Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
Ugh.
How is it possible for a second year to have Fresher's Flu? Had it most of last week and through the weekend, and it lingers today.
It's not much, a cold, slight fever, chesty cough, sore throat, occasional queasy stretches and a disinclination to sleep or do anything.
Tutorial Partner got it too, hers lasted a day.
And during my tutorial my voice went completely and I was rasping like an old woman who'd been smoking since she was six.
All I did over the weekend was nothing but sleep, write up my analyses and an entire essay in what amounted to two and a half hours.
But we soldier on.
re: quilts.
I didn't get one when I was young, duvets or straight up blankets for me.
However, some of them were/are crocheted/knitted hand-me-downs that are up to forty-five years old. So history.
And of course, I got Sunshine Bear when I was born. Technically he was finished iust two days before my birthday, but his birthday is my birthday.
Hand-knitted and hand-stuffed too. But he's starting to unravel and I'm really quite panicky. I've hardly ever been a night without him, and chances are, if he's not there I'll have nightmares.
I don't want Sunshine Bear to fall apart.
ION:
Got to do my laundry today. But I don't know where the laundry room is. I know, in theory the rough location, but very little else. Plus I don't think I have enough money on my card.
IOON:
Girl across the street from me didn't bother to close her curtains before she started undressing. Glad I caught on before she took anything more off than her t-shirt.
I swear, she changes six times a day right in front of the window, which is almost directly in front of mine. I don't know about you, but I don't mind a bit of natural sunlight, and I hate having to yank my curtains shut every time she starts undressing.
Lady: close your own curtains.

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
Oh man. That reminds me of how there was a bathroom in a girl's dorm that looked out over the parking lot from the 2nd story. It was not frosted or anything. So one day I was walking through the parking lot and one of my friends called out to me from behind so I turned around and mid-turn I detected human nudity and turned to do a double-take after I had completely turned around.
Thankfully someone eventually contacted the appropriate people and the window was replaced.
Though why it was that way in the first place, I don't know.
Was kinda weird since I believe I was heading over to my then-girlfriend's dorm room for a booty call.

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
I approve of this solution.
You don't really have to have a webcam and don't really have to set it up for Chatroulette (even if it'd be really funny).
Just the threat of it should make her close the curtains, and your 'problem' would be solved.
ION: I'm back out in the real world again. I spent the last four days in my flat and only went outside the door once to go on a food run.
I had two days off from work Thursday and Friday, and I figured I'd catch up on some house work and some sleep.
Turned out I didn't go to bed until about 5-6AM either day, and spent my days playing Modern Warfare 2 on the XBox.
Back at work today, though. Can't get going again. Haven't managed to do anything productive at work. At all. I blame Archie for mentioning TV Tropes and getting me stuck there for most of the day.
Edit to add:
Well, if she enjoys it, then it's not a real problem, is it?

No curtains or anything? I mean, the bathrooms in my house don't have frosted glass, but they have blinds.
Good thing it got replaced though.

That or iust give up on direct sunlight altogether, officially become a vampire (or nocturnal) and get a night iob.
I don't even know what chat rouletter is, so I wouldn't know.
But it should work. For all five bedrooms I can see into (or partially into) from my window.
Don't worry. I didn't do any of my work during the holidays until perhaps two or three days before going back to uni.
And I was mostly nocturnal then. Slept through the mornings from about sixish to lunchtime.
As far as the real world goes . . . watch the Bubbles of Koorly:
One: a teenaged geek girl.
Two: hardly ever watches or reads the news.
Three: hangs out on the internet, or reads very 'odd' books.
Four: university student.
Five: the Camford bubble.
Six: the libraries of Camford.
Seven: Koorly's room at Camford.
Eight: Koorly's friends at Camford.
I'm so insulated from the real world it's unreal. See also: reluctance to go find out where the laundry rooms are, and the general absence of food in my room.
At least you got to play some games. I don't even do that much.
That site is a black hole. Time goes in, but nothing comes out but trivia.

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
You got it from a Fresher? Damn whippersnappers.
Got something of the sort myself. Started noticing it about an hour before my NUGSS audition on thursday. Great timing, huh?
N'awwww you're soo KYOOT.
I guess she likes some natural sunlight as well?
I feel like I should ask how attractive she is and make some sort of lecherous comment in iest. I blame my friends for this.
My Y7 English teacher once recounted a similar story about the men's changing rooms at the local swimming baths where she lived at the time. Though she saw it from the road, rather than the car park. So the dilemma - should she inform them, or find excuses to drive that way more often?
I don't actually remember if she told us which option she chose...
Ahah! You've moved onto this plane of existence!
Home, internet, G&S, occasional chess. No real life for Thufir.

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
I've only properly interacted with Freshers twice this term. Grrr. I blame them.
How'd the audition go by the way? It's for . . . Iolanthe at NUGSS this term right?
Don't make me pull out diabeetus Koorly.
All she'd have to do is close the curtains for five minutes to change.
As far as attractiveness goes, she's rather pretty. Dark brown hair, shoulder-blade length, I'm almost certain she straightens it. Nice pale skin.
A pretty pale skinned brunette, maybe three inches taller than me? I can't really tell from across the street.
Her figure's a bit boyish though, so it may detract from attractiveness.
Lech away good sir. Lech away.
Hehehe.
If she didn't say, then she didn't tell.
Well yeah, university's on this plane, so I change addresses every term time.
*hi-fives*
*sigh*
It's been four and a half hours - wow, I've done nothing at all during this time period except get sucked into a couple of black holes - so I'd better go return these books of mine. And as today was Tutorial Day I get a special treat dinner.
Question:
my throat is unbearably sore still (yes, I have honey and lemon water on standby), should I go to choir rehearsal today?
This term we're doing Bach's Christmas Oratorio, I've heard some of it - it's in German, so should I tax the throat or take it easy for the rest of the week and pick up choir next week?

