”That’s the thing, you shouldn’t be saying that.” He reached out to her timidly, as if she were a dangerous animal. ”I’m fine.”
”We saw you talking to nothing. We’re worried about you.”
”I was talking to Mama. She was a spirit.”

I bet Cristo refers to Berserk.

Cristo refers to The Slayers.
Berserk is far to serious to properly represent the pal--err...blackguard and my relationship. Plus I've never actually seen it...Last edited by Cristo Meyers; 2009-01-10 at 06:25 PM.

Our relationships would best be described by... I'm not really sure what, but it would have to be pretty bizarre.

PALADIN!
This does link to Falling, maybe I'll archive Falling into this as well . . . but I digress; he may or may not Fall in this series.
People're only trying to make him (and others) Fall/convert to evil.
And I kind of feel sorry for Mordokai as he's a blackguard equivalent in so many series now.

Re: Shipping V: The Squick and The Dead
Alrighty then. I've had this scene kicking around in my head since I decided where to set this series, and it's good to finally write it and get it out of my head to make room for the next idea.
Chance Encounters
What If? part 3
Destro/RHL (Appearance by Draken)
SpoilerNo matter what the signs said, no library was ever completely quiet. Pages were shuffled, footsteps fell, and people talked softly off in the corners and around the tables. Destro had found himself a stack of books, some on illusion, his worst subject, but mostly on necromancy, his best one. He was seated by himself off to one side, paging through a text on the more basic hand movements associated with illusions. He had a few sheets of paper with him, but he had yet to take any notes. His thoughts were on other matters.
Necromancy especially, he had always been good at. The books he had found on that were new, just in this week. They were also more advanced than the ones he was used to. Destro had said he meant to be ahead of the game, and he did. Most of the others in his class would be unable to animate dead creatures as skeletons, but Destro had gotten in some practice on a few dead rats he found back home. He still couldn't get them to do more than limp about feebly though, which was why he was here.
The young wizard pushed the illusion book aside. He would take that one with him and read it later. The newest of the three necromancy books was opened, and he had just started going over the section on creating undead servants when he was interrupted.
Are you using that?
Huh? Destro looked up. Rabbit was standing next to his table, pointing at the next book on the stack.
That one. You using it? she repeated.
Oh, no. Sorry. Go ahead. Destro had meant to take it out, but he could wait.
Thought so. Rabbit picked the book up and started to walk away.
What's that supposed to mean? He didn't really expect her to answer, and was vaguely surprised when she looked back.
You don't seem to be the necromancy type.
Funny. It's my best subject.
Rabbit only shrugged. Takes all kinds, I guess.
I could say the same thing. You don't really seem like necromancer material either.
Yeah? Tell me. You animated anything yet? The smug way she said it made it clear enough what she thought the answer was. Well, he would surprise her.
I have, in fact.
That got her attention. What? She asked.
A few rats and the occasional beetle. How about you? Destro grinned. He figured she wouldn't be able to top that.
Birds, mostly. Though once I got lucky and found a dead dog I could work with.
The grin vanished, replaced by more careful respect. I'm impressed.
It was nothing special. Anyways, I have a class I need to get too. So I'll see you later. For the second time, she started to walk away. Destro quickly gathered his things and hurried to catch up.
You're taking the advanced Necromancy class?
Yes.
Me too.
They had gotten louder as they approached the library door, gaining glares from a number of the other students, not to mention Draken. The insectile horror glanced up from behind his desk. Those are new books, you know. I'll have your head if they come back damaged.
Soul too, I assume? I'll be careful with them.
hmph. Draken looked back down at his stack of papers, and Destro glanced back over at Rabbit.

Re: Shipping V: The Squick and The Dead
Personally, I feel librarians on the whole are a force for good in the world. Books should be respected.
I like Draken's History Lesson. Nice little mythology.
After much thought, I have embarked upon a new shipping project: Adaptations of Gilbert & Sullivan operettas into shipfics. HMSPinaforeShip-a-more Act I Part 1 is already finished, but at this time of night I can't be bothered with sorting out all the formatting, so you will all have to wait."'But there's still such a lot to be done...'

