I was probably a right fine b***h today. Had a rose delivered to my ex (who works in the same place I do) with a letter attached. I told a friend of mine to snatch the letter when it arrived and read it out loud in the break room. He did.

Much laughter ensued while my ex was insanely ticked off.

Needless to say it's a love letter that goes on about their time together and how their first kiss was magic. (He was probably thinking it was his current SO) then at the end... It said 'Love now and forever, John."

He spent the rest of the day being teased.

It was a bit petty of me... But I don't care! It was hilarious!

I was using the classic stereotype that the smart guy suffers from the dumb guy in the beginning and then gets his revenge where it matters.

I think this calls for a scene from my hopefully coming-soon comic that I've been working on.

Never heard of, but the author's meant to be good though.

French poet right? This is meant to be his best work. Hearty nods of encouragement and an 'I'm a -gonna thief that off you' nature.

Read some of that in shop last week. Looked good, I may by it when I have the cash.

Paradise Lost - Milton

Lovely boy, lovely. It'll be a bit hard to get into if you got the poem layout (and you'd have too!) and there's no speech marks, them not having been invented yet, and there'll be some omplicated stuff in it. But that's what notes and glosses are for, yes?
Only got into Book Four at the moment, it got lost and/or stolen by a coursework demon, so I'm behind. Epically good though.

THE PERSIAN WARS! Another excellent choice my operatic, classical music deity; if you like Herodtus may I also suggest Suetonius' Twelve Caesars; Hesiods' Theogeny and Tacitus' books in general. Specifically the Annals and the Historie?
Yet again, this is another book I covet.

Doctor Faustus And Other Plays - Marlowe

Ah, Shakespeare's rival, until he was murdered. I've only heard good things about Faustus, but I haven't seen/read much of any of his other plays. Would you recommend?
You'd possibly like Webster as well. We're doing The Duchess of Malfi in E Lit (the play I insinuated the les yay in); it's full of corruption, twincest, murder, spying, secrets, twincest, insanity, more secrets and murder and twincest. And a ghost. It's also a satire of Jacobean courts.
It's totally Senecan tragedy. With a bit of Greek thrown in for good measure.

It's not bleak. It's just realistic. If anything, the knowledge that I'm just gonna end up in the dirt inspires me to do something meaningful and important with my life while I can more than it depresses me.

Some people look at life differently I suppose. Life can either be something you should take slow or a competition to see who wins. Yet in the end, there are no winners, sure some live better lives than others, but we all arrive at the same end I suppose.

New or old A Levels? Can't believe I'm doing old A Levels now. But envy is felt immensely. I alo say: buy a copy of the full text online somewhere that's the same translation as the one your exracts are from. It's a great read, and you get more source material and impress your teachers.
Trust me, I bought my own Last Day of Socrates, am borrwing Female Classics Friends' copy of Aristophanes' Clouds that she bought 'specially for the coursework and some other stuf too.
I may even buy my own copy of The Duchess of Malfi. It's a great play. And Long Leather Coat Classics Guy's going to send us all an invite to this special book circulation thingy where you can buy brand new books for £1.50 and shipping has a flat rate of £3 no matter how many books you order. Guess what?
We plan to abuse that privilege.

But again I tangent. Sort of. You're really only staring your coursework then? For all mine we've been working on them for at least half a term. Strange people you are. Isn't final submission date in March/mid - April?