ION: My uncle wants me to build him a web site. But the cheap thing to do would be to show him Blogger and explain to him how he can build his own blog with barely any cost at all.
I'm wondering if there's really anything I could do for him. I mean, I know that blogger can do this, and I know that it can use the domain name he's already bought.
This is why I could never be a professional web designer. -_-; I'm more apt to point people towards the several different free design sites that make my job obsolete than I am to take their job and look the other way.

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
Koorly is indeed verily cute, having met her IRL.
Also point out (shiny) things he could have added to his website that he might want.
I doubt that if they're coming to you as PROFESSIONAL web designer, that they merely have a fancy thought and said ''ooooh, shiny, let's go spend money on this!''
Oh wait, they're...people. Let me retract my words, because some people are likely to do that...
But anyway, if people do come to you, you can always point out extras that can be added.
Not to mention that having your own website which looks decent is a status icon. I've seen some absolutely horrid websites and some fancy blogs, yet the horrid website just has something because heck, a fancy blog can be made by anyone with enough time.
I mean, if I saw something interesting and a link to a website, I'd probably click it. If I saw something interesting and saw a link to something like ''Blogger'', then I'd think ''naaa''.
With a good designer and customer who has good ideas, you can turn a assignment that was just ment as something as say ''just a blog under our own domain, basically'' into a properly designed website which is easy to access and draws people.
YOU have to tell them from your PROFESSIONAL view what a website can do, and make them want it because it will help them/the thing they're representing.

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
...Oh wow. o.o That's actually exactly what I should do.
#<.<# Aaand now I'm embarrassed that I didn't realize that right away. ^^; Thanks DD.
I guess I could tell him about Blogger, but also the fact that he could have a front page and a few extra pages to lead into his blog as a supplement.
The thing is though, he has a domain name, so he can either use that for his blog or we can figure out a way to connect the domain name to his site and then link it to a Blogger.com blog.
And the other thing is, having only made like, two sites at best, and one of them having been on a Free Web Space server, I'm not actually sure what constitutes a good web hosting space. <.<; Supposedly he has a friend working on that who will be able to get back to him on that so that I can focus on just designing it for him though...
Which is basically what I can do for him.

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
No, Iolanthe is with a different society. NUGSS are doing The Grand Duke. Yet another society, which I will be ioining in iust under an hour (4/5 local G&S societies ioined...), are doing Yeomen of the Guard.
NUGSS audition was good. I didn't get particularly nervous about it, since I know all the relevant people, and my cold or whatever it is hadn't hit me in full force yet.
Although the revelations of what parts people actually want and auditioned for has totally thrown off my hypothetical male casting, so I'm really uncertain who will be who.
I'm not as good at it as certain of my friends, though.
She probably did. But I could believe that she didn't.
She was a really good and highly amusing teacher.
*Hi-fives back*
Personally, under those circumstances I would probably go, but only sing very quietly. So you get the benefit of rehearsing the music without aggravating your throat.

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
Naww...
I have this little yellow plush dog named "Gula Faran" (Or "Yellow Peril" in english. At first I called him "Gula Hunden" ("Yellow Dog"), but my grandfather came up with this name. I didn't learn what it stood for until much later, but it sort of stuck) which used to be my favourite. I can't recall how many times the ear fell off or he lost his tail, but my mum always sewed them back. Finally, I had to put him on my shelf and picked the pink hippo I have in my avatar instead. She's been my favourite ever since, and I now for sure that I sleep a lot better with her and without her. And she's so cozy and snuggly and warm...
Eight bubbles!? Nine!? That's a lot. I think I have seven:
School
Home
Internet (mostly restricted to here and a few other webcomics, as well as facebook every now and then)
Newspapers (read 'em every morning at breakfast, order of priority is comics > the letters (to fill my daily 'humans are morons' quota) > the news > perhaps some culture > never sports)
Board games club
Computer games
Some music
And I don't even know if the last one counts.
Most of the time, it feels like I'm living in a dream and dream about the reality. No wonder I'm having such a hard time coming up with a good topic for the chronicle I'm writing for my Swedish homework.
EDIT: Well, now the chronicle's done at least. Phew.Last edited by Teddy; 2010-10-18 at 03:21 PM.

English student high five.
Finally had a lecturer use the word 'trope', the other day. Made the depressing World War 1 poetry acceptable.
And making today's boring seminar was everyone getting back their portfolio's from last year; a collection of short stories with some link between them all.
And I couldn't help but notice that there were only Thirds and 2:2s in the room.
Ya know, Thirds and 2:2s...
In a room...
With my First.
Only my politeness is what stopped me from standing upon my table and performing a great and mighty gloating dance.
Also, Tim Evanson you are a lier with no knowledge of what makes good acting.
The director is currently my lecturer and she is God Awful.
