness. Cartoons today just don't have what it takes anymore. *lesigh*

Re: TwoBitWriter's Tubular Tracts of Thought-Talking Random Banter #111
I have to disagree. The opening was what is referred to in trope circles as Crossing the Line Twice: it was funny...then it was boring...then it was so absurd it was funny again. The rest of the movie was fresh and clever in almost every scene for me, and I'd call it one of my top comedies of all time.
It's just my opinion, of course.Spoiler<-I won this from Dr. Bath.Spoiler

Re: TwoBitWriter's Tubular Tracts of Thought-Talking Random Banter #111
Perhaps I just watched it with the wrong crowd of people.
Or maybe my attention is too short to enjoy something such as that.
Or maybe, just maybe, we should have fast-forwarded before the beginning killed the funny.

Disgusting. I love it.
Whatever I want to say about animal consciousness, about evolution and Darwin, and all its procedent consequences in the spectra of thought, there are two wonderful things I will always hold commonly precious with the ape: bananas and autoeroticism.

Re: TwoBitWriter's Tubular Tracts of Thought-Talking Random Banter #111
I love that song; can still sing it off by heart. Then again, prolly every Britlander teen can, just the same way they can sing the entire Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song. And you know you can, so don't even bother trying to deny it.
It's like just after CLassics the other day: we were arguing which dub had the better opening song: Pokemon (original theme song) or Digimon.
We decided Pokemon.
Bathatar!

Y'know, I had decided on a theme for the next Gender-Bender Week, but the temptation to replace it with "Mel Brooks Free-For-All" is rather strong.

Re: TwoBitWriter's Tubular Tracts of Thought-Talking Random Banter #111
Oh dear. That's just terrible.
This book on logic and language proof was coauthored by Jon Barwise and John Etchemendy.
Guess how they wrote this.
Jon Barwise ∧ John Etchemendy.
I bet someone was pissing themselves over that one.
(I guess I should include for those of you who don't know anything about logic or in fact anything that it is used in, such as computer programming and whatnot, that '∧' is the symbol for the Boolean operator AND.)Last edited by Player_Zero; 2009-01-08 at 08:31 AM.

Re: TwoBitWriter's Tubular Tracts of Thought-Talking Random Banter #111
No, no, it's kind of a joke only probably not intended to be funny, see.
Funnily enough this module has been pretty much summed up in the foundations module previously AND in the Discrete maths module.
Even more funnily enough I had already learnt all of this material over the Summer before coming to university with a schoolmate's step dad. I've been taught the same thing four times.
Some might think that's tedious. I think of it as free 100% grades on my exams.
And it's an easy subject too.
Also it includes things I find amusing, like finding ambiguities. For instance:
"No one hates a man after he shoots him."Last edited by Player_Zero; 2009-01-08 at 08:43 AM.

I don't know either of those songs. (I only bother to learn ones I like, and even then I struggle, hence the expression "how does Luca by Suzanne Vega go?")

Re: TwoBitWriter's Tubular Tracts of Thought-Talking Random Banter #111
I'd swap you for the repeating verse of "Pinky and the Brain" which is stuck in my head right now.
Both Freud and Jung have much to say on the subject of dreams about socks. Of course, they were both Austrian and wholly brainfried on a Devil's Brew of opium, schnapps, sachertorte, flagellation, and leiderhosen. So, yeah, pinch of salt...
Odd factoid/question: I was just told that the "eat by" date on a packet of crisps always falls on a Saturday (at least in the UK). Is this true?
ION: exam answers to the question of why one should not rock it hardcore 24/7, repelling the Moon Man invasion, nuclear lighthouses ("What could possibly go wrong?"), LEGO + steampunk + Star Wars = ???, thoughts on the taxonomy of 'bots, and Bruce Sterling and his hippy mates put the world to rights.Last edited by bosssmiley; 2009-01-08 at 09:57 AM.
