Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Sounds fun. I'd love to see Kylesa live, I must've listened to Static Tensions fifteen times in the last couple of months...
Justice was a good album, don't get me wrong. I'm not a fan of The Black Album, though. But Metallica's first three albums... man, I'm not really a thrash fan, generally, but those three albums are terrific. Especially Lightning and Puppets.
I'm not a fan of melodic metal in general. To each his own, right? Seriously, I don't understand why you guys react that way to people who have differing taste.Last edited by Moff Chumley; 2011-06-09 at 08:23 PM.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
It was quite good, though I left like 20 minutes into The Sword's set. It was a bit too Black Sabbath/Sleep-esque for me at the time, and a buddy of mine fell asleep during the set. I'm actually fairly certain that Kylesa played most, if not all, of the first half of Static Tensions. I know that they played Scapegoat, Unnatural Awareness, and Running Red. I believe that I recognized Insomnia For Months and Said and Done, as well.
Also, I had no idea that anyone in Kylesa could use a theremin.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I just mean I can't imagine how anyone could like Master of Puppets so much. The unnecessarily long songs which nearly loop themselves coupled with less amazing riffs than Lightning ... eh.
Lightning is the only Metallica album I still like, though. The rest just sounds too boring after my Megadeth binge.
I put it in small size because while it's madness to me doesn't mean that I think it's too serious. It's just put there at the end to needle at you a little (this happens a lot among Metalheads I know, what with all the arguments and such). I'm sorry if it came off as a bit personal, but we're generally an arrogant, spirited and stubborn lot
That said, I don't see how Powerslave or Piece of Mind are more melodic than Beast, at least to a degree that'd turn you off. Seventh Son? Yeah, I can see how that might be an issue ...*Splendid Goatatar by that cool kid Serpentine

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Speaking for myself, I apologize for not having put a . I was saying it in a light tone.
But what puzzles me, is that I easlity understand someone not listening too much melodic metal, or someone "hating" growl, and so on... what's strange, is someone liking Number... but not Piece of mind. The sound and the style don't differ so much, so, if you like the former, you should appreciate the latter. Imo.
Master is a masterpiece, but yeah, Lightning is far better.Last edited by Killer Angel; 2011-06-10 at 02:18 AM.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I love a lot of Maiden's material, but I put Somewhere In Time on when I was heading to work this morning and remembered why I haven't listened to it for ages. Powerslave has recently overtaken Seventh Son of a Seventh Son as my favourite Maiden album though, and Brave New World is easily the best thing they've put out since Bruce re-joined.
On the subject of Metallica, I think the first five albums are all great, and Ride The Lightening is definitely my favourite of theirs. I'm also one of the weird people who loves the S&M album, which a few of my diehard Metallica-fan friends absolutely hate. I'd rather listen to Anthrax's Amongst The Living though, it's a lot more fun, and I think has great songs from start to finish, whereas RTL has some good and some awesome tracks.
Right now I'm listening to Emperor's In The Nightside Eclipse. One of the finest black metal albums ever.i watched your heart turn black.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Don't get me wrong, I think Lightning is way better. Even the first one, possibly. But After Master, things took a sharp dive, from my point of view... and honestly, the only reason I like Number of the Beast at all is because of the nostalgia, I played it over and over in middle school. I didn't have any other Maiden, so I can hardly nostalgia over it now, can I?
Sabbath's better than all of 'em put together, though.Avatar by Kris on a Stick

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Apparently Seth Putnam of the infamous grindcore band A.C. has died.
...I don't really have any strong feelings about this. I just figured I'd share the metal-related news.

I may not be able to sit through more than three minutes of AxCx at a time, but I have a lot of respect for that man. Say what you will about Seth Putnam, but the dude had balls of steel. RIP.Avatar by Kris on a Stick

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
You may find this band interesting. I'm not sure it's as good as ITNE/Emperor/ATSR, but it's definitely high quality raw symphonic BM.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Just started listening to Lordi tonight. They're decent, and cheesy enough to be a lot of fun. Thoughts?

Step 2: Sell the goods for a higher amount than what you pay the workers.
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit!

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
So, a friend from college just released a CD with his band, Psychic Faith. What do the Playgrounders think?
Personally, I feel that they're a bit rough (especially the vocals), but musically they're pretty good and they've got potential.

Hey man, there's no accounting for taste. Just my opinion and I didn't mean to make any sort of judgment about your aesthetic values, just that song.
As a bit of an olive branch, you might find Ephel Duath to be an interesting listen. They're very jazzy.Wonder Woman (DC Girls in Sweaters Style) Avatar by Astrella.
