Default The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0091 - #0100)

Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 91 through 100.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here.

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here.

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on July 27th, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, 90 Consequences of a Failed Skill Check screamed to all who could hear that it was victorious. Who will it be this time? Only you can decide that.

Gather round 'vrybody and vote for whom you think is the most deserving. As we find out just who will be the winner of....

I vote for the 91.. (Also, OP, it still says "this week we are covering the comic strips 81-90".)
Can only thank GitP for being so good for so long.

Man, I'm cheesed about Durkon's breakup going down last round. I thought that was handily the best strip of the first 100 -- certainly the strip in that bunch that has stuck with me the most over the years.

Anyway, Team Evil gets some amusing entries this round -- I did enjoy their quiet reaction to Xykon's voice-impairment.

I think I'll go for 91, though, for its complete absurdism and the parody of the advertisements in comic books of yore.

My favorite thing about the page is that Fruit Pie inexplicably knows Elan's name.

#96. I'm not really all that bothered about any of them to be honest, but that's probably my favourite of the bunch.

Edit: Actually, #92 is pretty good too. I'll still stick with #96 though.

94 - It reminds me too much of good times in Dorukan's Dungeon (OOTS Adventure Game), I love the nonchalant way they proceed through each corridor, and the "aforementioned sulfur fumes" line is hilarious and excellently delivered.

#091 is when the comic first grew out of silly gags and moved onto mature, serious storytelling. Whenever people write off OOTS as a "just a stick figure comic" I show them this strip to change their mind.

If people instead of individual strips could win this thread, you would have just done so.

Anyway, I vote for 92: Reading Is Fundamental. Still love that running gag. Although the "Speak With Dead" moment is equally golden.

This is actually a really hard batch for me, a lot of them are hilarious. But I think ultimately I have to go with 94, if only because it's just so darn funny all the way through.

I'm tempted to go for 98 or 99 since they are the only ones without votes, and they are in fact above average. But 96 is so much better.

A mixed bag this week. 91 is gloriously absurd, 92 features one of my favourite running gags, 93 is a strong contender if only for the teen-speak and the Dark Mistress Shadowgale panel. On the other hand, 94 and the Team Evil strips are kinda meh (the "what gates?" thing is probably my least favourite running joke), although 95 is great. The rest are above average (the teengoblin idea is fun), but not outstanding.

I'll go for 93. Love that poster in Haley's room.

I'm a bit bumped that 84 lost , but the show must go on.

I initially wanted to vote for Team Evil (most likely 95), but on a second thought I'm voting for 98 - Mmmmm...Tasty (Perhaps because I had some barbeque yesterday? )

    91!

A great spoof of the classic comic book ads for Hostess fruit pies and snack cakes from the 1970's and '80's! Doesn't quite top the space hillbillies who invaded Asgard to battle the Mighty Thor, only to be calmed down by gentle Sif serving them Hostess Cherry Pies, or that one where the Hulk murders a street gang by rolling them in a chunk of the street, while kids grin and enjoy their snacks, but the stabbing of Fruit Pie the Sorcerer evokes those bizarre ads. A shame that Hostess is currently as dead as Fruit Pie the Sorcerer, but the Chapter Eleven reorganization may be pulled off yet! Stay tuned, True Believers! Excelsior!

Ahg, I really wanted to go 92 for the Explosive runes gag that would have one of the greatest pay-offs later in the strip, but I'm going with 95 just for the great comedic writing.

95 for sure. Our first real look at the magnificant bastard personality Xykon would end up with.

On a side note, I just realized that, in #98, Belkar says "This, sir, is no acid" when, in fact, BBQ sauce IS an acid. A weak acid, but acid nonetheless.

There are two clear standouts for me, and they're two of the Team Evil strips, #95 and #96. I'm torn. #95 has the best individual moment of the bunch (Speak With Dead), but #96 is funnier throughout...eh. I'll go with #96: Gate? What Gate? because it's pretty much our first real introduction to the MitD (his personality was pretty nebulous before this).
