LGBTitp - Part Six
Welcome, one and all.
This is a thread where we Playgrounders, and LGBTitp in particular, gather to discuss, share our experiences, give general advice and support one another in such matters as arise relating to, well, the world beyond heteronormaitivity.
- Everyone is welcome. Let's try to keep from seeming otherwise.
- Keep this topic free of politics and religion. (so, don't violate the board rules, plz)
- It's beyond the scope of this thread to discuss whether LGBT is "Right." (And really, most discussions probably should avoid moralizing too much anyway)
- Please refrain from posting sexually explicit content. (Keep it friendly as well as board safe )
If you would rather be anonymous when asking for advice or sharing your story or views, you can use the address below to send a message to be posted in this thread via proxy.

Keep in mind that content which contain strong language may be filtered (Plus, y'know, the forum-filters), and content that violates the forum rules won't be posted at all.
Here are the links for the last few threads, where much of use or interest may be found:- LGBT people in the playground

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
That's probably one advantage of being borne male. You've got better chances that a girl will be atracted to you.
And as all the good men are either taken or gay, a man has an advantage here too!We are not standing on the shoulders of giants, but on very tall tower of other dwarves.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
hey all, I'm randomly returning. I don't think I have posted since part 4.
So anyways... I'm sitting here at my parents place (visiting for Easter) and decided to post and ask how people who are not out to their parents, either with regard to sexual orientation, gender identity etc. deal with the off hand comments that might come up from them. So comments that affect directly your own hidden identity. For example, my mom made some kind of gender normative comments today and I snapped back with some gender theory, but don't think anything sunk in. Though I'm an ivory tower intellectual
Anyways, hope everyone is doing well"In those halcyon days I believed that the source of enigma was stupidity. Then the other evening in the periscope I decided that the most terrible enigmas are hose that mask themselves as madness. But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth." -Casaubon, Foucault's Pendulum

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Well, yeah, they're parents. By the time someone is past 40 you can't really change them at all barring some heavy and invasive violation of human rights or more luck than a system devoid of miracles has any right to. By the time they're past 50, the only thing one can do is wait for them to die or speed the process up.
Though if they're politicians there might be political leverage that can be applied to their behavior if not their belief.

Ostien: Awkward silence has served me well in this area. Like, when a parent makes a comment about how a friend of the family's daughter looks like a boy and might be transsexual and I have to keep myself from mentioning that I been awkwardly flirting with her/him at work. .-.
Blackfox: Yay! Blackfox snuggles! *snuggles*
Now, I see things as being the opposite. As a guy, you have to woo the girl you are interesting in. You have to prove your superiority and worthiness of dating. As a girl, you just have to look pretty to have guys interested.Still not really here. Still just an illusion.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
The good women are pretty much taken, too, in my experience.
This only really applies to first contact. (Mind you, a lot of shy people have the most difficult with precisely that, but still.) I've known more than a few women that really don't comprehend that keeping a guy for more than a one-night stand requires more than looks."'Intelligence' is really prolific in the world. Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
Well, there's your problem right there. You should have a decided lack of urge to share anything with your parents about flirting with anyone. In fact, it's usually an urge against ever sharing anything about one's sexual urges with one's progenitors. Even amongst ostensibly normal heterosexuals.
Oversimplification and forgetting of the lives of humans FTW. To get slept with or knocked up, a woman merely has to catch a guy's eye and be receptive, which, even then, is not always so simple as just being genetically blessed to be smoking hot. To actually have a relationship, a woman has to somehow keep a guy's interest.
Someone who's vapid and slutty and relies solely on looks to get attention... Well, for one thing they're likely going to be bad in bed if they have that kind of attitude about interpersonal relations, being more of the lay there and take it like a dead frog variety. Two, most of the people who see this and proceed anyway are going to just play the use for sex angle. Which has a fair bit of overlap with that set of people who don't care if one's partner is just laying there like a dead fish.
Y'know, that whole thing evolutionary biology thing people referencing. Where the women want one mate to stay loyal to them to provide aid and resources for the young, while men have the opposite drive to have as many mates as possible in order to maximize number of offspring at a go.

Re: LGBTitp - Part Six
...which is in turn complicated by the often-conflicting female drives to find both a stable mate and good genes, and the male need to be sure that "his" offspring actually is his.
