~40 minutes. I didn't expect it to take so long. But I'm quite pleased with it so I guess the time I wasted searching for reference poses paid off.

Really? The ONLY time it gets humid in Minnesota is the summer. It's always either dry and too cold to breath through your nose, or so hot and muggy you can cut the air with scissors. And the approx. seven days of beautiful transitional weather in the spring.

All the pictures in this thread are very nice. Xykon looks about as dangerous as musty styrofoam in your pic, Kaytara, but I guess that's a part of his act. (And what's that mark on Tsukiko's face? )

the particular type of compliment involving some form of "I wish I were as talented" always makes me cringe. Drawing skill is just work per time. (Which, I guess, would make it equal 'Power'... :P) The funny thing about drawing is, if you practice, you WILL get good at it, period. There's no real way around it. It's actually one of the easiest skills to learn, I think. Step one, throw away all those mental things you use to make drawing "easy", including drawing tutorials, oddly enough. Step two, practice a few hours every day for a few years. (Drawing at school is great for that. :D) There's no way to practice like that without improving, (and you know for sure you've improved simply if you look at something you did a year ago and it looks absolutely horrible to you and you can spot a dozen glaring mistakes) so you will get at least somewhat adept at depicting things. Envying drawing skill just means envying the time someone deliberately invested, which doesn't make much sense, because if they could invest that time so could you, in theory.

Also, skill mostly goes hand-in-hand with dedication. So learning to draw is mostly just becoming increasingly frustrated until you're obcessed/dedicated enough to just keep drawing until something starts looking right.

Artistic talent is something I would associate with a certain savvy, an instinctive understanding of how to draw things to make them work best colour and composition-wise. And writing - as in, coming up with poignant and interesting plotlines that tie together neatly in just the right way - is also something I think is more tied to talent than skill.

But drawing is just a matter of practice. :D

Maybe one way to make him scarier is to color his pupils red. The contrast between the black and white sketch and the eyes, the only colored part of the whole picture, might have made him scarier.

Exactly. While practice doesn't make perfect, it inevitably makes better. To quote Khelgar from the infamous Neverwinter Nights 2, there's always room for improvement, if you apply yourself, stay focus and keep swinging drawing.

(And lack of practice makes rusty. Oy, my poor abandoned drawing skills.)

It started out as a stupid dream about computer viruses eating people. Then I woke up. Then the computer viruses came back. Then I stumbled around familiar places while people I know were mean to me. There was a bit where I kept not being able to remember what I'd been doing, I just suddenly found I'd drawn lots of stuff. See, that's why you're an artist and I'm not. All my nightmares are about me wandering the streets of Gothenburg naked, re-doing my old exams and failing mightily, or both. If I was an artist I'd have weird nightmares to.
