    Brace yourself for another metaphor

Think of a universe as a layered cake. Each of the layers is a different plane, but they are all still in the same cake. The alternate universes would be the cakes that look similar to the first cake.

As far as I understand it, Avbaroy is IN the Material Plane. So are other planets and universes (like, say, Earth). The Ethereal Plane and The Plane of Shadow are connected to the Material Plane, otherwise where would the shadows and mists come from?
At least, I know that about the Shadow Plane. Not so sure about the Ethereal...

Mist is a phenomenon of small droplets suspended in air, and shadow is an area where direct light from a light source cannot reach due to obstruction by an object.

This is a painfully egocentric viewpoint, full of scientific errors, lacking in empirical evidence and completely impossible ! You should acknowledge that all of your "planes" are sub-atomic realities within the galactic core of the Milky Way Galaxy !

Seriously though, I think the "planet within a plane" concept is the most rational for our purposes.

Fixed it for you. A plane is a flat surface with no thickness.

Yeah, but the Ethereal Plane is what lets those droplets suspend, and the Plane of Shadow is what makes those objects capable of obstructing light.

Doesn't really matter what kind of cake as long as there are layers in it.

And Mad Mask, you can't really turn a magical setting into science, no matter how hard you try. For that matter, we don't even really know how this universe works.

Alright, so there's a sci-fi fantasy setting. But ABR is Dnd based.

Care to state how some of the simpler DnD spells work then in science terms, say Dancing lights?

Nano-bots that respond to hand gestures and verbal commands, given to some lucky hominids for unknown reasons by an alien species (with cloaking technology), can create such effects by making minuscule but powerful flash lights.

I smell bull****. You know why ? Because magic existed before science (well...plot 3 aside...you know) ...and not every mage is an engineer.

How does one make a flashlight look like spheres or humanoid shape?

@grem, i think lying wants the next thread since he didn't get to make this one.

MM, Avbaroy is a mostly-fantasy setting. It has some Sci-Fi, but don't try to make it all one genre. Otherwise, I'll cease to enjoy this. Let fantasy be fantasy and Sci-Fi be Sci-Fi.

I wasn't serious when I mentioned the nano-bots, you know. I don't mind Avbaroy being a fantasy planet. All I care is the setting has at least some originality and is not just a rippoff of the D&D cosmology.
