Default The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0061 - #0070)

Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 61 through 70.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here.

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here.

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on July 6th, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, 51 Stupid Isn't Always Cute outlasted the rest and emerged victorious. Who will it be this time? Only you can decide that.

There are a total of ten strips that are looking for personal validation. Which one of them will be the winner of....

    70. Probably the best joke in the first arc.

R.I.P Zz'dtri. You'll always be the best the LG ever had in my opinion. 'Tis a shame you weren't defeated by V in an epic battle of wizards.

#61 is one of my favorite strips in both of the first two books. I love how Nale's overly vicious and petty immaturity is perfectly countered by Elan's more innocent immaturity.

Hmm, difficult to choose between "Deny the psychopathic egomaniac", V defeating Z through the lawyers, and Celia being transmuted to stone for a thousand years. Hmm, I think I'll go for 65 for now.

None of these strips are personal favorites...I suppose I'm torn between 61 (for Elan blowing a raspberry that segues into song) and 62 (for the first reference to the IFCC, which I'm thinking the Giant didn't realize the full implications of yet).

    I'll go for 62, I suppose.

Which incidentally means that the first 7 votes on the thread were all for different pages.

    A toss-up between 66, 67 and 68, but I'll go with 66.

"what am I, chopped liver? / now is not the best time" are great, and Elan participating as a bonus!

E: +1 for trivia too, Porthos! Keep'em coming.

Hm. Close call between 61 and 69, for me. Elan's earliest fights with Nale are still pretty epic, by the standards of the early strips, compared to the other characters' fights.

    I think I'll go with 69 because it's a little funnier.

Elan's moral debate over whether to let Nale die or to save him is the first step towards Elan's character growth (which has led to such great moments as the escape from Cliffport, Therkla's death, Elan's reaction to V's callousness at Therkla's death and Elan breaking free of the Lotus Eater trap). Plus it has a Modron in it, and Modrons are comedy gold!

Really tough selection this week, as each of our heroes has a chance to shine against their evil opposite. Everything here is a contender. Belkar's new hat, Roy venting his frustration at Elan, Elan getting the better of his brother and then having a moral deabte about how to deal with him are all great.

Comes down to Nale's faking out of Celia in 70 and V's inventive way of winning her duel with Z in 65, and Elan's beating Thog with his only illusion in 66. Ok, 65 by a hair. Ask me tomorrow and I'd probably say something different.

I think you made a tactical error there, Nale.
Oh really? You think I can't take you?
Maybe. Maybe not. But I do know one thing: I've been suppressing the urge to beat the crap out of someone who looks EXACTLY like you for a long, long time.

Cue Nale running for dear life.