Re: Shipping V: The Squick and The Dead
Slayers happens to be one of the few anime I can stand. In fact, besides it and Cowboy Bebop, the only other anime I own is Nausicaä.
Well, I have thought about looking more at Hellsing and Wolf's Rain, but the price tags are just too outrageous for me to justify an idle curiosity.
I think I'll get the Gummi Bears and/or Darkwing Duck instead.
I always identified the most with power-hungry, angsty Zelgadis and creepy, tormenting Xellos. In RL I'm probably far too much like Philionel to be healthy, though. >.<

Re: Shipping V: The Squick and The Dead
A Letter
SpoilerI'm significantly less likely to lose my temper when you're around. I smile far more frequently, I laugh much more easily.
And yet, the idea of falling in love with you terrifies me.
It would be easy, if I let myself. I'd become enamored, doting. I'd lose myself in the pools of affection formed just for you, dripping drops of passion just for you.
You'd compliment me perfectly, with your sunny disposition, if I just allowed myself to discard this unreasonable (or perhaps it has all the reason I can muster) fear.
I'm not even sure how I managed to fool you into my darkness in the first place...and there I go. Angst. Drama. I'm trying not to let this fall into melodrama, I'm just attempting to explain...
I love you. I could easily fall in love with you, rekindle my broken faith in romance. But, as cliche as it sounds, I would rather not have it broken again. You can only glue shattered ceramics together so many times before it doesn't adhere anymore. The feeling of falling is grand, ecstatic; its the hitting the ground that's awful.
You can promise me all you'd like it'd be different, but that doesn't ease the feelings in my stomach.
But I wish you could. I want you to.
This entire scribble has been my attempt to talk myself out of it. But I'm going to try.
I want to fall in love with you.
I'm going to try to let myself do so, but I need your help. I need you to be patient; I'm a demanding person to love, I know. I'm sorry ahead of time for all the diva-fits I'll throw, for all the unnecessary tears I'm going to cry; I hope it isn't too taxing on you. I apologize for my temper, which you have yet to see, and for my fickle crushes, which come and go much like the days rise and die. You'll have to love me very much for me to love you. It isn't fair. Unfortunately, its the way I work. I'm self-sabotaging and enjoy nothing more than making myself miserable, and, in the process, I might make you miserable, as well.
I hope not. I'd hate to hurt you, in any manner.
So, here I beg you. Hold my hand, calm me. I'm facing my biggest fear, in hopes that maybe, perhaps, that true love I don't believe in in the slightest may actually exist. And, maybe, it might possibly be you.
Mmm...
Maybe?
There might be a few more ships along later tonight and early tomorrow.
"This is why it hurts the way it hurts.

GOODWILL TOWARDS MEN KICK!
Evidently, his name was Zangulus...had to look that one up. Didn't he end up getting hitched with green-haired, psychotically-vengeful Martina?
Years ago, I actually started writing a fanfic about Dilgear trying to make good on his promise to avenge himself after he came back to life.
But perhaps I've said too much...

Um, uh...in other news...the archive's updated! Yay!?
Few fics today, but quality ones, all.
@Curly: Thanks to Cristo's comments () and the previous installment, I found this quite humorous. All-in-all, another fine drabble. And very colourful with all the wonderful dialogue, too. But...is it kind of weird that I'm appraising the aesthetics of a piece of literature? Eh, my first degree was in English and art... Also, I've restructured your section of the archive a bit, mostly to make things easier on myself when making updates, but I hope you like how I've set it up.
@Destro: I rather like this series, can't wait to see what Possiblity has in store for the cast. Also, I much enjoyed your cameo version of me for the series - Illusion and Transmutation are my favorite schools of magic. And your description of me was quite apt - but who can say what one really looks like when they exist as a Transmutation wrapped in an Illusion?
@RHL: *expresses avuncular solidarity*

Who would like to ship David Kith? Or he could ship you since his job is a pun based on the other meaning for shipping. Who can guess where I got the character idea from? No, it's not from this forum.

Re: Shipping V: The Squick and The Dead
Hey, I'm new here. I got some questions:
So, can I just write a story about two playgrounders, or do I have to sign up somewhere? Do the stories always have to be romantic, or can they just be anything? Is there a specific setting, or is it pretty much just 'in the playground'?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Shipping V: The Squick and The Dead
In order to be 'shipped, the people you wish to write about have to have given permission. The permissions list is here. Note that some Playgrounders have specific do/do nots to be mindful of.
Some fics are romantic, others aren't so much. Ideally, there will be at least one romantic-ish pairing in a fic but it certainly hasn't always been the case. Note that the first post in this thread lays down the basic rules to be followed. It has become acceptible to post love letters in this thread as well, even if no specific Playgrounder is the intended recipient (or even the sender).
