Re: Raiser's Rambunctiously Rambling Random Banter #98
First off: I don't swear, but I can give a rousing Huzzah!, hope you like it. I also guess you're not doing Edexel board right? Because I know that board does Russia and stuff.
Second: I. Want. The. Cat-Muffinmicon. Now.
Third: Never seen Kim Possible. Doesn't matter anyway as I don't have Sky and had to leave the house at six twenty this morning.
Why?
Couldn't be bothered revising yesterday or the day before, you get the picture so I went in early this morning. And revised for four hours from eight thirty.
On Wolsey and Henry VII.
And I think I did pretty well in my exams. Here's to Luck! and me getting good marks.
And I'm so tired because I was definitely still awake at one thirty am. Did I mention I woke up at five am?
And for the past week have actually been waking up at nine or later.
Tired. Sleep. Sleep good.
And I can't get these songs out of my head.

*headdesk*
You mentioned a retake too. Curses. Should have remembered that, it's just that every Modern History person took Russia today and noone I know took a retake.
Also: I. Finished. My. Exams. Today. All. Of. Them. =p
Oh, and I read all of Looking For Group yesterday (one reason I didn't revise) and I like it.

I have moved my computer from the living room to my bedroom, which is upstairs in a remote corner of the house. I'd forgotten how nice it is to be able to listen to my music without anyone complaining about the song. And to follow links to YouTube without worrying about bothering anyone else (or content).

Huzzah! for moving computers. And there's nothing wrong with those links. Perfectly normal and I love those songs.
Annoying if you're trying to write down how Wolsey's career shows the corruption of the Church in the early sixteenth century, but bleedin' amazing songs.

It was a scout trip, and I was the oldest one there, while the majority of the people were like, 11. Not to mention lots of mosquitos. I did learn a raw new way to start fires though, and finish all of my first class requirements

Aha. I was a scout once, but I never got to do anything close to that. Probably because the troop broke up after a month due to lack of attendance at meetings.

I'm spending four-hundred buck on a new home computer tht my dad and I will be putting together. I'll miss my current computer, but I need the extra RAM and proccessing power. This will have been the second time I'll have replaced my computer, so kudos!

I went to scout activities once. Just once. Never went again. I really don't think it was for me, since I'm not very good at physical/outdoor activities.
Several of my friends were scouts, though.

I came home and got on the computer after my roommate had left for work, and this is the screen he left it on. I found it humorous, had to share.

Was it like, photoshopped Youtube stuff, or did they seriously taser-ify some plastic toys?

And as for my roommate, it's his life's goal to construct a working lightsaber. I wish I was kidding.Last edited by mercurymaline; 2008-06-02 at 09:47 PM.

Re: Raiser's Rambunctiously Rambling Random Banter #98
It was special effects, but in order to have a real lightsaber, you'd need a contained plasma tube. This would be difficult.
In other, slightly Star Wars related, news; I want to see a movie with laser guns where the lasers are properly invisible. It would be like "Gah! What hit me? I didn't see a thing!"

Actually, I think any laser powerful enough to hurt people seriously would show up anyway. There's dust everywhere, and the dust would vaporise, heating the air(a buggerload), bending the light. It would also make little crackly noises when fired.

Re: Raiser's Rambunctiously Rambling Random Banter #98
I remember an "honourable mention" or somesuch on the Darwin Awards. Some big factory had a new industrial laser used for cutting through metal or somesuch. Some workers needed to line it up. In order to do this, two men stood holding a big slab of metal and another pointed it in their general direction - they'd be able to tell where the laser was by it burning through the metal. Or, you know, the people holding it.

