There are times when I wonder what it was that I’d done that was so bad in my past life that karma decided that it would screw me over. It must have been something, because with the way my life has been going, I’m beginning to suspect that I was someone as bad as Jack the Ripper. Hell, for all I knew, I was the reincarnated Jack the Ripper.

It would explain my karma, certainly.

    What's it called?

    Probably.

    30 meaning... what, exactly?

I know it's fairly meaningless to say it, but it's no use worrying right now. I've had exams that I thought I failed but did very well on. I've had exams that I thought I passed with flying colors but crashed like a dragon without wings.

Besides, you are 16. Part of being 16 is making mistakes, and they rarely have life-long consequences. The gyrations I've made in the educational system has convinced me that there is always a way to your goal. It may be longer and more complicated than you thought, but it's there.

So don't be too hard on yourself, OK?

The fic in question is a Final Fantasy 7 Self-Insert fic.
And despite most self-inserts being horrible this one is actually quite good, lots of humor to.
Best damn fanfic i ever read.

Thing is, it's like the universe itself is out to screw him over in every way imaginable, such as the rope bridge in the Nibelheim mountains snapping while he was on it (He was going last, the rest of the party had already crossed)
or a prank going horribly wrong and ending with him in on the ground in agony.
Or being thrown of the side of Fort Condor by the Commander of the invasion force.
Or saying the wrong thing at the wrong time resulting in several very powerful people wanting him dead for having insulted them.
Or having the process of being transferred into the game world messed up in a way that results in it being a very bad idea to show himself in public (So much for staying incognito, no way to avoid unwanted attention when you look like he did after said incident)
Or the jerk responsible for him being there in the first place deciding to "Add things"
Said additions usually end in him getting his ass handed to him on a platter (And also removes the advantage of knowing everything in advance, since having the slightest detail be altered in any way can royally mess with the whole foresight thing a Self-Insert would normally have)

In short, his luck sucks, being a Fragile Speedster (See TV-Tropes) doesn't help much (One good hit, he's down)

His author skills are rather impressive though, he manages to dodge the Marty Stu thing very effectively and seems to have explanations for most of the stuff that happens, explanation that actually make sense for once too i might add.
Also, most of the humor is derived from his thought processes, since it's told from his point of view you often end up reading just what goes through his head, and it's some serious LULZ in there i tell you.

There's some info on the fanfic i mentioned.

...Wait...did i just advertise someone elses fic?

With the way this story is shaping up in my head, you won't see a lot of things coming, so I'm fine with a little predictability in the first few chapters.

Have you been paying attention to the school policies? There'll be cameras in the library! They won't be able to do anything!

But on a slightly more serious note, I'm going to try to make the development of this Redcloak/Vaarsuvius relationship just as realistic as the ItAoM, one. And these two are both virgins and don't feel ready for sex, so that lessens the impetus that sexual tension could provide. Right now, Redcloak is interested and quietly respectful of Vaarsuvius while V is defensive and wary of his intentions, so there's probably going to be a little more Slap Slap before the eventual Kiss. (I've spent too much time on TVTropes.)

Sadly enough, they aren't quite aware of how dangerous it would be to actually be in a relationship. The school's way more freaky about sex and the possibility of sex than it looks.

    BWA-HA-HA-HAA!

*coughs* Sorry. But I do have an actual reason for giving them weird names. It'll seem pointless for now, but don't worry, I'll tell the reader why soon enough.

First, as much as it was a sweet moment when Miko realized how soft Therkla's hands were, they probably wouldn't actually be soft. Not because she's a half orc, but because she spends most of her time holding weapons, pulling herself up over walls, climbing, etc. Her profession is really hard on her hands (and the rest of her!), but on the other hand (ha! a pun!), magical healing may remove scars and other blemishes, which is usually how I run it in campaigns. Judging by how O-Chul looks, it doesn't seem to work that way in the OotSverse, though.
Yeah, I kinda realized that a little while after posting. A lot of my rationalization was that Therkla would probably wear gloves for her line of work, which would protect them some, but not really enough due to the amount and degree of work she does for Kubota. It's a cute line, but yeah, you're right, it doesn't ring true.

Second, just a formatting issue. The little girl voice in Miko's head is a bit confusing to read. Personally, I think it'd look a little cleaner if the things it was saying were in italics, while everything else wasn't. example:

Run back into your hole, a small girl’s voice echoed in the depths of Miko’s mind. Hide and don’t come back you sinner you fool you murderer

Although, looking at it again with what seems to be an intentional lack of punctuation, maybe this is just a stylistic choice on your part. It still makes it a bit harder to read, though.
Thank you for bringing this up. As you state later, this was stylistic choice. I had wanted the little girl voice that speaks up in Miko's head to be a reflection of the way Miko used to think, specifically her judgmental side, aimed back at herself. That being the case, the voice Miko hears isn't rational to any appreciable degree; it basically chimes in with an arrow flight of words and then is gone.

Thing is, if it IS hard to read and detracts from the experience, then doing this in this style isn't worth it. When it gets to the point where style hampers substance, style can slide. Thank you for bringing this up.

Meh, just minor complaints. I think it's way better than my attempts to make Miko likable, which means I'll probably drop that fic for now in favor of finishing It All Started With A Kiss.
You don't give yourself enough credit, especially since it was your Miko/Roy story that first inspired me to bother trying one of my own. I have to admit, though, I'm really loving It All Started With A Kiss because of how well you have the Order's relationships down.

@Closak: Your newest stories are, uh, interesting as usual.

@Lycan 01: Hot pockets are a pretty powerful aphrodisiac amongst the undead. I'm surprised you knew that bit of lore.

@Sereg: I'm enjoying your stories as usual. I have to admit, I really loved "A Twisted Tail".

@NemoUtopia: Welcome to the thread. Your stories are a great addition, and I've really enjoyed "TnT" and "Miko's Heart". I think you're doing great with your characterization of Miko.

@Dark_Apprentice: Loved your Julio Scoundrel/Julia story.

@Cire II: Cute. I liked your first Miko/Durkon story as well.

Also, for the discussion about psychology a few pages back, I'll admit that I went to counseling myself when I was a child. Now, I'm studying psychology and criminology to work in the juvenile justice department when I graduate.

That may be, but I particularly like the "Inner thought" narrative. But other people may not.

Several pages ago, Lycan wrote a fanfic about the Eye of Fear and Flame getting off to Tsukiko eating a hot pocket. I thought this was common knowledge about the undead.

Yes, I suppose the school wouldn't want arguing in the library. It's supposed to be a place for quiet study.

And these two are both virgins and don't feel ready for sex, so that lessens the impetus that sexual tension could provide.
But they're also teenagers. (Or their species' equivalents, anyway.)

Sadly enough, they aren't quite aware of how dangerous it would be to actually be in a relationship. The school's way more freaky about sex and the possibility of sex than it looks.
There's always something in the way of their relationship, isn't there.

    BWA-HA-HA-HAA!

*coughs* Sorry. But I do have an actual reason for giving them weird names. It'll seem pointless for now, but don't worry, I'll tell the reader why soon enough.
Let me guess, they're all fugitives of some sort?

    And you keep laughing evilly.

It makes me worried. (Worried for your characters.)

You hate her THAT MUCH?! I kid, of course. I'd just use an seeming of undeath so she'd think I was undead and then take shameless advantage...but that's a fanfic for another day
