Anyway. Yeah. I've decided that if I can continue, I'll probably be sticking with my designs. I really don't want to spend too much time worrying about things - this little project was supposed to be a stress-reliever and practice on my manga drawing while I was at it. If I get too worried about sticking close to the source material, it'll feel more like work than play. It'll probably last longer if I enjoy working on it too.

As for the exaggerated facial features... I grew up alongside manga, you see. It's completely different in Asia as opposed to Western cultures. Every bookstore you went to had manga in the aisles, and every kid reads it. I grew up alongside these exaggerated facial features (the facial expressions in children's manga are even crazier), and so don't cringe at all when I see them. I can understand why some of you might feel differently, but please realize that manga originated in a different culture, and people have different experiences with it. If you want to read more mature manga, which lacks the exaggerated emotions and have deeper emotional depth, there are plenty out there. I personally suggest Pluto, which is totally awesome. It's one of the best Seinen manga I've ever read.

As for works similar to my style... I can't say for sure, but I have been inspired by a variety of works. My number one inspiration is One Piece, secondary Fairy Tail. If you take a look at them, especially their latest chapters, you can see just how far I have to go. A couple others that I enjoy include Negima, Hajime no Ippo... Well, I read way too much manga to list it all out here.

    Actually...

The 1930s brought around Betty Boop. With her big head and eyes, it quickly caught on with Japanese artists such as Osamu Tezuka (Atom Boy). The new animation style was popular and was improved constantly until the 80s, when most of us came around to watching Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Samurai Pizza Cats, Ronin Warrior and those other Saturday morning cartoons that these young bucks take for granted.

Of course, all that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy One Piece. I just remember that the style originated in the west but it went east and was tweaked until it became a challenge. Now it's taking over. Like the Spy in TF2, it's coming for you!

I apologize for bringing this up... but think you missed the point of his explanation.

He's talking about manga and comics, and in particular how he is used to the presentation of the exaggerated expressions as an explanation why it doesn't seem out of place or style for him to use it.
He isn't talking about 'big eyes and small mouths' or 'the origin of comics' - it's the presentation of emotions, like surprise, or despair, the manner in which it is done and the timing. These things are different culturally.
And I have to agree...I did not have any negative reaction to the inclusion in the scenes that were talked about and which he is responding to. But I grew in Asia, so there may be some truth to it. It's a part of the presentation style you are used to when you grow up with the medium.

It's not about claiming who invented anything.

Nope, its people watching the images on other sites (giantitp.com) and thus stealing Elagunes allocated bandwidth. (will reset in January)

I would recommend the people who use avatars and banners to host them themself instead of using Elagunes.

Or we could just start raising money to give Elagune the photobucket-pro account.

Not so good idea. It would not do for Elagune to profit from Rich's intellectual property, even indirectly.

You know what? I'd feel sad about this, but this is the first time it's ever happened to me. Can I say 'milestone'?

But honestly, any suggestions on what to do now? I feel bad about leaving you guys hanging like this, and I have another page I want to be uploading soon. Is there another site or something that might be better for this?

EDIT: Oh man, this is a great time for this to happen. The mod who's going to be checking my fancomic thread soon will come across exactly two images going 'bandwith exceeded'. Hope they'll be understanding.

How many days more do you have until your bandwidth is renewed? It might be worth moving stuff onto an alt account...

In future, don't let people hotlink in signatures. Signature banners can get 500+ views a day each, and it eats up your bandwidth like wildfire.

Personally I would set up a second photobucket account just for the comic and maybe your personal avatar/banner, e-mails are easy enough to get.

Maybe you can reduce the images file-size? Less information to send means that more images can be sent.

Oh, and you could probably start the policy of "no quoting" your images (bandwidth) or using avatars/banners linked directly to your account (bandwidth again).

Sounds like a good idea. I've got 400+ images on my personal photobucket account anyway, and it's not like people are looking through them on a regular basis. Going to put everything on a seperate photobucket account and change all the links.

Is Roland St. Jude the one to talk to, then? Just making sure, because I'm pretty sure I heard the name Alarra being tossed around in an earlier page.