Re: Raiser's Rambunctiously Rambling Random Banter #98
First, there was the universe, and down the hall and the to the left there was the universe's kitchen. Opposite is the bathroom.
In this kitchen work the four Old Chefs; Azerothy, The Fulcrum Of The Kitchen, who ordered the others about, Yog-Shuvoff, The Really Big Guy, who also ordered others about but was fat, Shub'Niftyhat, The Guy With That Hat We Liked, who baked stuff while wearing a top hat and Nyaralohtapdance, The Mad Saxophonist, who apparantly played jazz at this place down the street when he wasn't working. These chefs prepared the meals of the everything.
Also in this kitchen where three other cosmic beings; the two Trainees, Cat'Thilli, The Dude, who said Aaaaayyyeee a lot, and his friend Righton, That Fish Guy, who also prepared tuna. There were also Them Elder Rubber Plant Thingies With The Eyes That Sang In A Man's Voice But All Had Girls' Names And Thate Guy Carl. We Liked Car. He Was Cool. Had A Beard... Damn Rubber Plant Thingies. These Rubber Plant Thingies sat on the shelf in a miniature kingdom built by their servants, the Fraggloths.
The Old Chefs baked us, the first muffins, and put us on the side until later so we could cool. Then somebody stuck cat ears and tals on us for a laugh. We think it was of those trainee guys, probably Cat'Thilli. This accidentally gave us sentience and we spent a lot of time arguing why we were here, what we should do, and mourning Carl. Eventually one of the Old Chefs realised we were talking telepathically and threw us in the trash because "Customers don't like sentience". Luckily the trash was actually a portal, and we ended up on Earth where we began multiplying and spreading across the world.
And then you evolved. Couldn't wait, could you?

Re: Raiser's Rambunctiously Rambling Random Banter #98
It seems there was a gas explosion at the bottom of the street I live, in the early hours of the morning. I slept through it but my mum and brother were woken up by it. Apparently there was a build up of gas from the pipes and a manhole cover flew off and landed in the tarmac, cracking it slightly... Then the police came and put it back on, which caused another explosion with a flash. The fire brigade arrived to do whatever and my next door neighbour had to remind them to switch their fire engine's engine off as they left it on next to the gas pipes. The incompetence!
It's a shame I slept through it, but I would have ended up falling asleep during my exams later on today if I did get woken up.

"Customers don't like sentience" - this is holy truth. I hate any foodstuff that can plead for mercy. Screaming I don't mind; but pleading ruins the appetite.

Re: Raiser's Rambunctiously Rambling Random Banter #98
From today's Times: maths exam questions for 16-year-olds
July 1951:
Solve the equation:
9 (1 - x^2 ) / (1 + x^2) - 7 ( 2x / (1 + x^2) ) = 3
SpoilerMultiply by (1 + x^2), rearrange and solve to get x = 1/3 or -3/2.
July 1960:
(i) If x + 2 = 0, find the value of the expression
3(x + 3)(x + 1) / (x - 1)
(ii) Divide 6a^3 - 5a^2 - 3a + 2 by 2a - 1.
(iii) If the expression 9y^2 + kyz + 16z^2 is a perfect square, find the value of k.
Spoiler
(i) 1
(ii) 6a^3 - 5a^2 - 3a + 2 = (2a - 1)(3a^2 + Ca - 2) for some C. Comparing coefficients of a^2 gives -5 = 2C - 3, so C = -1.
(iii) (3y + 4z)^2 = 9y^2 + 24yz + 16z^2, so k = 24.
July 1970:
(i) Solve the simultaneous equations
x^2 - y^2 = 28
x - y = 7
(ii) Show that (x - 3) is a factor of x^3 - 5x^2 - 18x + 72
Without drawing a graph, find the values of x at the three points where the curve y = x^3 - 5x^2 - 18x + 72 meets the x-axis.
Spoiler
(i) 28 = x^2 - y^2 = (x + y)(x - y) = 7(x + y)
Hence x + y = 4, x - y = 7 and x = 11/2, y = -3/2.
(ii) (x - 3) will be a factor if 3^3 - 5*3^2 - 18*3 + 72 = 0, which it does.
We now have one root of the cubic, so:
x^3 - 5x^2 - 18x + 72 = (x - 3)(x^2 + bx - 24) for some b.
Expanding the right hand side yields b = -2.
Solving x^2 - 2x - 24 gives the other two roots as 6 and -4.
June 2000:
A hemispherical bowl has a radius of 30cm. Calculate the volume of the bowl. Leave your answer as a multiple of pi.
Spoiler
(4/3).pi.(30 cm)^3 / 2 = 18,000 pi cm^3
It's important to bear in mind that standards have risen over this time.
